I am not a gun nerd, but it's nice to see how those guys enjoy their find. And thanks for taking care of the German guns feeling! ;-) Let me return the favour: The dedication in the book is written in the old German script and translates as: In loving memory from your sister Lotte (Zur liebenden Erinnerung von deiner Schwester Lotte)

My grandmother did that with my grandfather's stuff from being a NY police officer and detective. My aunt was so pissed and told them they needed to give it all back. They made her go through 6 months of classes and permits/licensing (NY) and then they would only give back 3 pistols. They said everything else was illegal and they were to be destroyed aka they kept it all for themselves. That's the one thing my grandmother did that pissed me off, but she was older and mourning so she wasn't thinking straight.

In 55' after having it for almost 20 years, *he was an officer from 42-46 in the Pacific*, my grandfather turned his Navy issued 1911 over to Cleveland police. Nobody knows why. Conscience perhaps because they weren't supposed to take them home. Of course, I am sure an officer took it immediately for safe keeping.

His unit came across a warehouse and of course broke in. They found cases of P-38s and helped themselves. He took a dozen boxed pistols and over the next few weeks tossed them one at a time on the side of the road as they became heavier and heavier.

A dozen Lugers, a few dozen PP’s, PPK’s, P38’s, a dozen 1911’s, mix in a few SAA’s and some M1 Carbines, all of which are in near pristine condition and of great quality. Yeah, thats $500k plus. Hopefully over the next couple of years it all gets dispersed and lowers the prices of Lugers and PP’s at least by some amount.

Very nice! I think though what goes by most people is that during the time frame this particular collector acquired, the firearms were plentiful and very reasonable in price. I'll surmise a WW II veterans. I had an uncle that was in WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. Quite a colorful career. Collection was at least five times greater than what was shown. Nonetheless, this was cool. And there are other large collections awaiting as time and contacts unfold.

My Grandfather (WW2 airforce veteren) passed away when I was 19. The family on my moms side didn't know I had my firearms license or an interest in WW2 history. They gave all of his firearms to the RCMP for destruction. I only found out about it when I was 25. I'm devastated every time I think about it since then. I can only imagine what he had in his collection from the war. So sad.

It's sad for us average guys income wise that really good quality Lugers have become very expensive! Back in the 90's you could buy a really nice Luger with holster for maybe a grand. Now that probably wouldn't put you on the Layaway plan with a good Gunbroker dealer! Back in the 90's I bought several really nice Lugers but had to sell them when I had a layoff from my job in 2008. It was a sad day when I let them go!
