I’ve been using August Bradley’s system in Notion since 2000. I love how Notion connects my areas of focus, goals, tasks, routines, learning, media I have collected, my whole life, organized and easy to find when I need it. It also keeps me focused, pushing the needle forward, and staying on track. I can build a database for anything and filter it however I want to only see what I want to see. So far I have not found anything better than Notion for all of this organization and it keeps getting better and better every day.

This was quite inspiring. I love how you keep desk setups. It is a good reminder that I could be keeping all kinds of inspirational ideas ranging from desks to closet organization.

That's the beauty of digital notes. You can keep all sorts of things in there.

Carl, I love all this information that you have here on all the beautiful ways to manage information and all of this deeper self-reflection. Honestly, though, I don't have the time for it. Between two kids, sports, family outings, other family commitments, a business to run with 35 employees, two dogs, my wife, trying to stay connected with friends, yard work, trying to run 5k a week and strength train, the never-ending question of “what's for dinner?”, and about a billion other things, where can I find the time? Indeed, where is the time in life for it? Oh, and my father passed away last December, and my father-in-law as well two weeks ago. We have inherited multiple properties that are four hours round trip from us. What's the five-minute breakdown to move on to tomorrow?

Hi Brian, sorry to hear about your father and father-in-law. I hope you and your family are okay. Sometimes, it's the very things we think we don't have time for that we need time for. With everything going on in your life right now, the choice is going to be between putting out fires or getting control of them. Hi Brian, that's sad to read and I feel for you and your family bereavements. When my Mum passed away at the end of December 2022 I relied on Evernote to keep track of all the tasks I needed to do for her as well as planning to move house. I found being able to rely on Evernote invaluable as I had so much else on my mind coupled with the inevitable grief that was a background distraction to everything I did in 2023. My Evernote setup wasn't as great as Carl's however it served me well. Creating the structure for my notes and hyperlinking to task trackers kept my mind occupied and that's what I needed at the time. Also, having that structure / source of truth gave me one less thing to worry about. I can see that you have far more commitments and obligations than I have ever had and have every respect for how you manage to keep on top of it all. I know I was lucky that I had recently retired and could find the time to create my Evernote resource. I wish you well for 2024.

PARA works very well for me. I try not to have more than 2 layers, I hate those deeply nested notes and the click orgy to open a note^^

Great info, as always, Carl! I just switched from Evernote to Apple Notes, and one of the perks is that you can build multiple layered stacks (which also creates the danger of building too deep) in Apple Notes.

Ooh, as long as you don't go beyond the three levels of hierarchy, it should not become too overwhelming. In my experience beyond three and you create a monster.

@@Carl_Pullein Absolutely! It is a nice-to-have feature but needs to be used sparsely. The danger of building too deep, too many layers, is that one can go down a rabbit hole to overcomplicating things!!

Hello Carl, thanks for the helpful video: I still have a question. How do you archive a project notebook? You can't move it to an archive 2024 notebook. Do you dissolve the project notebook and move the notes individually?

Nope. I don't believe what I read in other media. I watch what Bending Spoons are doing, and their long-term philosophy, and I'm 100% on board. (You don't pay $80 million to close or destroy something)

There is one KZreadr I had to stop following because of the zeal and negative angle he always displayed when delivering an Evernote story. I believe he did this because he wanted to be the go-to for another new shiny app. I stopped watching and understood his negativity for what it was. Evernote serves my needs, and I don't believe it's going anywhere contrary to what other influencers are trying to sell you.

@@meeluanistyn1644@meeluanistyn1644 the only folder I showed is my From The Desk Of folder. In the course, I explained in more detail my James Bond folder and how I utilise tags to manage it. This was much more of a very brief overview.

Man... I thought MY resources and archive folders were full!!
