I really DID do an early interview with Oprah Winfrey, but it had a slightly different vibe than what's depicted in my biopic WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story.

Is he more entertaining than Alice Cooper? Because that was the $#!+... Yes I think Al is too. Talked to him on the phone once when he was at a local radio station, WHCN Hartford, I think in 1993. One of the morning guys ( a despicable man, I know because I interned there from time to time) asked me what I would do if I was alone in a room with Al. I said something shocking (something I really wouldn't have done as Al is married, I was engaged, and I'm not a slut). The studio exploded, I got hung up on, no one could talk or breathe because of shock/laughter. I was told to call back, and I did. Had a nice conversation with Al. The station ran it's daily promo using the clip, several times, until they were told to stop by management...

I could have EASILY been one of those kids in the audience when this aired. I was about that old at that time. But you know something, it never dawned on me how 'Kid-Safe' Weird Al was ( And still is today ). When I was a kid, Weird Al was a 'Living Cartoon' character to me. A lot of Aussies love Weird Al, especially those of us who were teenagers in the mid 1980's and followed his musical parody trend ("Eat It" and numerous other songs after it). He can be funny and clever without being rude - I for one like him as an artist and can appreciate the effort he puts into the work he does. THAT is partly why I subbed to his channel here. 😎 👍

Oprah will never forget the day she was honored to be in the presence of the legend himself.
Al is an international treasure.

This really warms my heart. I really enjoyed seeing this interview. I was 8 when this aired, so, if I saw it, I wouldn't have paid attention to it, let alone care about it. I'm a big Weird Al fan, and I think Oprah is one of the best interviewers that ever existed. I'm not much of a drama fan, but she knows how to ask questions without being biased. And still leaving it up to the audience to decide for themselves. For the majority, anyway. This was fun.
