An optical fibre is a glass fibre used to transmit light and digital information over long distances. It has three main parts : core, cladding and coating. When a light ray strikes one end of an optical fibre at a smaller angle of incidence the light ray will refract through the core. The refracted ray will strike the core cladding interface at an angle greater than the core cladding's critical angle, therefore the light ray undergoes total internal reflection and is reflected back to the core as BC. It transmits light and digital information by repeated total internal reflection.
