    I think the comment you made about routines not moving your life forward is key. I've always thought of them as treading water. You have to do them or you drown, but they won't by themselves save you (or move you forward, or get you to a destination). Good Video.

    Great clarification. The reasoning behind what to do is needed to do it. Without it, we won't commit to it.

    Awesome idea to switch the Routines view to the board. I forgot about that option! Thank you.

    I also use Apple Reminders for my routines with a similar setup. I do however, set up Areas of Focus in Todoist in this format. This has been very helpful to stay on track and removes the overwhelm.

    I really appreciate this video. Something I've struggled with is since I'm not very good with simple routines at the moment (doing laundry daily or washing the dishes, wiping down the counters, etc.) I have all of those habits in ToDoIst but they are overwhelming the number of tasks in ToDoIst. I've been thinking about removing some. maybe I should keep a list in my note taking application and slowly add them in to build the routines.

    The goal with routines is to turn them into habits as quickly as possible. Doing the dishes, for instance, can be triggered by doing it as soon as you finish a meal or a drink. Similarly, when you wake up in the morning, before leaving the bedroom, you make your bed.

    I'm going to implement this in Apple Reminders. Was thinking of testing in Microsoft To Do, but since I have all Apple devices, I think it would be more useful and reliable in Reminders.

    It works brilliantly in Reminders because of its built-in system support.

    Hi Carl, I hit a 300 task limit in my routines project in Todoist and i was curious if you have ever hit that limitation yourself and if so how best to handle it? Thank you

  • @Carl_Pullein

    Hi Scott, WOW! I've never got close. The solution, would be to review your routines folder and move out any routines you no longer need reminders. Alternatively, you could create sub folders within your routines folder for daily, weekly, monthly. Although I think the first solution would serve you better.

    Carl, If I understand correctly, routines are basically habits (or should become habits)? All other tasks belong to an area of focus?

  • @Carl_Pullein

    @Carl_Pullein

    Жыл бұрын

    Sort of. All "other" tasks may not be areas of focus. Some just need doing once.

    every or every! ? What do you prefer for Routine or Recurring? (I'm not concerned about Karma.... but....)

  • @Carl_Pullein

    @Carl_Pullein

    I don't think I've ever used "every!" I prefer to complete the task when it's next due.

    I see in "This Week" the recurring areas of focus - are these just "routines" that populate into "This Week" and is it a special filter?

    No. Those are the important tasks that keep me moving forward on my goals and projects. It's a kind of "repetition is the mother of mastery" folder. Always done, never ignored.
