Whatever you think of the concept of Monarchy, I think countries should uphold their traditions in the name of society cohesion. If every country in the world stopped their traditions because the economy is bad, there would be no culture. I think a 1000 year tradition can be forgiven and carried out. I wish my country would do something a bit glamorous for us once in a while, it would be good for the country's morale.

In fairness the treasury will also get the money back at least 100 fold from tourism. I remember reading after the last royal wedding in Windsor they spent 30 million or something on the wedding AND security [the family paid as well as the government] but they made it back twice over from tourism, television rights sold overseas and various other items such as selling of souvenirs online. The same will happen with the coronation, they might spend 100 million but I'm willing to wager they will make it all back again and more besides from tourism, sales of the rights to other countries - to show on TV - plus the various online purchases already being made by those who can't come to London. And then there is the added tourism to the rest of the country from those who visited for the coronation and then went on elsewhere to visit while they were in the UK. They never mention the money they earn from these events and I think they should, if people realise just how much the government makes from these huge state events then maybe they will realise that spending some to earn more is a worthwhile expense with the ultimate benefactors being the citizens themselves.
Such an informative documentary. I learned a lot. Well done!

Somehow royal pageantry seems outdated, and strangely, only suddenly, after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. To me it felt appropriate during her life, probably because she was a living link to the past. English monarchy today has a lot of work to do on modernizing itself if it wants to stay relevant. They pride themselves on being able to keep tradition alive and to evolve with the times. The second task seems a bit neglected at the moment.
This is a very informative and well made explanation!!

@@tiffanysanchez9184 A lot has changed in 70 years. The hereditary peers no longer have any power. They've been replaced by MPs and representatives of the Commonwealth, who are far more relevant today. The representatives of other religions will play no part in the religious aspects of the coronation. They are there as guests. People of other religions are not (and I doubt they ever were) excluded from being present at CoE services or ceremonies. All the necessary parts of the ceremony are still there. It's just been trimmed of most of the unnecessary and over the top ostentation of the past to be more fitting for modern times and economic realities.

9:34 "Homage" and _"hommage"_ are different words. "Homage" starts with a pronounced "H", ends with the same sound as "porridge" and can be given, paid, taken, accepted etc. It entered English as a Norman word. Some examples: - The khan presented his hand to accept homage from his conquered foes. - The head of state bowed deeply to his favourite actor, paying him homage, despite the relative indignity of his profession in the public eye. - The poet composed a eulogy; a homage to the deceased. - The film made in homage to the director's old master, displaying every element of the tuition for which the young director was most grateful. _"Hommage"_ starts with a silent "H", ends with the same sound as _"frommage"_ or _"Raj"_ and can't be given, only created. It's a loanword from modern French. An example: - The film was an _hommage_ to the works of Moupassant and Boudin, carefully imitating the styles of both.

Looks to be just wonderful.
First of all you may not know that King Charles has recently donated almost £1 billion specifically to be used for the benefit of the UK people in this tough time. Secondly, the Koh-i-Noor diamond was given as a GIFT to the British Monarch (not stolen or 'seized by the British' as you have stated). Indeed I have read that the High Court of India ruled that it was GIFTED by India and the Indian Parliament made the same ruling in 2016. As someone else pointed out in a reaction to this video elsewhere, the descendants of the Sikh Nobleman, who gifted it to our Monarch, have said that they WANT it to be placed in Camilla's crown. The diamond was taken from Shah Sooja-ool-moolk by Maharajah Ranjeet Singh. Before it somehow 'fell' into the Shah's possession it was thought to have made its way into Afghan hands, then the Iranians, the Moghul Empire, Uzbekistan and the Kakatiyas Dynasty.

Perhaps in exchange for giving the diamond back to India, India would like to return the billions of pounds the UK gave to India in aid over the years?
