Hahahaha I knew on that first play you were going to do I rewound it several times and paused it at each frame just to guess what you would say about it. It comes down to leadership IQ on the floor just as much as doc coaching. Gianns should be the one communicating that in real time being the “free safety” of the defense. You can get away with average or even below average defenders as long as you playing positionally correct and all of this stuff can be showed by doc rivers but all it takes is one bone headed mistake or misread by a single player and it’s over. That’s why the bubble season was so awesome you were able to see the chess masters at the highest level and hearing all their communication with no crowd. That was the highest level of basketball I’ve ever seen. Even TJ warren was able to drop 50

In soccer we have a term called ‘ball watching’, when a defender is watching the ball, instead of paying attention to the player they are marking/guarding. An action which can often lead to conceding a goal. This has nothing to do with coaching, this is a player problem. These players nowadays don’t care, don’t have any basketball IQ, nor do they have any pride or accountability. If we were just seeing this with one or two teams, blame the coaches, but this is pretty much the whole league. The players today are just not good enough and the coaches can’t take some blame of course. The has been made easier (Adam Silver said out his own mouth) but somehow these players make it seem harder…. You go figure

So, they never practice defense, which translates to HS, and to college, and to the NBA. They literally don’t care. There’s no fame in being a great defensive team. The last defensive team to win the NBA finals was…the Detroit Pistons in 2002. They smothered the Lakers.

These players today don't like to practice. They are out there trying to figure things out on the fly. Back in the day, players practiced offensive and defensive plays. How to box out a shooter, how and when to switch, etc...

It's not just doc, how did the Joe mazzula celtics just boot a 30 point lead on the hawks? The nba for the most part don't even run plays, it's a free for all😅

It's not the coach's fault the players blew it. Malike Beasley and Dame had Hella good looks in the 4th quarter and they blew it. That's not on the coach.
