Opening Day with LIFT OPERATIONS - Fernie Alpine Resort
At Fernie Alpine Resort, I take you behind the scenes to see how they start their lifts and get everything ready for opening day. I went up into the engine room above the chairlift to watch it operate and ensure it didn't malfunction. Opening day is such an exciting time there were even 4 people that camped overnight to make sure they got on the chair first!
We do chairlift safety inspections and get them started so staff and guests can ride them.

@@MrJimmyp39 I know this post is ancient, but how do you even get a job in an industry like that? Lift construction and maintenance is such a specialized job that I would imagine you would need an apprenticeship or something like that to even get your foot in the door.
I've always wondered what's up there myself

@@DownieLive mysterious ways how this world works but I actually work as a lift mechanic at Fernie now just for the summer. Fun times
Some chairs that are very high altitude use diesel because it is too high for electricity
@ThoolooExpress

There are some deisel powered lifts out there, but they're few and far between, and definitely not built that way because of the altitude. Electric motors work the same at all altitudes but deisel engines lose efficiency. Also it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that it would be easier to haul diesel fuel up a mountain than to run a cable.
Nice!!

There isn’t a counter weight on that lift it’s hidraulic. Counterweights really don’t bounce like you described
That's why you're in p1 and I'm in p2
I respect the campers but doesn't make any sense!! why not sleep in a warm bed and just wake early enough to beat everyone else... to each their own I guess

LOL "electric is sustainable". How do you think that electricity is generated? Magically? Out of thin air???

Ours in BC comes from hydroelectric dams.
