Open Baffle Speakers Tweeter Test

Ғылым және технология

Sound test for custom build open baffle speakers with and without tweeter driver. Since the Visaton BG17 fullrange speaker has high sensitivity(93dB), maybe I should adjust its output with the L pad. The tweeter is Arylic Air Motion Transformer (AMT-9). Next time video more about my open baffle speaker upgrade process with tweeters. The amp and dac is Arylic B50 bluetooth stereo amplifier. Media player is Foobar 2000.

Quality work man. Just a tip, you may want a full baffle behind those tweeters as the edges can cause quite a bit of diffraction, as will that desk. Also, open baffle speakers can be tricky to design because that front wave and rear wave can meet at the sides and cause cancellation and phase issues. They need quite a lot of distance from the rear wall, at least 2 feet I believe, but likely more. They look really nice though. Great finish.

100% . Too close to the wall. I have semi open baffles from GR. Excellent advice.

True, and he can also use some more thin (about 0,5cm or less foam or other sound damping material around the woofer and tweeter areas and wood, especially at all the surface around the speakers and all wood nearby + its square corners to avoid most edge diffraction. If you want to do it for cheap then a few yoga mats can do the trick, cover the entire front and back panel including the stands with yoga mats and cutout the woofer and tweeter hole as a test if you like to, it wil eliminate most reflexions and diffractions. Plus those cheap yoga mats are available in alot of colours no more painting :p

Great job. I think the purpose of your work is to experiment and the audience is learning together with you. I am curious how is it going to sound with additional woofer, if you are planning to do that. My first thought was that you are too close the wall and somebody already mentioned it. Speakers are location sensitive, especially the open baffle because of their design. Would love to see the video with changed location. I always look forward to your videos.

thanks :) yes, room and speaker placement significantly changes the sound. I try another room and also with subwoofer.

The tweeters definitely are a big improvement in my opinion. Maybe the Achat 112 subwoofer you previously showcased would be suitable to add some low frequencies?

The Achat 112 subwoofer not for SQ, but I have on JBL ES250P, that I can try just for demo.
