It's sad and disgusting how everyone is so concerned about trying to get OP's parents in contact with OP, but they just completely overlook the neglect they did.

And in their own words, now only seek him out cause their lovers have moved on and they feel lonely. Not because they realised they loved him and regretted the neglect. 🤦🏾‍♀️

    * in annoying voice * " buttttt itttts fammmmalie..." Zero damns given for OP and his emotional neglect and abandonment and the fact his own mother was having Congress with a boy her own sons age! His parents do not deserve anything and his extended family long walk SHORT plank. Frankly in his position he probably is scared to see his mum and dad's new swing poly buddies.

Story 1: Dude really went to the poly subreddit and ask about parental neglect from them. Its like walking into a room full of thieves and asking is it ok to steal. He really need to learn on how to grow a backbone and prioritizing his own feeling and needs.

Story 1: OP should’ve gone NC with his parents when he moved out and when his grades had gotten better. His parents are using him because they have nobody else. They’ve never truly cared about him. And if his girlfriend and her family don’t understand that, he needs to cut ties with them, too. Story 2: OP’s mother is lucky that he didn’t cut her off after pulling that BS. This shows that sometimes, parents don’t always know what’s best. Glad that OP and his wife had moved their wedding a week early. Story 3: JEEZ! What a creep! This is why you have got to be extremely careful out there. There are a lot of psychos out there.

RE: 2nd Story OP's mother seriously screwed up. And she's a Psychologist? Clearly not a very good one. She acted unilaterally on someone else's behalf, without their knowledge or consent, and with no understanding of the History. If she wasn't already retired, and had this been done in a professional, rather than personal capacity, I'd be moving to get her license revoked. That was incredibly reckless and stupid. And she invited him to their Wedding... that's beyond fucked up. That's what a bride wants on her wedding day, an anxiety attack, wondering if it will be crashed by a monster. And who the fuck invites people to someone else's wedding to begin with? This wasn't a date with her plus-one, she extended an invitation without the consent of the couple. We don't know the cause of the estrangement. Maybe he cheated on her mother. Maybe he was physically abusive? Sexually Abusive? We don't know, and we shouldn't assume. What we can assume however, when a woman doesn't invite her father and only living parent to her wedding, she has a good reason. We also know this is a long-term estrangement, so the father would likely use the opportunity presented by the wedding to: A) Rehash the past and try to make amends, forcing her to confront that uncomfortable past at her own wedding and ruin the whole day. or B) He'd live down to his daughter's expectations and just deliberately ruin the wedding out of spite or resentment. OP was right, this was pure arrogance on his mother's part. She had some half-baked fantasy of a joyous reunion and she'd be the hero of the day who saved the whole family. This woman is unhinged. This was all about placing her own vanity above the bride and groom on their wedding day. She can rationalize it any way she wants, but that's what she was doing. And she was a Child Psychologist. I mean no disrespect to the profession as a whole, but they need merely to advocate for the child and effectively communicate to the parents, but that child-parent dynamic doesn't require the same meeting of the minds which conflicts between two adults would require. This is far outside of her expertise, and it seems to have severely biased her approach. She acted on the "child's" behalf as if she had any authority to do so. It doesn't work the same way with grown-ups, and that should have been very obvious to her. This is not a case for a child psychologist. Now psychiatric gerontology... perhaps. Maybe age is turning the mother's brain into mashed potatoes and it's time to pump her full of drugs and ship her off to Florida. I wouldn't rule it out, and I might even start looking for professional consultation to that affect. These are not mistakes a properly functioning mind makes. If I was OP, I would have my fingers crossed that it is dementia setting in, because it's more palatable than the notion that this is how her brain normally works and has worked for years as she treated children. If that's the case God help those kids, there's no telling what damage she's done.

S1: Think there was a Reddit story from the parent’s pov. They acted like they were the best parents in the world and their son just up and went no contact. Even when their son explained why he didn't want to see them, they didn't care and kept harassing him. The parents were obviously manipulative and selfish, but we can't underestimate the power of flying monkeys. It'll be impossiblefor OP to cut off his parents completely unless he cuts off the flying monkeys too, even his girlfriend. Also I bet the only redditors who shamed OP for not seeing his parents are either neglectful parents or belief parents should be forgiven regardless of what they do.
