Thank you for updating us. I'm so glad to hear Blackpool Zoo was finally forthcoming with information that you could share with your viewers. It teaches us to not always assume the worst in a zoo or a first-time orangutan mom when we don't have all of the facts. I pray that Jarang's surgery is successful so he can start to hit all of his milestones. What a resilient little boy! And what a great mom Jarang is for not rejecting him for having an issue as primates are known to do. Your video warms my heart..such a sweet video.

Jingga and Jarang look so sad. I hope Jarangs surgery is successful and that the little guy recovers quickly and easily. I think mama knows something is up just by her demeanor. Intelligent and sweet ❤.

@@SHAWNEESKYWALKER This baby was a year old on June 14th and still does not walk. He has had a terribly enlarged groin for some time but even before the groin issue he appeared to have some sort of delay. He did not cling to mama's body and mama didn't hol him close to her like orangatans do. Apparently he is scheduled to have surgery for a hernia and this is supposed to address these issues.

Happy birthday, lil Buddy! You are a fighter, and we are all so grateful for that. So you have surgery coming up to make your life better. Your Mommy will be able to hold you up to her after that. You fight to get all the strength you need to get back to us after the surgery like you have this 1st year of your life. Cause it's only going to get better after this. By age 2, you will be all over the place. You will be leaving your Momma behind this time. Have a happy day. We are all praying for you!!

I think he’s done with lying around on his back. I’m really hoping the surgery will help him.

I hope Jarang does well during the surgery. I would love to see how they adapt human medical practice to help Jarang catch up in development.

I was told by staff that that he and Jingga had been outside briefly but I have never seen it myself. It will be amazing to see him outdoors. 🥰

Happy Birthday handsome boy! 🎉🎂 It's great we have some answers and he has some hope for a more normal life. I've been wondering if he would have survived to his first birthday if he's been born in the wild. Orang behaviors are so different in zoos and sanctuaries. I came across an old video that an older, blind, wild orangutan was brought into a sanctuary where an older, blind, wild male knocked her up. I don't think yhe staff thought she could get pregnant so no real precautions were taken. She gave birth to a healthy boy AND girl. She was raiising them well, nirding them both. After at least a year (I reallydon'trememberthe exact time frame), she had cataract surgery. After she recovered, she and her babies were taken for release back into to the wild. She immediately abandoned the boy. I don't believe she had showed favoritism until then. After waiting a few days to see if she'd come back for her son, the staff took him back to the sanctuary. He wasn't anywhere close to being able to survive on his own. While certainly not a newborn, he was only a few years old at the most. By now he might be on his own and back in the jungle. The point is, until the moment she left him, no one had any idea that she would. To me, it shows a level of understanding about physical and food security I don't think most people ever really thought about. So maybe Jingga would have walked away when Jarang started showing signs of limitations. Which while completely understandable, that would have been sad. Each orangutan is vital to the survival of the species. I look forward to seeing how the surgery improves his life and possibly his development. Hopefully he'll be able to be a dad down the road himself. Regardless, his journey and his mom's in so full of hope.
