Lyrics:
Demon of the Fall
Silent dance with death.
Everything is lost.
Torn by the arrival of Autumn.
The blink of an eye, you know it's me
You keep the dagger close at hand.
And you saw nothing.
False love turned to pure hate.
The wind cried a lamentation
before merging with the grey.
Demon of the fall.
Gasping for another breath.
She rose, screaming at closed doors.
Seductive faint mist forging
through the cracks in the wall.
I shant resist.
In tears for all of eternity.
She turned around and faced me for the first time.
Run away, run away.
Just one second, and I was left with nothing.
Her fragrance still pulsating through damp air.
That day came to an end.
And she had lost in me, her CREDENCE.

Yeah, quite a few. When i saw them in Nashville, it was clear that a good part of the crowd wasn't real familiar with stuff prior to Watershed and even less than that were familiar with stuff before Damnation. I remember being surprised by how few seemed to recognize this song or "By The Pain I See In Others." Still a good vibe though, you could just see a divide in the familiarity.

T K well he’s in his 40s and has been doing it for decades. I’m happy he can still growl decently. I’ll take this over Opeth retiring their heavy sound completely!

Jacob Ewing Well, if you do it correctly, age isn‘t responsible for losing the ability to growl as this is no natural singing. I think he just didn‘t train his growls very much in the past few years as he no longer needs them for their recent material.

  • @OutOfOrderBerlin

    @OutOfOrderBerlin

    5 жыл бұрын

T K you are totally wrong.. the age affects the tension and position of your throat and requires slight changes in technique. Mikael actually smokes... I think that lowered his lung volume over the time, so he has problems to get a stabile breath. All in all its complaining on a high level. I know no other singer who has such an voluminous growl. I am sure that no one would complain about him if he had always been on todays level ;) we are extremely spoilt^^

  • @Heavymetaleternia

Leon Haselbach No, I‘m not. A healthy singer shouldn‘t lose that much of his voice already in his 40s! We don‘t speak about a 60 year old singer. What about singers like Mercury, Dickinson, Dio, etc.? They didn‘t lose anything when they were as young as Mikael. Smoking like you said can be a cause for worse singing, but not the age of 40(+) alone.

@@shinedrummer LOL...thats the one song I would say that I've never seen Axe play as well as Lopez did on Lamentations. Sure, there were a couple of flubs on that performance, but that was one of the first shows they played the song at. And one thing that Axe never seems to have mastered is the feel that Lopez had on his material. Axe is a technically better drummer though, no question, I won't argue that. And is more precise in his playing, but it comes off as rather mechanical compared to Lopez's best performances. To each his own I guess.

Opeth is professional. The band is the career. Bands no longer make money on record sales like in past decades. Revenue is accrued from touring, selling merch, live recordings and TV publicity and endorsements. Touring is essential. Self-preservation for longevity is important for this reason. How many heavily touring metal and rock bands end up burning their vocalists out too soon?
