Oppenheimer is Worse Than Dunkirk Film REVIEW/RANT

This forgettable slog is getting Oscar buzz, why? Because Nolan has his name on it.

It's not about the action. Lol Fuckin' hell. It's so easy to understand and it's actually good. The thing about this movie is you have to be able to UNDERSTAND. If you're waiting for some action, then you're missing the point. This was all about how Oppenheimer saw things, it's about his perspective. The detonation of the bomb is not what the movie is trying to highlight. It's about how they got there to that moment, and the consequences of what they did after. It's not titled "The Atomic Bomb" for a reason because it wasn't all about that. You said you're not gonna rewatch it. I think you should because you totally missed the point. LOL!!! He's did not make a movie about the Atomic Bomb. He made a movie about Oppenheimer. Simple-minded people. LOL!!!

I can never tell if these types of videos are genuine, but either way, I always watch them. If you were looking for a WWII movie with action, this is obviously not the one because it’s about Oppenheimer. He never saw combat and wasn’t in Japan when the bombs dropped. What makes the movie interesting is that despite this, he profoundly shaped history. Or if you’re only interested in his time directing Los Alamos, that’s understandable, but a movie about that is not a movie about Oppenheimer. The whole thesis of the movie (spelled out in the very beginning) was that he was an “American Prometheus.” He created the most destructive weapon in all of human history solely for the benefit of his country, and in return, we destroyed him. The movie adeptly shows how one man’s pursuit of revenge, coupled with the government’s fear of Oppenheimer’s ability to interfere with their atomic agendas, initiated the complete obliteration of his authority and respect. This was all possible due to the paranoia taking place during the McCarthy era. The last third of the movie is so much more than “is he a communist or not.” I most definitely did not find it boring. Each conversation is like a chess match, each character super complex, and discussion involving nuclear weapons should never really be boring. I could keep going, but you get it. Overall, you have a pretty bad take.

It’s one of the best films by Christopher nolan. I agree its not his best or the best film ever. But if you find this movie boring or need action its just people who cant really be bothered watching something about a man who created the most dangerous weapon on earth. The cinematography, sound, music, acting and visuals (practical effects) makes this movie amazing and especially in IMAX, apart from these comments and you, no one has said anything like this. And the bomb scene isn’t supposed to be a big thing, it is a part of it that Oppenheimer realises what he has done. And maybe no one cares but this movie is the reason why we should. In a press of a button the world could end. Some things here i cant be bothered typing bc it would be to much but its just wrong facts. And btw if you’re a true Nolan fan which you not obviously, he doesn’t like cgi and never uses it. He cant use the bomb because of radiation. He would hurt and make him and everyone else sick. Oppenheimer is fantastic. Maybe you just like short, action movies and so do i, but he does know how to spend his money and i can sit through this masterpiece. All the awards, and 90% people agree with me. The music was great, your being disrespectful and dont know true cinema.

The movie was too nuanced for you. The movie doesn't suffer because they didn't show them drop the bomb, it's better because of it. "With all due respect Oppy, we'll take it from here." "Do you think Japan cares who built the bomb? No, they care who dropped it. You didn't drop the bomb, I did." He asked Groves is he could go with him to Washington, and Groves replied, "what for" The movie is packed with action, but it's in the dialogue. The world was never going to be the same because of what they were doing. It's very layered, almost two movies in one. There is all the bomb and war stuff, then there is the whole red scare McCarthyism aspect to it. If you can't be moved to feel something by placing yourself as a fly on the wall, I can understand if you don't like it, but it is one of the best films I've ever seen.

I actually liked Dunkirk, did have a lot of boring moments in it though, the 2019 film 1917 was way better imo. I’m not sure how historically accurate either of those movies are though. But the reason I liked 1917 so much is because of how it was shot, like, the whole movie is done in a way that looks like one full take from a single man’s perspective. Hacksaw Ridge had some problems too but that was also a very interesting movie. And I just did not care about 12 Strong. But it’s so hard to trust most modern movies being good these days, especially historical war movies. Band of Brothers will always be the greatest war miniseries of all time. And I feel like I’ve done a huge disservice to Saving Private Ryan by not watching it yet. I think I’ll pass on Oppenheimer.

"wasted money on actors" ... this was a choice to help the audience understand who the characters are in a story with a lot of them. Instead of trying to follow who David L. Hill is, you can just realize that's Rami Malek. Considering the movie was immensely profitable it certainly paid off. There's also tons of action in the movie. You just need to shift your mentality that the action is a battle of wills, ideology, and grand policy decisions that have consequences for all human life. The Truman comment is also really bizarre. There are several characters in this movie that are worthy of their own movie. Oppenheimer absolutely was important enough for one of them.

I wanna keep this respectful and such. So when I ask what in your opinion made Dunkirk a bad movie or worse than Oppenheimer, would you want to explain it? Oppenheimer was made on the story of how he and his team managed to create the atom bomb, it's not gonna have any action. However, I won't defend Oppenheimer anymore, as personally it isn't my type of movie. I got pretty bored in the first 3 minutes so I just went to watch Hacksaw Ridge instead. But for me personally, I'm big on history. Love history. Oppenheimer, while boring for me, was a history film on how he made the atom bomb. Dunkirk to me was great, I loved it. From the music, to the sound design, to the characters, I just liked the movie. Action wise, I like it. It wasn't much, but the time between the action keeps you invested when the next bit happened and in between I found myself pretty interested. Maybe you wanted Dunkirk to be about how they got to Dunkirk? Such as the French and Brits entering Belgium to meet the Germans and as they're slowly pushed back, the last 30 minutes of the film is them at Dunkirk attempting to escape?

  • @YourVideoEssaysSuck

    @YourVideoEssaysSuck

    4 ай бұрын

With Dunkirk I wanted something more true to life. A 1 to 1 recreation of the evacuation. And right from the beginning of the film you see the main character run through the town and the town literally has no damage. That town was pretty much rubble in real life. So instantly I’m thinking why did Nolan cut corners here? And also there was little to no character work in Dunkirk to get you attached to the characters. It’s just a bunch of random people going through Dunkirk, why? Why not focus on one character. The loses focus because of that. But i still think it’s better than Oppenheimer because Oppenheimer is such a snooze fest and Nolan focuses on the least interesting parts. But that’s just me. And yes the sound and look of every Nolan film is outstanding

But I re-watched it not too long ago and man is it good. Minus the leaps in logic that come with most cbms. It’s an incredible film with incredible themes. I was also impressed with how much was in the movie. They managed to fit in a lot of stuff into that film and it was only two hours and 15 minutes. I was expecting to be bored with it before rewatch, but it’s one of the most exciting cbms and probably still the best. There’s really no excuse for directors to make their movies three hours long if the dark Knight can fit all that content into one film and make it work.

Fantastic review, I fully agree with you. To be honest I think the best working popular director is fincher. If you haven’t seen his recent film ‘the killer I highly recommend it. It’s not original, definitely doesn’t reinvent the wheel but incredibly entertaining and insightful. Also not long, very lean and mean film. I think a lot of directors sometimes just want to do something different and end up doing something worse. I feel Nolan did this with rises. In the dark Knight, people reacted positively to the joker’s crazy plans and all the crazy events. So what does Nolan do in rises?; he goes overboard with the epicness. Big bomb is going to blow up the city and there’s gonna be an all out lord of the rings style war between cops and criminals. Instead of something better like Batman and Gordon dealing with the guilt of what they did and a villain like Riddler trying to expose it for his agenda.( just for example).

I agree this is my least favorite of his films. Overall was very disappointed when leaving the theatre. The editing was abrasive and exhausting, the bomb scene itself had so much build up to be such a dud of a scene. And then the hour long fallout/communism subplot just dragged on and just didn’t feel necessary to the story. I understand he was basing it off of a book about Oppenheimer, but I thought he’d take some creative liberties with it to give it his classic Nolan touch. The man knows how to structure compelling stories, I don’t know how he made this story so uninteresting. I agree the Truman scene stole the show. Oldman’s few minutes on screen stuck with me more than the 1-2 hours Downey was given. I’m shocked it won as many awards as it did (but also not really, as it’s hype has just been out of control). Murphy was great, probably deserved his win, most of the other wins I don’t think were deserved.

Oscars like to do the “sorry we didn’t give you awards sooner” to people like Nolan. Scorsese is probably gonna be next. It’s really not about what the best film is. Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you for saying the bomb part, I thought I was the only one. That scene man, I almost cracked up. Was just such a shit scene. Couldn't even take in the explosion, too many cuts and it just looked shit. And yes it was propaganda big surprise

My friend was praising the movie with no end. Great cast and great premise, sure. But Openheimer is the only movie i had to sleep during it. I'm surprised it got so many oscars. Possibly, the bar is low that it has nothing much to compete with. Maybe the best Holywood actors and directors are occupied to do Ukraine and Israel propaganda or something.

It was the most overrated boring ass movie I’ve seen in a long time! The performances didn’t live up to the Oscar hype. It was confusing and way too long although the visuals were awesome. Matt Damon overacted in his role so much so it bordered on being comedic. Why was Emily Blunt nominated for an Oscar? I love her as an actress but she sure could have phoned that performance in. Movie was far too busy and needed more focus in my opinion.

Oscars are all about which studio spent the most money promoting the movie for the Oscars. Has nothing to do with what’s the best picture. I know plenty of people that fell asleep in this movie.
