Lyrics:
Sorceress
I am a sinner and I worship evil
Blood is thinner but you will never know
Can you confess that you thrive in chaos?
You're a sorceress and your eye is on the lost
But you're dying
It's in your eyes
You're a charlatan
You get everything you wish
You're a harlot
Carry poison in your kiss
Beg forgiveness
With a dagger in your hand
Sow your death seed
And reap the dying lands
But you're crying
It's only vice
Empty vessel
Drained of hope
And none the lesser at the end of
A rope
Have you ever hated like I?
Know I still awaited the absence of lies
Watch your eager tongue
Attack me from behind
Riddle whispers
Bleak futile control
Like a twin sister
Adapting to a role
You're a murderer
Bloodlust increase
You're a harvester
Come close to spread disease
And you're hiding
I hear you cry

Martin Axenrot is easily one of the most skilled drummers alive who never gets commonly name checked as such. He plays with such technical prowess and power, but allows so much air in between each hit. That is truly the earmark of a superb drummer.

Because they weren't Progressive Death Metal. A lot of people have an issue with change. I personally don't as long as it sounds good. Some people won't budge though. I personally dug the last 3 Opeth albums because I'm a fan of 70s prog rock. I know a few older dudes who have become Opeth fans because of the last 3 albums. When I say fans I don't mean they only like their last 3 albums. They actually enjoy the Progressive Death Metal stuff too.

Sorry, no. I love a lot of prog rock and softer music, and several of my favourite bands have evolved more drastically than Opeth and I love all their albums to bits (cases in point: Katatonia & Anathema), but the last 3 Opeth albums... they're just a mess. No clear direction, the songwriting is all over the place, and worst of all that fucking godawful production that sucks the life out of all the "heavier" parts. It literally just sounds like they don't want to be metal anymore, but don't know what else to do instead, and Sorceress especially sounds like a massive identity crisis.

VulgrimOfficial Pale Communion is among their best work, Heritage and Sorceress are fine. Way overhated because people can't deal with change. But this is a step down from their hay day. They will find their new unique sound completely soon I reckon.

I agree. I was a late comer to Opeth via Steven Wilson . Was never a huge death metal fan myself , in fact Opeth are about the only band I can tolerate the "growl" vocal style. So being a big prog rock fan myself I actually prefer the mid-later period albums.

Friedrich Kunzmann i think thats Opeth overall. I remember when Heritage was released, it didn’t move me. The after the Heritage tour, everything made sense. Songs just sound better than what got released. Hearing it live made me love that album. Specially how keyboards really add to the atmosphere of the songs. Or maybe im just a crazy fan. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, this sounds really damn good (as Opeth always does live, including the new stuff). I honestly have no clue how Sorceress is not considered the St. Anger of prog already. It's the first album ever that forced me to turn down the bass knob so my ears don't blow up and the guitars sound literally like cardboard.

Fantastic performance. As someone who has seen the band live 9 or 10 times, it's clear that this is the material they should be playing live now. Mikael's growl is a shadow of what it used to be and you can tell the band don't really care much about that material anymore. By contrast, the clean vocal stuff really smokes. They have enough good clean vocal material now that the set list wouldn't be as thin as it was on the Heritage tour either.

I think they could have done better with the setlist, actually. Almost all the older tracks are on previous DVDs, and instead of half of Sorceress, would be great to see some of the really good songs from Heritage and Pale Communion - e.g. Voice of Treason (which I saw in Berlin and it was stunning), Eternal Rains Will Come or Nepenthe. Still a good setlist, but could be really great. :)

The Liberation: Oh yes, now since you mentioned "Heritage" and "Pale Communion", I do feel they could have extended their setlist by 45 minutes. But it is what it is and we have to settle with what we are being offered. I LOVE Folklore, Nepenthe, and the two Bonus Tracks 👉 Pyre and Face In The Snow from "Heritage". ☺️

The set list was cut short due to having Gojira and Mastodon (I think it was Mastodon) being the opening acts. When I saw them in Toronto, they played 12 songs. Songs missing: The Drapery Falls and Face Of Melinda. Mind you they switched some stuff out as well. They didn't play Heir Apparent when I saw them or Era. They played Will O The Wisp and Hex Omega. Kinda shitty they didn't even play one song from Blackwater Park on this live release. I wish they would've recorded one of their european shows instead. This was the setlist for that leg: 1. Sorceress 2. Ghost Of Perdition 3. Demon Of The Fall 4. The Wilde Flowers 5. Windowpane 6. Haxprocess 7. Moon Above, Sun Below 8. Hessian Peel 9. Blackwater Park 10. Deliverance Now THAT is a fucking setlist!

I was second row for this. I'm super glad that the Blu Ray has a more modern mix than the record, AND than the actual live show had. For everyone asking... the wind kicked up after Gojira's set, so it was about 55 when Opeth started. This was their opener. One of the best shows I've ever attended for sure. Gojira slayed that night too. I think their set was filmed as well, but I'm not positive.
