Other than the frame, the components, such as the groupset and wheelset, play a significant role in weight. I have the 2023 Orbea Orca M21eTeam PWR size 51 with the groupset of SRAM Force AXS eTap and changed the standard wheelset to Princeton 6560 with 25mm GP5000 wheel; I still managed to get the weight of 8,5kg, and that included Garmin power meter pedal.

Well, I have the same 2023 Orbea with mechanical Ultegra and swapped out wheelset with Hunt Aerodynamicist 44mm wheels in a 55cm and the weight with pedals, cages and GPS mount weighs in at 8.4kgs. Not too shabby for not really trying to get weight down other than new wheels. My 2011 Specialized SL3 with mechanical ultegra and 50mm carbon rims weighs in under 7.4 kg without even trying. It would cost me $2-3k more to drop another lb on my Orca but at end of the day, any 18lb bike is a "no excuse" bike especially with disc brakes.

What a messy way to compare - Even the Frame Sizes were different - Nothing was same between the 2 bikes, except that they were Orbea Orcas !! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂🤣

Not ideal I know, but working with what I had and it certainly shows that the new bike design is definitely lighter than the previous version.

I don't know tbh. From a scientific perspective I obviously agree but from a customer's perspective the content was mostly what I was looking for. - it compares stuff I'm actually looking to purchase, not the top of the line - it provides weight information for the entry-level bikes, which you typically don't read on Orbea's website. Telling me the 10k€ version weights 6.7Kg doesn't actually help me decide on what 3.5K€ bike may weight. - it provides indication about the bike potential. I've ordered the M30i i.o the M35i for budget reason but I'm interested in the bike's potential if I upgraded the wheels and tires. If the bike without wheels, tubes & tyres weights 5.1, looking at the video I know the M30i has the potential to be a 7.3Kg. This is, if a few years from now I want to treat myself with some mid/high-range wheels + tubeless top-of-the range tires (like the DT swiss 1600 + schwalbe one TLE or the continental GP 5000STR) - the groupset are not the same but both bikes are priced at similar pricing. It's apples to oranges but where the price per kilo is the same and your budget is the driving factor. - I'm actually in the situation where my bike shop offers me both and I have to decide. I eventually went with the M30i. - about the size, I agree it would have been better to compare both at the same size but I assume two sizes vary by a few 10s of grams. Not more.

@@cheers1905 Bullshit. The quite normal weight of the disc brakes bikes with 105 groupset is about 8.5kg - it's nothing unique. The old M30 on Ultegra 9.02kg or new M30 on 105 8.83 is far too much.

Both terribly heavy...
