This was the very first Opeth song I ever heard, two years ago when I was still in high school, and I was captivated. These live videos are great because the audio quality and their performance is very close to the album recording, which also demonstrates how they try to record in the most natural way they can. As of this concert at Red Rocks, I think that Mikael was trying to re-learn how to do harsh vocals because he stopped using them and concentrated on his cleans, I prefer the way he does them on the album recording, they are more dynamic and "brighter", while here they're lower and generally maintain the same tone. The additional values that this live version offers though (aside from the great performance and a different perspective on the mix), are the presence of some more guitar effects, added (beautiful) lead parts, and the keyboard arrangements

You also need to consider the fact that Mikael is getting older and that the voice he had back in the day is not eternal. You can't growl for decades without any impact on your voice. Deliverance was released almost 20 years ago haha. I think we should just be happy that the band still exist and play those songs live even if the growls are not as powerful as when Mikael was in his late 20's and early 30's.

I have the CD/Bluray deluxe boxset of this and it is amazing, but I recently picked up the vinyl version and I have no words.

❤👍🔥 Deliverance is exceptional. I'm glad you put it on KZread. I saw you had uploaded it to Google drive, but I didn't want to watch it there where you can't comment or follow comments. I'm not in a position where I can afford patreon, and I noticed you can't interact by just following. Plus I'm not really into classic content. Being a senior, I grew up with it, so I prefer to stick with newer (progressive rock/metal). I'm really happy KZread didn't block it here. ***** ******Another to recommend for Opeth.... The Moor, ********and from the band Be'lakor....the song called Countless Skies.

I second both of the suggestions, I've seen that Still Life, from which The Moor is taken from, is a bit of an underappreciated album from the KZread community, and as far as what's traditionally considered melodic death metal, Be'Lakor is one of my favorite bands.

@@MusicWithToddLedbetter don’t wna say disappointed at the deliverance you reviewed, but that version is maybe 🤔 maybe.. a third as good.. it’s later and more progish.. way slower.. keeps it up brother.. Bleak.. studio.. ya? 🙏🏻

@@cyndycournoyer2206 It's also slower in comparaison because Martin Lopez had a tendency to play faster than the original tempo of the song, and it's pretty apparent at time on the Shepard's recording haha.
