Optimizing Immune Health: How Much Vitamin C Do You Need?

Ғылым және технология

Vitamin C is incredibly important to the immune system, but how much do we need to reap its benefits? In this Linus Pauling Day webinar, we will explore vitamin C requirements with Dr. Anitra Carr from the University of Otago Christchurch. Gain insights into how much vitamin C is optimal for immune health and more.
This webinar is part of the Linus Pauling Institute's 2023 Webinar Series.

    There was a shortage of intravenous Vitamin C in the U.S. in 2020. It was mostly going to hospitals which had priority, and likely used to treat COVID 19 patients. This fact did not get publicity, although I confirmed it did happen.

    I got rid of covid at the very start of it with oral vit c 24 grams the first day, declining every day until the 3rd day at 12 gr and I was no longer feeling sick, and I've not stopped taking it ever since, though the amount is much less. Nothing quite like trying it, documenting it, experiencing recovery to make it a part of life. One of my better choices.

    Yes, uncooked meat can prevent scurvy, but is destroyed if heated. Most people do not eat raw or very rare beef, so the contribution to vitamin C in the body is small compared to fresh fruits and vegetables.

I pray it is reducing my CAC.

    @alanlierz3745 Alan, real, nice to hear from you! Yes, that's sort of the way I think C has worked for me. My wife has RA and is on Methotrexate which is an immune suppressant, so naturally, she picks up stuff constantly while I'm highly resistant and haven't noticed a thing even her cold which lasted over 3 weeks the worst I've seen her go through in 20 years. I wasn't even touched. The highest daily divided dose I've done so far has been 40 grams. I have heard of even 80 grams. If I got sick, I would use Liposomal vitamin C as it's fat soluble, and as Levy says, many times more absorbable than ascorbic acid powder, but it is expensive I store 24 grams in the fridge. OK, to go through the whole bottle in a day. If I had to. I hope your bowel tolerance is working out well. My 15 gram early evening dose is well tolerated because of my physical activity reduction. The guy that mentioned this was so correct 👏 Alan, the only thing that can stop the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol as Dr. Thomas Levy cardiologist points out that toxicity is in the body, especially coming from dental toxicity. As Levy says, you could have a river of C and not make in head way fighting heart disease. What he has found is bacteria from implants and root canals that you can be completely asymptomatic to contribute to heart disease. I have one of each. I heard from a dentist that K2-MK7 kills more than 95 % of that bad bacteria, so I'm on high dose K2-MK7 with D3. Proper normal dosing according to Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue author of " K2 and the Calcium Paradox " her latest recommendation was 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. K2-MK7 is not toxic, so you can take more K2-MK7. I maintain my D3 level at 60ng/dl My current K2-MK7 dosing is 2400mcg of K2-MK7 with 5000i.u of D3 summer and 10,000i.u winter. Don't use mouthwash with taking K2-MK7 as it destroys the effectiveness of K2-MK7. You'll see D3 and K2-MK7 combo bottles, but the doses are wrong. Most K2-MK7 is sold in 100-200mcg. I use 600mcg caps from "Nutrizing " off of Amazon. If you have any gum disease, it will eventually clear as mine did, but it took a while. But I'm confident that it's the right thing to do, and of course, it clears calcium out of the arteries as well as high dose vitamin C. If you're using K2-MK7 with D3, make sure you're using at least Dr. Kate's recommendation as she pointed out too much D3 will overrun K2-MK7, leaving calcium deposits the very thing we're fighting. Best of luck, Alan, and it sounds like you're very consistent with it, which is very important! As Linus Pauling said, "Never miss a day"

    I make liposomal vitamin C using sunflower lecithin and powdered vitamin C, and take it several times through the day - and eat fresh fruits and veggies throughout the year. For context, gorillas (who also lack the love enzyme necessary for synthesis) get ~ 4000 mg in their daily diet; and cows and goats make 11,000-13,000 mg daily - and more when under stress, plus being some in their diets!

    @binathere2574 While I have had a person or two ridicu ascorbic acid either for its nutrient content or its chemical weakness, I found they either did not go to an MD for wellness checks even just use the data from them or they felt there was no real value in vitamin C ascorbic alone. Well, after 3 yrs now, I have had nothing but health phenomenal, improving everything from skin and eyes to the reversal of my heart disease. I think one of the best books I have yet read on ascorbic acid is Dr. Thomas Levy's book "Curing the Incurable " 1200 medical references in it some of which will bring you to tears as it did Levy and myself after hearing about research that was withheld from the public. In small quantities, it is almost useless, but in large quantities, miraculous.

    I would like to see more evidence supporting an "optimal" dose. The study cited in this talk for an RDA was on 7 hospitalized males. It's not clear to me that we can know what an optimal amount is based on serum levels alone. Bowel tolerance seems to be a much higher dose than maximized serum levels.

  • @thelinuspaulinginstitute

    @thelinuspaulinginstitute

    Yes, so would we! Optimal dose is very hard to study. However, it is important to study both minimum requirements (for public health information) as well as search for doses that influence other health outcomes.
