Dear Mr.Ellison, I have been following Oracle's growth and I have admired / followed your work for year's. I belive Oracle to be the best software solution in the world period. On this note, I think that with the correct equation's Oracle could compete and very well over take AWS. I have conducted an social experiment and I have found that the majority of end user lean toward AWS due to three exact causes. 1. AWS is Fast, Cheap and Easy. 2. AWS is super super super simple. 3. AWS has a 24 instant support line for there product. 1. I belive that if you took Oracle and refined the software into a more simple version just for cloud computing, something a lot more user friendly, then you would see a very large increase in sales. Worrie about the more comlex systems later in the contract. 2. Offer the best software customer service in the world. 3. Make the Cloud package readly available. No phone calls, no emails, and simple to get started / check out. I belive that the advantages to Oracle are in it's complexities, how ever for a first time user it is to much at first sight. So if you started with a very simple package that is super user friendly, then I belive you would see a significant increase in sales. Eventually, end users are going to reqest some of the more complexe features, so if you were to offer the features in packages this would be a great.

As a CEO, I understand Larry's sentiment and statement to stay positive and potential to use Oracle's years of experience in the databases space. But when the rubber meets the road, when new technologies are rolled out by Oracle, they are so buggy. Think about their cloud implementation for applications, BI in the Cloud for example. I am not sure if customers are as satisfied as they were promised. Customer Support is terrible. Oracle databases experience is totally different story though.

I have been supporting Oracle databases last 13 years and I have seen things changing over time. Yes , Oracle was the best solution some 15 years back till last 7 years back. But as the open source RDBMS databases like Mariadb, Postgres, MySQL matured, the features that applications needed are very much there in these and with the advent of microservice architecture , there is no more need of monolithic solutions like Oracle. Also, pricing model of Oracle will cost a lot to run so many instances. All in all Oracle might still be the best RDBMS software but the market has alternatives with way better price points.

And the good old days of Oracle are long gone, only the people in retirement homes use an Oracle RDBMS now. All the latest tech's moved to No-SQLs these days & even their pride & joy, Java, which Oracle got their grubby mitts on by their acquisition of Sun, is on the decline. New installations of Oracle RDBMS must be really down, which is probably why Larry's on TV peddling his ol' wares. Oracle would've been swallowed up by any of the "biggies" by now, only thing is that nobody's interested as all Oracle has is "legacy" tech ! They might as well be selling IBM PCs - beige ones at that ! :)

Well with a background on all fronts - SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, AWS - I truly agree with every word Larry says. Oracle DB has great engineering behind it. The only problem of using it today in any new architecture is what Oracle did to Java and all other services - "Corporate Greed". Otherwise, I would still be biasing most of our new global SaaS on this solid database. And your competition with AWS is so out of league. So no, it is not a database or technical choice anymore, Oracle just made us tech guys and customers hate them for their Java, licensing strategy & army of lawyers. What are we left with? AWS Aurora & PostgreSQL unfortunately, although we know they are nowhere as advanced as the core OracleDB. Sorry Larry, being the best tech guy doesn't help if people doesn't trust in your company. This has always been the true reason why Oracle has no future as of today.

so he wants oracle cloud to be as "easy to use as amazon but secure" , well aws is as secure as you make it and there are plenty of tools to ensure that it is. The question is though who is going to use a oracle cloud database system that is located separately from the other tiers of the application architecture. You instantly add in additional problems such as connection latency issue and , ironically, additional security concerns when you have to try to connect two separate cloud infrastructures. Technically it is possible to address those issues but it without a doubt introduces additional complexity, work / admin and costs. Only Google and Microsoft currently have any chance of taking a more significant piece of the cloud business from Amazon and they are far behind still at this stage.

It is not a click and done solution for complex database, or who use Oracle with COTS products as this should be differed to vendors, but those who had built in-house app, but realize that commercialized technologies no longer are only option, docs.aws.amazon.com/dms/index.html#lang/en_us
