I think the voice lines that go with the theme as it starts to play definitely adds more to the feel of the music "Artificial intelligence activated. Enjoying yourselves, intruders? It's worth knowing the cataclysmic damage you will be responsible for today. Do not fool yourselves. This facility is not simply the fruitless work of some pathetic scientist. This house was built by the genius Clovis Bray I himself. Within lies humanity's salvation. La fontaine de jouvence. Made possible by Clarity Control. Magnificent, wasn't it? An entity from beyond our own dimension. And the answer to humanity's eternal struggle: mortality. Were it to fall into the wrong hands, humanity, and the universe, would be utterly doomed. I think a tad bit of context for this song is needed. This song plays after one of the most chaotic fights durring a raid just non stop action and noise. Then you beat it, you walk up a hallway in basically silence, you get to an airlock, it deepresurizes. And as soon as all the sound drops out becauze you're in space, thay first piano note hits. And you badically space walk around a space station while the rest of the song plays, looking down at Europa. Its honestly one of the most atmospheric moments bungie has ever made

Thinking about the nature of the Exos and the inherent tragedy of becoming one, i.e, having your memory wiped, and having all that was once 'you' artificially recreated, having a mind that is constantly at odds with its own body, not to mention the dubious practices of Clovis Bray himself against his Exo subjects. I think Deep Stone Lullaby perfectly captures that tragedy, while at the same time still instilling a sense of duty. The Exos after all, were built to fight. It's thanks to the sacrifice of hundreds of Exos that Europa didn't fall to the Vex. In the days before the Collapse of the Golden Age, the Exo were our closest equivalent to Guardians. Exos, like Guardians, are Humans who had their memories wiped, forced to fight an uphill war against otherworldly invaders. Clovis Bray himself, is ironically, the best example of this, going from an amoral, egotistical, utilitarian scientist to a selfless warrior who died 43 deaths to fix the mistakes of his past life, and finally be the Grandfather he never got to be to Elsie. It's my personal belief that the case of Clovis Bray is what showed the Traveler that, given a second chance, people would choose to do good, leading to the creation of the Ghosts, and the birth of Guardians.

If I remember correctly, the "Deep Stone Lullaby" itself is the actual operation/process humans go through that transform them into exos. This can be seen through the return of the main piano tune at the end, but now it's mainly synth (the new exo body) with a hint of the piano (their original humanity) in the background. Without having done the raid, and just some of your background knowledge in your experience in the game, how you were able to interpret something so accurate through just hearing the tune alone is why I've really enjoyed watching your content. This really deserves a listen with the AI speech included. So much depth and the interplay between the AI and the song. It's so nice. Also, this song partially loops. Musically this is a metaphor for the Exos themselves, who go to sleep and are "reborn" into a new body, which then also must "go to sleep" and be "reborn" again, from time to time; with each new life adding another digit to their name... As their most recent life is forgotten in order to stave off Cotard's Syndrome, and a new life begins, forward unto eternity. "La fontaine de jouvence. Made possible by Clarity Control." -AI of the Deep Stone Crypt It is a lullaby and a morning wake, all in one. Simultaneously representing both the end of a life and the beginning of one.

Deep Stone lullaby is from Deepstone crypt raid and comes from a part where you’re on the space station with the immortal creator of it talking about the fountain of youth( I.e. turning your self into robots) and how it will destroy humanity falls into the wrong hands so he would destroy the space station to protect it. With his final words being “you now face godlike judgment may it extend eternal”. And then the violins come in with you looking at Europa from space, it’s beautiful.

the Deep Stone Lullaby to me represents the final moments that the humans who came to Europa spent before becoming an Exo, it's exciting but terrifying at the same time. You would have no memories of your past life besides what is saved on a memory bank, will you even be you after you become an Exo? The intensity and the fear swell until... silence, and a reset. Your first reset as an Exo and your new life to come. The lullaby is what leads you to your final sleep in the Deep Stone Crypt.

I have such a connection to this song. I did the Deep Stone Crypt raid on day one with my friends. We were actually ahead of most teams on Twitch for the first encounter but we got stuck on Atraks just like everyone else. I think we were in that room for close to 12 hours before we finally beat it. It was a last second win, we literally wiped right as the encounter completed. This song plays in the jumping puzzle right after that. I'll never forget how exhausted and excited and sad and happy we all felt hearing this for the first time. We road the high of our victory and cleared 3rd encounter on our first try while we were figuring out the mechanics. Sadly we stalled out on Taniks because some people didn't spend enough time grinding their power up so we would get him down to a tiny chunk before he would enrage and wipe us. A supremely exhausting but fun day that I remember everytime I hear this song.

The best part is how this comes right after what is arguably one of _the_ most intense incounters in the game, one with so many moving parts that many, MANY teams got stuck on it on day one. And so to go from that to this gentle, tranquil, melancholy piece is honestly perfect, in a sense giving you a chance to calm down and absorb the surroundings. Combine that with the _spectacular_ vista of seeing the planet Europa so far down below, the sun just peeking over the observable edge of the planet, and it's just... _wow._

As one moves through the rest of that platforming section, you can see Saturn's moon, Europa, below you. This space station, the Deep Stone Crypt, is the birthplace of exos. The raid itself in terms of theme is quite the experience. Being a raid, not too many people have heard it.

So this song is supposed to represent the transition from a human to an Exo. The idea is that when you hear it the first time it's the pure version, the person as they are, then the second version has this tech feel to it. A more electronic component, represents their awakening to their lives as a Robot. The song is the same, but "corrupted" by the changes to a more technological theme.

I have such a deep attachment to this song. Day 1 raid day was tough with an lfg group. But this song was incediable. This song bring back so much memory and is one of my favourite moments and experiences in life. Bungie might not be able to maintain their game but damn they produced one of the best pieces of music. Its unfortunite nothing has come even close to this since.

Iv always put it like this sense I heard it. Raids are normally a noisy cacophony of guns and booms and especially your team mates calling things out left and right. This is the only time in ANY raid Iv run that every person goes "shut up AND BE QUIET!" And then you hear that first piano note and no one speaks until it's over.

One of the reasons why deep stone crypt is my favorite raid. The amount of atmosphere that went into this is off the charts. After an intense chaotic gunfight, and encounter where you probably will wipe a lot of times You're treated to a spacewalk jumping puzzle... And this song. Well in space sound is muffled in Destiny so you can hear the song even better. It's brilliant. And listening to a musician look at the influences, musical cues, and theory. Everyone talks about how amazing these games are and for decades musicians have just been behind the scenes doing crazy work like this.

Picture this: it's dayone raid, you are stuck for 5/6 hours on Atracks, frustration is basically the 7th member of the team, and you know that you are basically only half way. then this plays. A calming, soothing music accompaning you for a space hike on a station orbiting around of Europa. My team went completly silence for the entire time. I don't know what it is, I have several dayone raids and a LOT of hours in my playtime and this game have a LOT of issues, but music, music is always a 12/10 and I couldn't be more grateful to the people and minds behind it. ps: after the soothing music we onephased the preboss, and took just one hour for final boss. the power of great music I guess

Europa was a lot of fun to explore and discover the various new things that ultimately led to your guardian discovering what it meant to go beyond just being a bearer of light from the Traveler, and experience a new form of energy / power. The soundtrack ebbs and flows from low melodies and strong ones. It's a great piece of music that sets the tone for the next step in your guardian's story.

Interesting insight about the song structure. It starts gentle, builds gradually until suddenly it hits a 'wall' that feels out of place and collapses. Then it starts again from gentle, builds a little, but before it can reach where it was before we end on another more subtle dark chord, this one unresolved. As many have already said, it can refer to the life of an exo or a guardian - they live their life, die, and start again without their memories. But what's extra interesting is your perspective that it could also refer to the solar system itself. Actually, I think that view fits it even better: The traveler arrived > humankind advancing and colonizing stars > suddenly, the collapse > starting to build again > but dark clouds are looming again, this time sooner than before.

This is literally the best part of Deep Stone Crypt. Every time i go through DSC right after the Atraks-1 encounter, we go out into space in the Europan orbit and everyone in the raid group just shut ups for a few moments to take in the Deep Stone AI's lines as we jump to the next encounter. It was absolutely breathtaking the first time I experienced it and I'd highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't done the raid yet.

To me, since I heard it Day 2 of the Raid (we got absolutely gear checked at Atraks) and this takes place as you step out into space for a spacewalk for the first time in the game, the sadness was 2 fold 1. We finally got a true spacewalk. 2. No matter what we did, that strain was doomed to fall into Europa But the way they mute all the other sounds to make it feel like space (yes I know there's no sound but it's a game, you need some sound) really puts the emphasis on the music. There's also narration, which I recommend just looking up gameplay of this song and you'll get a playthrough. I did a short video on my channel using this song.

I remember when my team ran for day one contest We were stuck in Atraks for hours and hours, but finally managed to go through him... and then boom The spacewalk section, the sheer beauty and atmosphere of the raid... and this song. The rush of the contest went away, the stress turned itself into calmness and, for a moment, all that mattered was that we were all there, together. Then my friend said "That's it dudes, we won. That's the jackpot right here... thank y'all for this." This moment had refreshed us, brought us together again, motivated the team to carry on. One of my favourite memories in Destiny, by far...

Deep Stone Lullaby is an incredible piece on its own but the CONTEXT in which it is heard is really something special. You go into a facility that is attached to an orbital station and you take a rocket space elevator up into orbit and fight a boss and then the door opens and you step out into open space for the first time in the series. As you make your way along girders dodging rotating gyroscope stabilizers on the outside of the space station with Europa visible far off in the distance this piece plays beautifully highlighting the majesty of space and the incredible vista of a world seen from orbit all while being taunted by a mad AI bent on keeping you out of the heart of the facility with such importance that it is willing to destroy the whole planet by crashing the station into it with armed nuclear warheads.

I CANNOT begin to describe the raw emotion I feel whenever I here this, ESPECIALLY with the voice lines. To me, this track represents the only solid moment you have to think about whether everything that's led you to that point was even worth it. In the voice lines, Clovis Bray flat out says that he doesn't trust the Guardians and their intentions when up to this point, we've been the ONLY ones that people have put their trust in. Hearing something like that WOULD HAVE caused me to really stop and think a bit deeper if I wasn't getting torn apart by Sniper Shanks.

Part of what makes this track so great is the location it plays. After beating the 2nd encounter in the raid, you go on a spacewalk jumping puzzle to reach the next area. As soon as you leave the airlock, the sounds of the game all become very muted and soft, while this plays at full clarity. This is one of the few areas in Destiny where gunfire won't be the loudest sound, and instead this track gets to take over. It's truly the centerpiece of that section, and that's a big part of why everyone who has played DSC remembers this track (besides it just being a good listen).
