😱Song: I wake up in a dark room, with adrenaline causing my body to shake. It takes me a few minutes to realise where I am and that I'm okay. I look to my phone, on my bedside table, to check the time - 12:11am. The brightness hurts my eyes, so I wince and plonk back down onto the bed. It's not the first nightmare I had that month and there was no way I was going to be able to go back to sleep for a few hours yet. So why not write a song? I figured I wasn't sleeping anyway. This was the night I wrote Nightmares. I later find out that I am diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and that's why I have so many nightmares where my dreams should be. I understand that at 23 having PTSD is an abnomily, but my life up till now has been quite the journey.
😱About The Video: I think what's different about this video in compared to the other chapters of my Zone Out story, is that there's sort of no resolve. Nothing comes around at the end to fix things or save the day, there's no escaping. And I think that's an important part of Trauma to represent. Sometimes traumatic things happen that impact us greatly & we can't fix them, there's no happy ending, we just got to learn to cope, live with it & hopefully write our own happy ending later on once healed. To shoot in the house, I hired an Air BNB & the owner generously granted us permission to film! Each character is someone from my past who caused me Trauma but adapted into their own surreal monster inspired from my real life Nightmares. I've always been a massive fan of the horror genre and want to either make or be apart of a horror movie, this is the closest I've come so far to doing that. This video was a lot harder to make both emotionally as it is about my childhood trauma & technically due to the video effects I was after. I couldn't of asked for a better team to execute it.
