    Look up "Ozzy After Hours" there's several live songs with Randy playing and they are good quality footage. The Osbourne's have all kinds of footage. Bob Daisley has recordings no one has ever heard. He can't do anything with them since he was promised to be sued penniless if he was to release any of it. By who? Oh, your friend and not mine, Sharon Osbourne!

    @@DetroitWrecker666 interesting. Thanks for putting out that info. I have long imagined that to be the case, there must be good footage, the Osbournes are just sitting on it. That is in fact cruel and heartless when I give it some thought. It must be all about not wanting to give the Rhoads family money. Wow. How everloving greedy? Everyone would benefit from hearing and seeing Randy play, it would honor his legacy, I cant think of a reason for shelving it? So... they make no money from it now, but they dont want anyone else to profit from it just the same. The level of cruel and greedy is hard to comprehend.

    @@saltpeter7429 Go do some research on Sharon Osbourne. This is only a minor blip compared to her past in ripping off artists and other things. If you're a reader and love Randy stuff. Go buy a copy of the book "For Facts Sake" by Bob Daisley. Bob is an incredible musician and very much a HUGE part of Ozzy's success even today. He kept Diarys since as long as time goes back (Diary of a Madman) and shares with us exactly how, where and when things happened during the recording of the Randy albums. As well as forward. He plays Bass and writes music for Ozzy.

    It seems Tribute brought in new fans and a different level of appreciation, but those two albums were so good, it is surprising to me Diary of a Madman did not outsell Blizzard of ozz, which remains the top selling metal debut album of all time, but it is heavier sounding but it has so many great things on it with different styles and tempos.

    @@TheNeuroticGuitarist Yes, and for all the Younglings in the crowd, there was no such thing "behind the scenes" in music. You NEVER heard an outtake, or even many artists' real voice. All you knew about them was a few pics and whatever was the final album cut. Hearing Randy's real voice, and the airplane fly over, and the little giggles, etc...were utterly unique at the time and showed that maybe, just maybe even guitar gods once walked the Earth among us mere mortals......Fun Fact: Tom Morello named his first child "Randy" in Tribute. @@TheNeuroticGuitarist I think diary was recorded a year after Blizzard of ozz., I mean almost exactly year. But, they had more time to write and record with Blizzard of ozz, DOAM had I think 3-4 weeks to be written and recorded according to Bob's book. And max said he could already see a night and day difference in Randy's playing from the first album, touring had changed him. Imagine how good Diary could have been if Randy had the chance to write the solos he wanted on all of the songs, a few of the songs only have the original solo he played when the band recorded the tracks. And Randy also noticed the tuner was not calibrated in the studio and everything was actually down tuned, but he liked how it sounded so they went with it,

    I got into Ozzy when I was 10 years old back in 1984. My dad had left me an 8-track of Ozzy's first album and I listened to it constantly. When Tribute came out and I finally got to hear Randy playing live it blew me away. Before I even picked up a guitar I asked my aunt to buy me the tab book when I saw it at a guitar shop because I loved the pic of him holding Randy up and loved the purple tinted picture. It took two years for me to convince her to buy me a guitar and though it was a shitty acoustic I did my best to learn as many songs off of Tribute as I could. I never got to be that great a player but I still know all those songs by heart (even if I don't play them all that well). Randy didn't just inspire me as a player he inspired me as a person. He was by all accounts a really sweet guy and never had a bad word to say to his fans. If you look at my profile picture it's a pic I drew of my main character, a rock and roll guitar-playing kangaroo named Zid who has hair just like Randy's. :)

    It's amazing how close to his tone it sounds. Randy had a sound that was chunky, and dirty, but there was so much string to string separation and clarity. How much of that was his hands, and how much gear, I don't know.

  • @TheNeuroticGuitarist

    @TheNeuroticGuitarist

    Definitely a LOT his hands. I take so much more stock in the fingers vs people thinking they're gonna get an exact copy of someone's rig and sound like them. I remember seeing EVH at a hard rock Cafe and he complained that the back line was a solid state amp but no one but him could tell the difference. That said, he wanted his V to have a lot of the attributes of a les paul and I think it very successfully succeeds. I also think I've been copping Randy's style since I was a teen, so you're 100% hearing my fingers imitating randy. I'm playing through a little ENGL, the only thing the same is the guitar.

    Guitar Showcase Sano Jose CA had a Sandoval V with Randy's original sketches. I went to highschool with the kid (Mike C) who contacted Mrs Rhodes and got the sketches and had a second V built by Sandoval. its funny....when Blizzard and Diary came out in 1980-81, i thought Rhoads was the greatest id ever heard and saw....and i still think that. But back then, i was also into all the metal bands...VH...CRUE...WHITESNAKE etc...all of it. I was in my early 20's then...and here we are 43 years later, im 64 years old now and havent listened to all those other bands in 25 years at least and i could care less if i ever heard any of them ever again....yet, to this day, i still listen to Randys work every single day, like they just came out. I get the exact same rush and excitement to this day....the guy was one of a kind. His legacy, incredibly, seems to be only getting bigger 43 YEARS LATER!!!!...i mean its starting to get down right weird....what a strange, esoteric and absolutely magical yet heart breaking story....dont really know what else to say...he was the greatest.

    Recently I stumbled upon a sealed vinyl copy of tribute for $100. I said f it and bought it. Now I like music on all formats but holy crap it legitimately sounds better on vinyl than CD or digital. Idk what it is but it's that perfect mix of a natural sound but also is deeper and meaner sounding and the guitar is almost put front and center over all else

    It's probably the warmth you get from a record. They have substantially less bass and the mastering is different so it also could sound better because of the way it was mastered to vinyl. There are a lot of people that prefer the mix of the bootleg of this show over the actual album. So there are multiple reasons. Thanks for watching, subscribe and join the madness 🙌

    @papa blue I have. I watched the ultimate ozzy on vhs growing up and listened to this one salt lake city bootleg of Jake over and over. I always loved Randy's solo in suicide solution over Jake's in killer of giants, but I think Jake was such a smooth player and an over the top showman. Randy was randy but I don't think polkadots and a bowtie would work on anyone else and it certainly wasn't badass, he just made it badass for what it was. Ozzy pulling on Jake's hair and randy Castillo walking around his drumset was a huge reason I got into ozzy. I've gone back and started liking the bark at the moon album a lot more but I always always loved the ultimate Sin despite ozzy claiming it was his worst record. 🎸🔥🙌

    at the time that album was great, but now we know with all of the bootlegs on youtube, that show was one of the worst ones they could have chosen , Randy sounded great but they should have chosen among the Diary shows, and include Over the Mountain and also You looking at me Looking at You from the UK show they chose from with Bob and lee. His playing got so much better over the course of those two years, the classical guitar lessons really changing him.

    I heard that randy thought that guitar was too heavy. The second one with the shorter fin is an amazing guitar. Ergonomically speaking, hands down the greatest guitar made. It’s lighter and still has that Gibson sound. That’s dope you got to play the Sandoval. The Jackson version is a challenge to play also, the way I remember it, that one is heavy also, but the neck totally felt like a les Paul neck on a bigger v. But it sounded freakin great. Cheers 🍻

    I saw Randy with Ozzy Feb of 82, yah I am turning onto an old fart now. The thing with Randy when he played the PDV, a lot of time the neck was pointed almost straight up in the air. He would shred a lot of times almost like playing an upright bass. It was amazing he could do that. He was amazing live. I still have some memories left of the images.

  • @TheNeuroticGuitarist

    That's totally because of his size and how to position his hands to hit those notes properly. It's quite an awkward guitar nevertheless it's huge and he was a very small guy! @@TheNeuroticGuitarist Oh yeah exactly. He made a Les Paul look big. When I saw again on display the Concord Jackson at Cal State it looked so tiny. To me watching him he didn't look super small on stage next to Ozzy because he wore the high heels. Ozzy is only like 5'10 only. Though yeah he was tiny in body mass and skinny also. His head looked bigger than his waist with all the hair. i have seen his PDV again also on display up close at the RR Hall of fame along with his QR outfit. It was crazy how small the waist is. Unlike his White Concord Jackson with the higher cutaway he wasn't happy with in the higher register frets reaching notes. Then they redesigned the black Jackson to give acess better above the 14th fret. I have been privy to some private footage and even in the spotlight solo, the neck was parallel to his body and he shredded like that straight up in the air. I think he got used to playing it like that though live .. Cool about Dimebag.. another tragedy..
