Open All Hours - s01e06 - Apples And Self Service
Ойын-сауық
Open All Hours
Season One, Episode Six - 26 Mar. 1976
Arkwright has bought too many apples and desperately tries in vain to persuade each successive customer to buy some. After raising eyebrows around town after finding a pair of shop window dummy's legs, Granville tells his uncle he should adopt the personal touch in his sales methods. Arkwright, however, plumps for self-service and then suspects everyone of trying to shop-lift.

Shame British TV and film has gone downhill, they don't make TV shows like this anymore 😂🎉😂❤

One of the finest comedies
"They're supposed to just walk in and bare-b-boom!" "Bare b-boom?" 😄
Something just timeless and special about this and the pair together. Was so sad to hear nurse Gladys passed away not long ago too. They didn't even dedicate an episode to her though or said something about EastEnders but she just disappeared. She was very good and hope she's resting in peace seeing this and knowing she's still appreciated too. Watch this late at night sometimes and takes me back to childhood in England. So comforting though much has changed. Thank you for sharing as BBC disowned as not politically correct now. We have lost so much of this and things like Fawlty Towers (liked Sybil). Laughter is really what we need in hard times.

This is the first time I've seen a Ronnie Barker's work. I've heard of him but never saw him. From here I went to Going Straight. It's amazing how dynamic he is! His characters are so different. A lot of actors can't change as well as he could.

Watched this back in the seventies, laughed so much. Walked past his ‘shop’ many times when I worked in Balby and the scene of Granville riding his bike with Bon Marche in the background was filmed in Doncaster town centre market place. My home town

thesmf1210 I laughed myself silly , so much potential for silliness. We used to have a male mannequin rescued from a garbage skip, we cleaned him up, called him Roger, the French pronounciation, tied frilly maids apron round his waist and put him in the front window.. The neighbours were full of admiration for his feather duster. True story. Last I saw of Roger was at a friends house, I had donated his services for a house warming party, he was wrapped in twinkling lights and a long feather boa. My friends kids fell in love with him, so I left him there.😂😂😂😂😂😂💕💕💕💕💕💕

I bet Arkwright would expect nurse Gladys to pay for the wedding.
@hana.the.writer5074

He dies not believe a wedding is a must actually let alone a honeymoon 🙄 He’d probably take her out for cupcakes (gift from neignbors) to spend some time in the nearest park in their town with her bringing along her tea probably for an hour or.. less🙄 timing it with a cloudy day hoping it’d soon shower or pour down greatly and that’d be her honeymoon! 😁
love this series..thank you.
I like the part at 28:02 when nurse Gladys Emmanuel attack Arkwright with those apples It was so funny and so hilarious And of course the part 3:00 when Granville blunt that sickle acting like an honourable ancestor

😂😂😂"Come in and take the weight off your purse." Extreme honesty in public being offered is a so much more endearing set of business practices than pretending to be perfect. Good enough for the grump
They had double glazing of their windows back in 1976?
Ronnie Barker's knack for diverse character roles (all of them witty and humourous) was a rare one for modern times. He said himself that he loved doing such roles. Who could ever confuse the indolent petty crook Fletcher doing time in 'Porridge' with the strap-cashed Lord Rustless of Chrome Hall.. with again, the doughty and mean (but randy) old shopkeeper that we see here? Some might have said that there were few credible roles for a fat middle-aged comedian ... who was pretty much unknown to most of us; before 'The Frost Report' (and the now legendary 'three tier' sketches with John Cleese and Ronnie Barker... and the laugh-a-minute episodes with the latter on 'The Two Ronnies' [So it's goodnight from me - and it's goodnight from him!'] - that a corpulent 50-odd year old comic would be limited by that in the roles which he could bring to life (and still be funny)? Here, as ever, Barker proves them all wrong!
