mikael is by far the most underrated metal musician of all time... it's not even close... dave mustaine and jon petrucci and the guys from metallica get their just dues, but this guy may be on a level of his own... not that it's a better level, it's just so fucking different and unique... just a special dude... soulful, melodic, technical, rhythmic genius... unbelievable talent... totally one of a kind... jeff waters is also underrated, but there's no comparison to this guy... everything opeth has ever put out is genius

I have to admit that Opeth doesn't have a SINGLE song that is "ok I guess", everything is at least "wow good song" to "ok I need to stop wearing pants when listening to these gods"

And this guy is humble as fuck. He said in an interviewed that he considers that not a single Opeth record is a masterpiece (what a joke), and everytime he plays something he ripped off (intro of Benighted, Ending Credits, etc) he mentions it.

The best part about Opeth is that it is impossible to lock them up in any particular genre. They (meaning Mikael) will break the rule over and over again and I love them for that...

i dont know what everyone's whining about. Mikael sounds as good as ever. He's just too quiet in the mix, which is the sound engineer's fault, not his.

Well, the TV and video people never really know how to mix a metal show. Keyboards are also too loud. But i actually think he doesn´t want to fuck up his singing voice, so he growls quieter than he sings.

This live obviously didn't get to be mixed and mastered before uploading. All live concert would be sound like this if you upload straight from live footage. Mixing for audience and for live broadcast need to be in different mixers if you want good quality sound. This is obviously for live audience

they're still phenomenal live...saw them in poland a few years back. I was right at the front down the middle and the sound was incredible

+Soufiane Artwood It does. It was always pretty bad, but in the last two years they were going out of their way to suck even harder, soundwise speaking. It´s the by far worst festival I ever been to if you want to listen to bands and not be just getting drunk at the campground. The Sound department is mediocre at best and that only If you are lucky.

Fredrik Akesson will always be one of my favorite guitar players. I started following him since his days with Arch Enemy. The dude has such a unique style of shredding. Very melodic.

These guys are awesome. Never got into Opeth until recently. So much diversity. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

The ending of Deliverance is one of the greatest endings of a metal song ever.

Sound quality experts obviously don't like open air festivals...shit happens. This is the largest metal fest in the world and to be there is absolutely a metal head's goal. Should be on everyone's bucket list.

+GuildBankLooter The number of amps would make no difference for the crowd whatsoever, what you hear when you see a concert is generally a single speaker of a single cabinet mic'd up and sent to the PA. A lot of the time it's even an amp you don't see, but an "isolated" cab backstage. So I'm afraid any mixing or volume issues hearing a specific instrument etc. would be down to the sound engineer

So wish I could have been there. went to Wacken in 2009 but Opeth weren't performing :( I so badly wish they'd come to South Africa! If I had been there last year, 1:15:02 is the exact point at which I would have lost myself completely and died of euphoria a few short minutes later!

Bass is actually pretty simple. Some guitars in some songs are a challenge, like the acoustic pieces of Still Life.
