This is one of my favourites! The original artist that was meant to take part couldn't travel due to Covid restrictions, so Jose stepped in - however he couldn't sing the higher parts, so he was singing Eli's original part - and Eli (the bald tenor) had to learn the part intended for the guest, so this is why you don't get as much from Jose! Typically the 'featured' guest gets a bigger role in their productions, they don't have a lead as such - they all play a part, depending on the arrangement, etc. From left to right, you have Cesar, Jose and Eli (pronounced Ellie) standing, with Layne and Geoff seated in front. Yes, they have been through a few changes over the years, for more info check out the channel of Huldra Draco, she is one of their top patreon members who has a ton of VP information about the members, timeline, etc. Looking forward to more! 😊

I know it must have been a disappointment for the originally slated guest artist--Anthony Gargiula, I believe?--but he has been able to join them several times since, and between Eli's rock belts and Jose making such a dead-on perfect pirate captain, I can't think of it as anything but a blessing in disguise.

When this hit, we were all floored by Eli's raspy rock tenor. Not that he hadn't used it before, but not at that constant level. Cesar was very new at this point and I have to confess that I thought he was straining on the more powerful sections. I have since learned that I was wrong. This was Geoff's arrangement, so he was responsible for everything including costuming, makeup design, set, props, production, first mix, video editing - everything. Try Layne's arrangement of Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame) or In the Hall of the Mountain King. Subscribed!

This was a great reaction! If you want to experience their skill with unison, I suggest Tennessee Whisky, where they do harmonic runs in unison. It’s pretty impressive! For a more theatrical video, I suggest The Hall of The Mountain King. Layne accessed his inner insane demon when he arranged it, and they went “all in” with it. Thanks for this thorough breakdown :)

There are only four permanent members currently (Eli, Cesar, Geoff, Layne), so almost every video/song since 2020 has a featured artist. Every single person they invite in sounds like they belong with the group, though, so it’s still a win for everyone!

Well, you are in for a joyous ride! So glad to watch your reintroduction to this amazing group. Your reaction was a ton of fun, just watching your face and enjoyment of the song! I could feel you 'swept away' with the flow of it. Really, the last 2 years or so (maybe 3?) they have been topping themselves with each song. We think they cannot possibly do anything more amazing and they come out with something epic! Not every time, of course, but quite often. I already subscribed when you did Geoff, but I will be here whenever you react to either him or VoicePlay. And I promise to go check out any other videos you have, as well. I'm kind of hoping you have some of your own music up. That little snippet where you sang a line to show what you meant in the reaction indicates you have a gorgeous voice, too. I know, should be obvious from your title. An opera singer should sound incredible. But still, something so unrehearsed? And still so beautiful? I do hope you have a video or two of your own up.

It was written as an instrumental ( no words ) & is played in many commercials and television movies. They are known as The Theater Kids of A capella & it shows in this one. Don't take your eyes off them as they are so much fun. Also by Voice Play are their latest ones .Hell Fire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame... Sleeping In The Cold Below..& Geoff Castallucci's Jacks Lament, he is quite the actor. As with all of their videos please wait until the credits stop rolling before you end the video. Sometimes they add more things. Especially in their cover of Halo, the theme song from the Halo Video game. The composer of the music was so amazed & loved it. I am looking forward to hearing some of your music as I am a new subscriber. Welcome back to Voice Play ❤

Hi Daniel! I subscribed. Before "Valhalla Calling" came out, this was my favorite Voiceplay song. It's solidly in second place. According to Spotify, I listened to HTC over 43,500 times last year. No, not kidding. I sleep to it. You mention the swaying, and to me it's like being rocked to sleep. "Valhalla Calling" my new favorite, has a bit too much of a beat to it to sleep to. But I do listen to it every other night for several hours before bed, and it is on all my evening playlists! You should totally check it out. I betcha $5 you'll leap out of your chair for it! (Honor system amongst Voiceplayas, I don't actually have any money. But I'll do the "Buy a coffee thing" if you hate it. That's how sure I am you'll love it!) Side note: "Hoist The Colors" broke several reactors. One of them Qofy, forgot he was just wearing boxers and jumped up in excitement, immediately becoming embarrassed. He'll never live it down, bless him! Another reactor, Dennis of The King Family reacts, watched the video, then when it was over, kinda sat back, looked at the camera, sighed, looked at the camera, then stood up, took off his headphones and walked off camera. He was speechless. It was epic.💙

This one is just EPIC! I love that you called out the difficulty of unison singing. I know you will be impressed by an amazing section of unison in Home Free’s version of “Helplessly Hoping.” The ear candy of the song is mostly in the gorgeous harmonies, but as a singer, what first stood out to me was a flawless unison by two guys who normally have vastly different voices. It’s a magical, and all to brief, performance. I hope to see you react to it.

I highly suggest checking VP's covers of RadioHead's "Creep" and Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me". Each of these start out with Cesar's lovely and emotion filled voice. Keep tissues close at hand. He also is the beginning voice on their newest cover of SoundGarden's "Black Hole Sun". Less sad, but still gorgeous. And two of these songs will introduce you to a wonderful singer they keep asking back as a featured guest - Anthony Garguila (I think I spelled his last name wrong? - pronounced Gar-joo-la). Amazing runs! He also features on their cover of The White Stripes "Seven Nation Army", which I find to be absolutely spectacular AND surprising.

I love watching breakdowns of Voiceplay because every reactor brings something new that I missed or caught but didn't know why I liked it so much. I am so happy you are back on the Voiceplay wagon and as you can see from their channel the list is long and the breadth wide. They do so much with what they have. Excited to see what you react to next! If you want suggestions, for VP I recommend I Can't Make You Love Me. It really shows of Cesar's voice. Oogie Boogie for more Geoff goodness, We Don't Talk About Bruno, or Nothing Else Matters. For Geoff I recommend Aint No Sunshine, I See Fire, Jack's Lament (my favorite even over the original), and the cowboy duo, Unshaken & Ghost Riders in the Sky.

If you haven’t listened to Voiceplay in awhile you have to appreciate how much they’ve improved. I don’t know of course but it seems to me that they as a group decided to take advantage of the quarantine to level up in every aspect of their work-they were great already but it seems to me they each put in the work to build up their skills and sound. They weren’t touring so they had time to work on their videos-sets, props, lighting (kudos to Eli for that), etc. The group-Layne Stein is the beatboxer, and behind him is the newest member, Cesar de la Rosa-a lot of us want to adopt him and the man has incredible range (you’ll hear him hit a D6!!! In the Lion Sleeps Tonight). Center is Jose Rosario Junior-featured guest who needs to come back and do more with Voiceplay. Of course you have Geoff, who arranged this masterpiece, and then behind him is the group’s rock god, Eli Jacobson, who also did the lighting. Layne and Geoff usually trade off doing arrangements but Eli just did the arrangement for their latest video, Black Hole Sun. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan of this group. I studied musical theater so I get a vicarious kick out of everything they do. Love your enthusiasm. More Voiceplay, please-you can just point and click, since everything they do is fantastic. You might check out some of their shorts, as well. They’re amazing and incredibly frustrating, because we all want full length versions of all the songs.

Although I am not knowledgeable, it seems to me that they have some things in common, with the layering of voices, the use of costumes and lights. Just as I return to Misty Mountains Cold over and over again, I return to this one as my favorite. Usually whatever they just released becomes my favorite for a while, but I always come back to this just because it’s such a complete package. I see that others have commented on two of the ones I always recommend but I’d like to add Dragonborn/Skyrim to that for a totally different but truly epic feel. And you really need to react to I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug by Geoff to see the dwarves again. Everyone that I’ve ever viewed has swayed along to this. And when Geoff did Ghost Riders in the Sky, they galloped along. You just can’t help it. I subscribed when you did Misty Mountains and will be checking out some of your other reactions as well. I have been down the rabbit hole for the last 2.5 years ago. Before that I heard Geoff doing The Monster Mash which made me find VoicePlay. Check Geoff's most recent solo - Unshaken. Geoff and Layne (original members from 1997), Eli (bald tenor came on in 2010), Cesar (the fellow with the damaged eye came on about 3 yrs ago). The fellow in the center is Jose Rosario, Jr and does a lot of Broadway. VP also had him come in for Drunken Sailor.

What I enjoyed about this piece that most reactors don't notice is that they sing "Hoist the Colors..." and then Jose raises his sword high to the lightning. So cool! If you liked this one, the other truly epic Voiceplay song is "Hellfire" from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Also Geoff showcases his voice by switching between upper and lower register in "Jack's Lament" from Nightmare Before Christmas.

My favorite thing about the sword hoist is that it was an ad-lib on Jose's part. Due to the reshuffling of parts they had to do to fit him into the arrangement at the last minute, he wasn't featured vocally as much as their guests usually are, but the man is a theatrical genius and IMO more than made up for that with the sheer _presence_ he brought to the video.

I don't see that you have covered Forestella, they are a Korean Classical Crossover (like Il Divo or Il Volo) quartet and I think you would like how diverse they are. 2 Opera Singers, a Musical Theater guy, and a Countertenor rocker with no professional training until he joined the group. Daniel: Congrats on taking such early notice of Eli's voice. Most reactors I've watched take 3 or more videos before they get past Geoff-shock and start noticing the incredible talents of the others. As a former beatboxer, it's not surprising that you noticed Layne a lot, but the other singers are beyond-belief talented, too. Especially Eli. He's the man of 1,000 voices. We all love is rock tenor (which you're hearing in this video) but wait until you hear some of the others. My favorite is his smooth baritone as in "Kiss the Girl" in VP's Little Mermaid medley, "Love Yourself" and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" (a short), though that last one has more in tenor range.

This being my umpteenth time listening to this song, today I focused on facial expressions. Most notable: in the beginning (up to about 01:30) Layne's efforts to look grim and threatening. He's generally a lighthearted kind of person and "fierce" doesn't come naturally to him. Later in the video he relaxes into a half-smile that, to me, passes for menacing better than the fierce face. For the entire video, Cesar has a range of dramatic facial expressions -- no suprise there -- but toward the end he gets really carried away. Check out 13:48. Actually, if you pause the video right there, you'll see that Daniel (the reactor)"s facial intensity is a good match for Cesar's!

My only comment on your videos might be to ask you to go back 5 or 10 seconds when you restart after talking about something in the video. With your comment fresh in mind, we can hear exactly what made you comment. And it would provide a little more continuity without significantly lengthening the reaction I am very much enjoying your reactions to Voiceplay.

Please don't kill me, I comment a lot, and like to keep different thoughts seperate! At 6:36 Are you speaking of Eli (pronounced "El-lee), the bald gentleman? Oh, you'll soon learn why we call him "Rock God Eli!" Hmmm, I sense you're familiar with Voiceplay, but perhaps it's been a while? If you'd like, I've put together a list of "rules" (suggestions, really) I've found beneficial for listening to Voiceplay.A good 99% of the reactors I've posted them to like them, but I'll only post them with a written okay, as one reactor did take offense to them, saying I was trying to tell him how to run his channel. I wasn't. It's all in Voiceplaya love!💙

Hmmm, is the heart a "yes" to the "rules?" What does anyone who reads this think? It's my only comment Daniel hearted, so it kinda seems like a yes, but...

You obviously know music! One suggestion... Lower your Mic volume during the video. You were blowing my ears out!! (edited) I just realized that your mic volume didn't change... so maybe increase the volume of the "feed through," or whatever the technical term is. Anyway, great reaction! This is one of my favorites by VP!

Hi I looking at your reaction catalog i see you have not reacted to Angelina Jordan she is a young singer songwriter, She has been performing on stage and in the studio since she was 6 years old currently she is 18 years old and has just done a concert on the 29th feb in Las Vegas. She has more than 200 performances on KZread & other media she released an EP last July called Old Enough. I would like to hear your reaction to her. I wont recommend a song just google her and pick any song cover or original they are all very good
