So, are you going to stay with Evernote? I paid for one more year (thru Dec 2024) but it's way too expensive so I'm not on the hunt for something different and to be able to export/import is a major factor.

I started out with Air Table a few years ago and quickly moved to Evernote. Found Evernote less cumbersome and easier to use. With Evernote you can google search, copy and add photos the exact same way as Air Table. That’s the only way I have ever done it. I have the Evernote app on my computer for easy use at home and on my phone which makes it easier not to duplicate purchases when I am in a paper crafting store. Love your content Justine. ❤

I watched a video by "It's me, JD" about AIRTABLE but, p e r m y n o t e s, entries all go into an "Airtable iCLOUD"!! I was sure I would N O T want to be accessing my phone's data plan while out shopping at craft stores, so I opted NOT to pursue that app. QUESTION: Did I misunderstand the info I THOUGHT I heard??

I was getting so frustrated that I kept purchasing stamp sets multiple times because I had so many that I couldn’t keep track of them all. I eventually came upon a forum discussion of ideas on organizing and inventorying your stamp sets where someone said she uses Evernote, and briefly described how it helped her to be organized. I looked into it and never looked back! I love Evernote! It helps me keep track of what I have, and also helps me locate particular images because of the tags I’ve created in the program. It’s wonderful! Nothing goes into my inventory now until I have entered it into my program.

Airtable lets you create checkboxes/buttons for things you use frequently (theme, location, type of stamp) which reduces typing time. Just click the field, customize field, edit field type. I need the spreadsheet format, personally for inventory tracking, but use Evernote to save and sort KZread videos by technique (watercolor, etc.) and purpose (group crafts, kids crafts, Easter).

I am just starting back into stamping & now die cutting after years of no crafting. As I started purchasing my supplies I did create an excel spreadsheet to inventory my supplies. That worked well for a basic start but I love the idea of having sample photos & being able to link videos to certain products. I also greatly appreciate that you mentioned having an inventory for insurance reasons. Having been through two natural disasters & having low expectations of insurance companies - having an inventory of any kind can only help. Very good video and I look forward to move away from my excel spreadsheet.

J is quite right that proving what u own and what u paid is essential in making a claim against your insurance carrier. BUT!! Please double check with your insurance company on coverage for crafting supplies. Each policy will have a cut off for coverage on your supplies and you may need to purchase a rider specifically to cover your stuff for a further price. My experience has been that riders can be reasonably priced but do not rely on your regular insurance to cover your supplies if you have an extensive collection without being sure.

I swear by Evernote. There is absolutely no way I could manage my stash without it. And it’s also great for the things you mentioned with inspiration photos and videos. Being able to capture videos and incorporate them straight into a specific product is probably my favorite feature. Not gonna lie, there was a learning curve, at least for me. But once I decided on paper how I wanted to organize the Notebooks, things moved more quickly. When I first downloaded the desktop version I thought what the heck am I getting myself into. I didn’t know squat about an inventory management system. By the time I finished my first vendor Notebook, it was a breeze. 😅 I couldn’t do any of this without Evernote, or it would be really really hard 😂

I know that recently you can add extensions in airtable, the free version limits you to one, but I do see the web clipper extensions is now available :D I'm kinda bias to airtable because I'm an old MS Access and Excel gal. (Access was the main programming thing back in the day for me). Airtable has a bit of a learning curve, and like you said EverNote lets you search actual pdfs and images. I'm learning so much more about airtable than I ever realized was possible. But I thank you for bringing this discussion back around :D Us crafters need something to keep track of our ever growing inventory :D

Once you’ve set up your database you can just pick from a list vs. having to type everything thing in every time. You can also add to lists on the fly. I'm still missing pertinent info regarding the functionality of each to make a decision. LIKE: 1) Is the data "in residence" on whatever device we use? Or does it go off into a cloud? And, if out in a cloud, do you have to USE YOUR PHONE'S DATA PKG. to ACCESS IT when you're in a store?? (2) CAN Airtable pull pictures off the net to add to an entry? Or, do we have to rely on our gizmo's photo capability? That's do-able if we're using a phone, or even an iPad, but it'll be far trickier to do with my laptop!! Questions like this boggle my mind!!

Air table. I never was able to get Evernote to do much for me and so I stopped. Not so with Airtable, for me. Note I only use the free versions. Perhaps I find Airtable easier because my work included a lot of excel and Airtable is more like it. You don’t have to type the descriptions, you can copy and paste into Airtable so I just do that from the product descriptions. Airtable does search from every cell so a search finds every time the word exists, not the photos but since I copy and paste the description I have everything. I love that I can add my own cards as a separate tab and link it to the products I used and I keep who I sent them to as i have another tab with family and friend addresses and birthdates. It’s like linking cells in excel. Yes I input once but then I just link to that entry and poof, it’s there. I’ve added cells of data as I’ve discovered I wanted to know something more and it’s easy to see which entries don’t have the data. I use the set up of a things I repeat like company so once I add the descriptor to the list I can just start to type and options narrow down for me to select from. I can export the information to my computer as a csv file if I wanted to or excel or google sheets. I can filter or sort on any column heading. Overall the best for how my head works

Just FYI - everything you described you do in AirTable can also be done in Evernote... Copy & paste, partial typing to fill in (tags), finding every instance of a word, adding cards made with linking to supplies, etc are also possible in Evernote. The verbage is often different and less like Excel so Evernote might be more of a learning curve. Someone used to working with a database (vs spreadsheet) will find Evernote more familiar. For me, the advantage of Evernote automatically finding sentiments in photos of stamps/stamp sets was too good to pass up.

I m using Airtable as that’s the one that works best for me. I’ve been adding all my stamps, stencils, dies, and embossing folders in one “file “. It is time consuming but I have added a location for each item as well as photos, description and listed all sentiments among other, things. That way, I can search for a particular description or sentiment, look at them in Airtable, pick which one I want to use and then find it quickly. I’ve loaded 370 items so far. It does take time, but it’s worth the effort! I have about 50 more items to add and then I can move onto other supplies and tools! Great video Justine; you really explained how each work in depth so that we can have an informed opinion. Thanks so much

It won't recognize fancy text (like script sentiments or those on a curve), so I type those in. I'm using the free version of Evernote to inventory my craft supplies and art supplies after I saw Ardyth's video (@ardyth). I didn't know about Airtable and learned a lot from this video! I do worry about its backup ability in the future but only because I have spent SO much time entering all of the details for my hundreds of stamp sets. Do you have any info about this for both databases? If I wanted to switch to Evernote do you know if it's possible to copy and paste my stamp set info from Airtable to Evernote? I believe if you do the web search like Justine showed, it uploads the image itself to your database record. I know on my Airtable databases, I have photos of products that have been discontinued & are no longer on whatever site I got the photo from. But the photo for each is still in the corresponding record where I put it. Also (as a side note), if you can't find a photo online, say for a stamp or stamp set, you can always upload one that you take. Or you can scan the stamp set cover sheet, stamped image, etc., & upload that. I've had to do that on older products I have. Hope this helps! :)

It's hard to say to be honest. Color my Life is genius from the idea of it. In my opinion though, the scanning option is it's best feature and that it's made for crafters specifically. BUT, in order for the scanning tool to work, they rely on companies to supply the barcodes and companies don't do that often. Due to that, I stopped using it because it became a handful to manually put everything in. And the fact that there isn't a free version for me to try out (years after my initial experience) made the difference in me choosing Evernote/Airtable.

Air table is on a browser actually. You don’t need an iPhone. It has nothing to do with Apple. The only thing is Airtable no longer has the search image feature. That was taken away a couple months ago. I stopped using Color my life because the barcode feature was the reason I wanted it. I found at that time that not enough bar codes were scannable. It replies on companies to keep their bar codes up to date with color my life and very few did at the time. I wanted to go back and try it while doing this video but there was no free trial.
