Would love to see your reaction to Astrid Varnay as Kostelnicka in Jenufa. There's a clip of it from 1970 in Munich, I think, with Rafael Kubelik conducting. It's a shame there isn't any video of her from her dramatic soprano career. Lots of audio clips, but no video. :)
Diana Damrau is the perfect Queen of the Night . No doubt ! She kills her role , I'm crying ... I hear the spirit of Mozart in her ! She's top one diva ! The best performance of this aria I 've ever heard for years! Soft and deranged acting ! The perfect Queen of the night!

She is amazing! She conveys all the emotions so well that even though I didn't understand a word of it. I was still able to understand every emotion she was feeling. I even watched it a couple times after the live. Awesome reaction Maggie!
You probably don’t wanna hear from someone who isn’t an opera singer but madame Damrau is my favorite coloratura saprano and this is my all time favorite aria.
I got to see Diana in the 90s at The Met. My choir teacher in high school knows her. She took us to see a dress rehersal of Die Zauberflöte.
Yeah she's kinda the GOAT for this aria. Also, whenever I listen to this one I have to listen to "In diesen heil'gen Hallen" from the same opera to bring balance to the force. Sarastro has some impressive bass notes there.

She is amazing just crazy talent just amazing talent to do that just blows my mind to work so hard though I mean could you imagine the hours that you would have to put in to being able to do that I mean just blows my mind absolute speechless
This is amazing. I can't imagine what it would be like seeing this live.
I always thought this is positive and uplifting aria...😂 I was very surprised when i found out meaning behind the words.
I’m so glad you checked this out-loved it. Her staccati here are like poisoned darts! (And to think some ad guy thought this would be a nice song to sell cars-seriously!) Another favorite of mine is Dmitri Hvorostovsky. It breaks my heart to watch videos of him now, but I still just love his voice. Next time you go down the opera rabbit hole, pick one of his! It occurs to me to ask: If you could do a duet with ANYONE, who would you pick?

Diana Damrau is the perfect antidote to park and bark.
More fun! Great job maggie!!
Deanna totally slays as Q of the N. Love it.
Best of all time

To expand on the several mentions of Mozart challenging his singers and musicians: that's barely the half of it. That time period had a culture of what would today be called "beef", and extreme competition. There is a limited amount of great scenes in Vienna, Paris, London... We"re talking about commoners who enjoyed a taste of royal life as long as they were in the favor of a court. And tradition at the time commanded artists (from composers to singers or play writers) to one-up each other. It was a double edged sword. Pull the role of Queen of the Night off, and you get bragging rights for the next five years being invited to half the courts of Europe, sticking it to that opponent of yours. Fail, and your career is relegated to popular "operettes", singing for food and an unnoticed life. Auditionning for a role was a calculated career move, not just an "artistic choice". This specific role was written for Mozart's sister-in-law. She sang it for 10 years. He may or may not have liked her, but the most likely thing is that Mozart knew full well she was capable of singing it. Her succeding was setting up part of his family for status. Call it motivated nepotism of you will. It wasn't written for her to fail.
EXCUSE ME, did you think Diana Damrau would hit a bad note?? Everyone who placed bets lost... 🤣🤣🤣 You and I didn't know what to expect... 👍👍🤘 Metal!!
Diana Damrau IS the Queen of the Night.
Once you get past how awesome this aria is, you realize that Mozart wrote it in German instead of Italian. 😳
I stumbled across this Aria earlier last year. I so wish i could have seen it live.
Opera! So Powerful! (Especially live!) And Mozart! Best musician ever? (On the short list certainly!) Nice reaction! Thanks for sharing this with us.

Mozart was definitely number two or three together with Beethoven and the placing of these two can be really discussed but number one not only by my opinion but by most experts is clearly Johann Sebastian Bach. Both Mozart and Beethoven would not been able without Bach.
6:15 I'm your classic baritone guy who's chest voice ends at around C5, I feel you cause for some reason I can get up to Eb6 of course it's not a super strong note but I can... a lot of people don't like that fact lol.
Wonderful post ! Can you do Erna Sack's "Nanon" next! That one will blow everyone's socks off!
Sempre più bella!!
A great aria, a great soprano, a magnificent opera. One of the greatest, The performance at the Salzburg Festival is overwhelming as is the production. One of the many crown jewels of our civilization.
Check out Maria Aleida singing the doll aria on KZread. She really sells the mechanical doll angle.
Even the camera is shooketh!
Thanks Mike and Mozart!
I can only dream of what she could do in a studio.

The first time I saw this, I said, "Oh, yeah. That's somebody's mom."
She sang this Aria extremely well and the fact that she was actually acting, I’m just amazed. Edit: didn’t expect you to mention Lady Gaga, as a die hard fan I was surprised.
Not only she can sing but she can act like a real narcissist, even her walk out of the stage although silent is priceless.
She is the Queen of the Night. And if you are a Freeemason you will discover a much deeper meaning. Mozart was a Freemason. Love from Sweden.
encroyable
I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of Carmen! Diana's vocal staccattos are amazing!!Are you mezzo soprano? One of my favorite mezzos is Christa Ludwig. You may not be familiar with her. She was popular in the 60s
Can you try and sing this I believe in you and would love to hear you try and sing it
she is definintely a hell of a singer in those high ranges. but it is defintely also mozart's insane genius in writing the music that makes it even that much better :) actaully i am in my late 40s. i was in the pitt orchestra in college and i guess i probably had hear dthissong a couple times in my life but wasn't really thinking of it. in our orchestra rehearsal when the siners came on and i frist heard these notes iwas like "holy crap" how can a college student sing that high?
I’m also a coloratura and Diana Damrau’s version is flawless. The powerful high notes are actually so much easier than the softer staccatos. 🙃
Es muy muy buena pero me encanta también la versión de Edda Moser !!!🥰🤗😁💪
Fiendishly difficult
I think you have a great voice Maggie.. I got a recommendation for you.. Danzig -Mother.. Like to hear you sing that!

Hey, I have someone you should listen to! (sorry, I just recently found you and don’t know if you take suggestions). If you want a great artist to listen to the you should listen to Melanie Martinez, she makes some really cool (and creepy) songs, I personally recommend listening to her Crybaby album or her After School EP! Have a great day!!

Please react to South African Soprano Pretty Yende's video performing Il Dolce Suono from Lucia Di Lammermoor. Thanks.
Given up by linkin park maam please react
Nobody will react 2 Diana , queen of the night , but u , u look Dimash sister , and u look like Diana also , i hope ur the next voice .. u got the look.... will c....
oh and one irony. this opera probably has one of the highest pitches regularly (alont with her other areia) but it also has , i think sorrestro? i foget which c haracter, also sing a male aria that is one of the LOWEST ranges i have ever heard tooo. i can't remember the name of that song though. but it is almost as low pitched as this one is high. the range in this over opera is insane
She is not the sort of lady you would want to face if you forgot your anniversary. Not a bad voice though (British understatement there).
Can you react to Lindemann & ZAZ - Le jardin des larmes Please :)
Great opera when done by great singers shouldn't need sub-titles. They project the emotions, if not the meaning, with their performances. Love your videos, keep them coming.

the vid was from royal opera house london, they do _Zauberflöte_ in german original. for the audience of rhe vid subtitles were added afaik
didn't Mozart make this one to make the opera singer he had a beef with bob her head up and down look like a chicken ?
Still think the award for this aria goes to Lucia Popp!
