Open vs. Closed Loop Explained - What You Need to Know
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Open and closed loop fueling control modes in cars both play a key role in insuring the car runs reliably. In this video I discuss the difference between open and closed loop in the context of car fuel control. I talk about how various sensors such as AFR senssors, MAF, and MAP play a role in this. I also talk about the tuning implications of running the car in both modes.
This is important information to understand before you take your car in to get it tuned, and it's important to talk to your tuner about what's best to keep the car running reliably, both off and on the dyno. And especially if the car is boosted with a turbocharger or supercharger. Other topics briefly discussed include injector pulse width as well as short and long term fuel trims.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Brilliantly explained
Excellent information!!! 👍 👍
iI HAVE A P0420 CODE. ON THE SCANNER I'VE NOTICED THAT UPON COLD START- UPS , I'M ALREADY IN CLOSED LOOP. MY CATALYST MON TESTS FAILS (SOMETIMES SENSOR 1 ,SOMETIMES SENSOR 2) . THE B1S1 O2V = 2.25V , B1S2V =.65 , .78 (FLUCTUATES). MAF= .00001? WHAT CAN POSSIBLY BE THE ISSUE????? THANKS!!
Nice work!
Is it normal for an engine to idle rough when it is in open loop?
Great video ❤
Thanks, very interesting and informative. I have a 370Z that is going to get EcuTek tuned in the near future, either by Rob Fuller at Z-Car Garage in San Jose or by Eugene Turkhov. I like the idea of initially setting up the fuel maps in open loop and then let the O2 sensors fine tune the AFRs finally.
Great video. I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra 3.3 VG33e. I'm getting different readings. For example. I show on my Foxwell scanner, fuel system 1 and fuel system 2. At operation temperature and at idle they are reading cl and then ol- fault. What does this mean. Thanks
What can you tell me about why my 95!deville is starting in closed loop and stays like that? Dafaq idk

Will definitely be a project I want to tackle in the future!
Can u make a detail video on your gauges and how they are wired and where they are wired plz thank you! Love the Z and channel! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for the support! Yeah I may do this in the future. Been debating swapping out the glow shifts for something else.

ARF sensors? Are you talking about the C02 sensors?

He means AFR or Air-Fuel Ratio sensors. Also known as an oxygen/O2 sensor or a Lambda sensor, they measure oxygen content in the exhaust and using that and the mass airflow and MAP sensors, they can estimate how much fuel is burning properly and how much should be injected
How about running closed loop all the time?

Because closed loop doesn't work when engine is cold and/or sensors cannot give accurate readings. 4:16
