Only Arms for 8 Years

And legs. About 1.5 years ago I found some split stance movements I can rock with. The leggies are coming on strong. Overall it's a difficult problem to fully explain. It took me years to get a grasp on it.
Ultimately, I know there are lots of you out there who also have experienced some form of your body breaking down on you. It's terribly frustrating and can really rock your life in a bad way.
I am not perfect, actually greatly flawed. My body doesn't quite work the way its supposed to, but I choose to do focus on what I can do, even if it isn't ideal. I have seen great rewards from this approach. If you too have some sh*t you're dealing with, just start working on what you can do.
Keep showing up, keep improving, and embrace the process. I'm out here in it every day, sitting in the gym stretching, rolling my pecs, hanging off random equipment, foam rolling, holding a dam quad stretch for 5 minutes...all of it. But it's better than doing nothing and just sitting at home feeling sad about it. Get in there and move your body, do something, keep progressing - you really never know what it could lead to.
I want to take this as far as I can - to show people what is possible even with limitations. I don't think I'm special, everyone has their own sh*t, some worse than others. But I want to push this mindset and share my journey, because physical dysfunction blows I'm here for ya. Go make some gains!

    I had a similar shoulder muscle imbalance which caused numbness in my 4th and fifth finger and other problems. But instead of not training chest and back I went to a physiotherapist, got assessed, worked on my shoulder mobility and shoulder external rotators and trap strength, while continuing to work hard in the gym and incorporating corrective exercises. Almost 2 years later my shoulder stability has been drastically improved, I don’t experience numbness or any clicking when articulating my shoulder and my chest and back are much bigger( my bench and deadlift has improved a lot too). This just shows the importance of not making excuses and putting in work to improve yourself.

    Same exact experience here, Just like him I had issues with numbness and pain on the left side of my neck when doing chest/pressing movements. Went to a physical therapist and she noted that I had way too much internal scapula rotation. This was due to over active traps and pec minor, and a weak infraspinatus and serratus anterior. This caused my left shoulder blade to be higher than my right, squeezing some nerves. Im not completely recovered, I still have the scapular winging, but I have diminished the pain completely, still have numbness sometimes, but it's gotten a lot better in just 6 months while I have been dealing with that chronic discomfort for six years.

    brah you have no idea. I've seen so many different doctors, physios, chiros, you name it. Learned many things, no one could just 'fix' the issue. Not saying it's impossible but after many years of this I decided to take it into my own hands and find ways to manage it and do some training.

    @@leni1969your are correct, but it's probably his muscle imbalances that causes the pressure on the nerve bundle that causes the pain, muscle imbalances like this are possible to fix, but actually very hard you need to basically be your own doctor to fix these problems because most physical therapists, ironically, aren't even qualified to solve these issues but will still opt to take your money anyways. I personally think you shouldn't be obligated to pay physical therapists if they don't fix your issue, just like I wouldn't pay a doctor if he didn't successfully complete a surgery.

    Interesting, ive been dealing with weeid muscle imbalnce issues since i started lifting, and it all came to a head a couple of years ago. Since then the weight training i am capible of doing is solely isolation lifts, and i still havent been able to press comfortably without feeling super contorted. Im glad to see someone else that might have issues make great progress.

    1: go see a doctor if you have yet to. This could be a symptom of some serious conditions 2: as someone with a similar imbalance due to neurological issues. Use extremely strict form and lighter weights. Pick a day to exclusively focus on that weaker side and use FULL ROM and work on mobil and stretching as well A lot of imbalances are simply due to a mobility deficit on one side and the body naturally adapting

    Man, great work not giving up but you should really consider seeing a PT or Doctor to fix your imbalance so you can avoid more problems down the road. I ignored a problem with my lower back, if i had prioritized that.. id be so much better now. 2 rounds of 6 weeks of PT with 2 really good guys helped me figure out my issue and im back to being able to squat and twist pain free. Still a bit of muscle imbalance, but its getting better every week.

    I've had chronic neck, face and head pain with muscle imbalances all over my body for 10 years and dozens of physio and osteos couldn't help me. One day I decided fuck it, I'd rather be jacked and assymetrical than skinny and slightly less assymetrical. Sure the lifting probably increases pain somewhat, but I'm much happier when I lift and that matters more to me. Sometimes you can't fix a problem, but you can still work around it to get as close as possible to your goals.

I understand everyone’s body is different, but if you’re going to completely forgo any exercise that hurts you, your ego is in the way. There is NOTHING wrong with lifting 2.5 pound weights for therapy.

    MATT!!! We should talk. I'm only 21, but I've had the same problem since I was 16. I've seen physical therapists, chiropractors, etc. I have a family history of trigeminal neuropathy. Not the same exact thing as you, but we're close. My right face, eye, jaw, upper trap sieze up and get extremely cold. Your problem is likely stemming from your flat feet and uneven hips and works up to then make your shoulders uneven, etc. No doubt you have a structure that's problematic, but I think you can improve like me. We should talk some time

  • @BipolarBilly52

    @BipolarBilly52

    @Gpavv Big thing is to be highly calculated in your physical therapy. You should be seeing someone and be willing to literally work with 1lb external rotations and build up. For me, I noticed the serratus anterior is incredibly important, which is something most physical therapists ignore. The cookie cutter advice of do rows and external rotations is okay, but a function of the rhomboids is actually to downwardly rotate the scapula, which would further pinch things if it's not paired with enough serratus work. Lower traps are incredibly important. Doing Y raises off the side of your bed with literally no weight is a great place to start. Also muscle relaxers. You'll have to continually be doing flosses for your nerves and stretching your pecs, lats, and Upped traps. I used to think stretching made things worse because it felt loose, but if you gain enough strength in your stabilizers then pec stretches will actually provide relief. Huge information dump, but there's a lot too this. Lmk if u need more details/guidance on getting help. This is a work in progress
