Great video! I’ve never had such a detailed yet simple to understand explanation which included how the actual physics work and the reasoning of each mechanical function. My Pops had a 69 GTX with the 440 magnum & positraction rear end. As a kid I never knew what the hell positraction meant but thats how I described it lol. He bought it at 18 years old for $4,200 and kept it all those years. He kept it all original but he did a full restoration of it in our garage when I was maybe 6, back in like 94. I just wish he would have waited maybe another 10 years so I could have took in some of the plethora of knowledge he had and helped him. He’s now gone but I would kill for one more ride with him in it!

Well unfortunately not 😅 My dad has worked on his cars out of necessity (poor, couldn't afford to pay someone else to do it, needed to get to work that kind of thing) but as far as building a hotrod im on my own lol 😆 Tell ya the truth both parents would rather me stop hotroding and spending the money on other things 🤣

Question, I have a trac lok and track bars. The backend wants to pass the frontend when I step on it. If I tune my track bars like yours will it help me go straight during hard acceleration?

Sorry for asking but I have to know so that I follow: How did you manage to become "what you are" right now? Categorize yourself as you want (well-educated mechanic, tuner, drag racer, street racer, car builder, etc.). Whatever you are and you do, you are good at it. As a mechanic I'm curious to know if like movies, an old timer illegal racer took you under his wings and told you: you show your worth and I will teach you everything. Or did you attend any specific courses at technical institutions? Or you just decided to "become a car guy" and learned everything by trial and error?? Help me please. Show me the way. I can navigate it myself.

Well I think it all started way back when my Dad told me about his old cutlass supreme he used to have. Said he would go through a whole tank of gas just letting it idle in the driveway listening to it.....to me that was awesome! 🤣 Had big giant mickey thompson L50s on it and would burn second gear when it shifted....it was built! But he didn't really know anything about it, he poor and was more interested in playing guitar than actually working on the car lol He actually traded a few guitars for the car itself, but he would tell me stories about all the crazy things he did in that car tearing up dirt roads and what not so thats were the bug began! Then when I was 5 the "Fast and the Furious" came out and my older brothers were watching it.....that dodge charger....yep that completely solidified my passion for the old school. So then when I was 8 my dad said we could get a hotrod........but ended up getting a 65 galaxy 500 🤣 289 3 on the tree (learned to drive in that car) ......far from a hotrod that I was looking for, I wanted to have something just like what Dad had with his cutlass.....but I still loved that car anyway 🙂. But seeing as it wasn't the hotrod we were initially after, we saw the mustang on the side of the road for sale and ended up getting it. Now that was more like it I had thought! When we got it it had open headers and drove it home like that. First thing me and Dad did was put cherry bomb glass packs on it......I was a little disappointed because the open headers sounded so good lol 😆 But as time whent on the car never really took on the narly hotrod style I had wanted by listening to his old stories......because of two things (dad had gotten older and just wanted a cruiser....and the mom hated the car and didn't let dad spend any money on it 😕) So after my divorce (long story) I wanted a hotrod! Something that would be just like the stories I had heard all about! ......but the mustang was not my car .....so I had to get one of my own .......and I got a 1979 cutlass supreme (first car on my channel) and whent to work making it the hotrod I always wanted.....put together a 406 sbc for it and she made 505 ftlbs and 489 HP 3,000 stall and 3.73 gears with mini spool, running E85......it was an animal! It was shear delight! It was what I had wanted! It was CURSED!! 😑 I fought that car for 4 years trying to make it work right.....I delved deep into all aspects of machanical engineering from any place I could find it just to make that car work 😫 It would be amazing for a day or two....then sit broken down for a week or two....drove me nuts! Trial and error....trying to fix things that never ended up being the problem.....that CURSED car....is how I amassed the knowledge I have now 😅 Eventually dad looked at me and said "get rid of that money pit before you go bankrupt over it.....you get rid of that car, and you can have the mustang" ......the car I wanted to build to begin with....so with a heavy heart I got rid of the cutlass and am now working trying to make the mustang into a beast just like that car was.....I got a tast....and I need it again! But I've learned from my past mistakes (hindsight is 20/20 ....I bet I could have fixed that cutlass now that I know better 😮‍💨) and am taking it one step at a time......and bringing all of you guys with me! 😃 I know exactly how to make that car work the way I want it.....but im taking my time with the progression so I can experience the car improving and becoming better and better, more relatable to you guys that way too I think? But that is the short......kinda short version of it 😅 Hopefully it's not too drawn out 😂

I'm on the same road, just somehow behind and different. At least I know that maybe someday, I can build a car or two for myself... Open diff is just as good as a positive Aslong as your weight is balanced

I've been watching and comparing. Either spend money on a 9 inch pumpkin and 31 spline axles for unlimited slip purpose. After watching your video. Which i am subscribed to .I think im just going buy some 355 gears and dial it in as stated and send it .Appreciate all the detailed imput 👌💨

It looks like you have positive pinion angle? That would also help light off both tires.

Its weird how the passenger rea going down on the wheel makes it spin vs giving it traction. Normally, weight gives traction, not breaks traction. However, I am speaking from a trucker perspective. Im used to weight allowing more traction, vs. breaking traction, or spinning the wheel!

😂 the only way your going to ensure you have an open differential is to pop the center out. You could put it in Neutral also next time so it doesnt force the rotation opposite. If your familiar with Ford carriers youll know what I mean. As they say in the military "trust but verify"

I have a question about the slapper bars. My mustang is basically a daily but i have to feather my throttle when taking off because that passenger wheel keeps coming loose, especially around a corner, im just wondering how much the slapper bars affect the ride quality.

Well....I guess it depends on your definition of ride quality lol I guess I dont really pay much attention to it myself 😅 I like the feeling of the brutal nature of a hotrod! But if your looking for more of a cushioning ride.....probably not recommend 😂

Im not going to lie when I took the sway bar off the mustang I was a little worried about the handing on the street but....I didn't notice anything different lol 😂 The sawy bar is so wimpy that it didn't really do much to begin with 😅 But as for tuning it....not really 🤔 the thing the sway bar is doing is the exact opposite of what we want to achieve. Any effort to make it better at one thing...is just going to make it worse at the other. So really if you are not having traction problems right now then you can probably leave it, or can take it off and just drive her around a bit to see if it is something you are comfortable with. Then just put it back on if you dicide to 🙂

@@newguysgarage6802 I have thought about trying to adapt a Mustang ii rear sway bar to the Pinto. I have heard of people using adjustable rear sway bars in drag racing. The M ii bar isn't really that beefy though. But I need to get all my driveline complete before I go worrying about these things. 😂
