Opium Eyes: The glazed and distanced stare of someone evading the present and the future. Disengagement is the safest retreat for the alienated. Sparked by a former work colleague that appeared to be stoned all the time, she wasn’t, it was just her natural state, but from the poppy fields of Panta to Thomas de Quincy and on to Wild Palms and Dune the escape to an artificial reality overtook the ‘real’ world in importance. This one has always been quick, we went at it for pace and shaved 20 seconds off in the studio. We kept it that fast.
