I never was a big fan of RK in the past, his vids never convinced me but his appearances on Open Bar proved me he is not just a loud guy but he actually knows what he is talking about it and has some well thought out views.

Princess Leia's whole selling point is that she's the Princess who immediately takes control of her own rescue while the boys bumble behind her. Carrie Fisher explained in multiple interviews that that's what she fell in love with. Star Wars was progressive af for its time period, and it did it in a non-cringe way. Post-hoc "traditional bad" descriptions of the OT are just flat-out lies. SW has always been woke content; it married progressive values with traditional archetypes and storytelling, that's why EVERYONE loved it; it felt like an old classic story while ALSO being hip counter-culture at the same time. But because these modern writers can't write 80 minutes of character drama to save their life, we need to spit on the original's bloody corpse and pretend it was the opposite of what it was.

I love that Ryan has been making more appearances on Open Bar lately! I felt like for two years they never really asked him on.. but since Star Grift, MauLer and Ryan broke the seal, and Ryan had been invited on Open Bar more and more!

Omg...TLP background of red coats and the British flag on the 4th of July had me laughing. Of course you would Platoon. I'm not suprised at all. Lol.

He had nothing of value to contribute. He thought he had cool things to say with “I don’t know if the writers know where he’s going!” And everyone was kinda quiet because of course the writers know he’s going somewhere. Then he also thought he had a cool quip about how the extended universe isn’t part of Disney Star Wars and everyone is like “yeah, we know.” He does not need to be back.

I think the Acolyte is supposed to be a noir detective story, but its written by people who have no idea what they're doing.

Interesting... big companies buy franchises because of the fans. They're not buying characters or stories, they're buying paying clients. So, what do they do? They alienate those clients by changing everything they were in love with. It's the same concept as if I bought McDonald's, changed the all menu to salads, and then called bigot to a customer who entered the restaurant hoping to get a burger. I understand they might be trying to get a new fanbase (not sure if they will), but at least they should be honest about it.

My nightmare theory is that Smilo will turn out to be Darth Revan, somehow. It's the dumbest thing that they could do, so they'll probably do it. No real evidence, just a gut feeling. There are what could be considered "clues" if you get real drunk and squint real hard. Unknown planet with a sort of similar environment but way better graphics, a random Selkath fish man for reasons, that talk of being a Jedi a long time ago and being betrayed, Manny Jacinto kinda looks like one of the preset males, plus Headland's recent talks about her love of Kotor and desire to do a Kreia story.

Every time the media starts rambling about sexual rep in movies I think "you know what you want? You want a porno. Thats it. Go watch that and leave film making alone".

19:00 - re: women not "represented" in Star Wars. The elephant in the room is this: War is an inherently _male_ activity. I wore the uniform for 20 years myself and I can tell you from firsthand experience: women in uniform _run from difficulty._ You'd never believe it with the impenetrable wall of propaganda and caustic consequences to one's career to say that out loud, but it's true. They could only and ever "win" in situations where the deck was already stacked in their favor or the rules changed midway through to accommodate their success. There _had_ to be double-standards every moment of every day for women even to make the basic of cuts. Those movies and TV shows where the 100# slip of a girl beats up a 250# soldier covered in armor and guns? They make policies and practices around that concept, even if it means the men get screwed over in the process. Female ego is more important than mission efficacy, and they juggle the books to make it look legitimate. We're supposed to repeat the mantra that "I've seen women who can do 10X better than the men!", but even those claims are based on the inherent double-standards, which are left out of the narrative when praising females. Because in my lifetime there have been very few times women and men were evaluated on a legitimate, level playing field. And each time was like the US women's soccer team v. 14yo boys--the women got _thrashed._

I was around when that crap started... Getting a girl at the tomb of the unknown soldier, etc... I "lost" a SOY competition to a female, who I know I smoked in every way.... Amazingly she wound up working for the MACOM CSM (who was the president of the board).. still pissed 30yrs later! 😆

This is something I consider were I to write an action piece; basically main gal's got superpowers of durability, strength, on top of peak agility-- and all of that only makes her _on par_ with the criminals she's putting in cuffs; but as soon as a male with superpowers rolls up, my thinking is she does the smart thing and pulls out her gun cuz a big guy with powers is a big guy with powers.

Laura Bailey got death threats towards her, and her family, including a newborn baby, for her work as Gigantor... er.. i mean Abbey, on Last of us 2. We all know what we think of Abbey. But the voice actress literally read lines in a little box into a microphone, probably did a little acting in front of a green screen wearing a little tron suit with ping pong balls attached to it. And these psychopaths can't separate an actress and our favorite Joel killing man lady.

The young actor who played Joffery on Game of Thrones in part left acting supposedly due to the insane threats he got for playing the character... There are more people than we would think who can't seemingly separate fiction from reality... It's insane how actors are attacked for bad or good performances due to these few people who can't separate things normally.

Flash Gordon is B rated kinda bad. In that, it's actually good in its campy cheese self. I will fully agree that the score was fantastic and in no small part due to it being Queen.

After dune 2 there wasn’t a word spoken on the 10 min drive home I was just in shock that a film like that could even be made. Even tho drinker only dedicated 8 minutes to it where he has spent 45 min on a Disney show??? So disappointing lol

Claiming that Endgame is worst than The Dark Knight Rises is a pretty ballsy take. Sure it has its flaws, but it wasn’t that bad. Must Mauler over analyze everything? Is he incapable of suspending his disbelief?
