Online Poker for Americans

Ойындар

Today, I want to answer all of the questions I've recently received about online poker in America. I'll let you know all of the risks that come with playing and convince you to only use these sites to practice for live poker. I am a long time TCG player. I've been playing TCGs all of my life. I started playing Poker due to other card games like MTG and so on just being too expensive to stay relevant in, while not having a good enough pay off in comparison to all you invest in it. I'm really enjoying Poker, but the fact that there really aren't any good sites to play on, especially in today's digital world, coupled with the general shadiness of it all, is disheartening.

I am rec player that has played in what is now Ignition for about 10 years. I loved when it went anonymous and that is main reason I play exclusively on Ignition. Initial deposit was $100, I have cashed out about 5 times for average $600 (last time for $800). I enjoyed the video, I need the reminder to not leave too much money on Ignition as I have become complacent since they have been very reliable with payouts. My current policy is to keep minimum $400 bankroll, cash out $800 when I reach $1200, I would have liked to seen a brief discussion on huds, pros and cons. I have never used a hud, but wonder how much it would help to evaluate my play.

Curious if you still rank ignition/bovada as the one you would recommend the most out of the bad options. Have your opinions changed on global poker or acr? I know they all have the risks mentioned here still. Just trying to make the best of a bad situation as I currently live in Texas and travel full time so need a way to play regularly regardless of where I am.

Hi Jonathan- You indicated that what is illegal is sending $$ to a website for the purposes of playing poker or presumably other online gaming pursuits. For clarification, as I recall it is not illegal for individuals or players to transfer money to offshore gaming sites, we initiate requests and of course we can’t move the money without help. It is illegal for the financial institutions to do the transfer. This is from my memory from my long ago abandoned online gaming pursuits- the FEDGOV legal exposure rests solely on whatever bank or financial institution that facilitates the moving of the money. Just wanted to clarify for anyone watching, you aren’t risking prosecution or anything by initiating a transfer to or from online poker sites or casinos or whatever. I did continue to do this for awhile after it was shut down but the hassle and risk of not being paid in the event I won outweighed the upside for me. I recall never fearing prosecution because I didn’t have any legal liability but banks sure clamped down and it just took too many contortions and hassle even to deal with offshore sites I had reason to trust, thankfully never once was burned. I wouldn’t advise it but thought this clarification was worth mentioning. Thanks much for all you provide for all of us.

Living in Vegas,I play regularly on the WSOP site in Nevada. Every month, I pull my winnings out of my WSOP bankroll via bank transfer... no problems. The only thing I don't like is that a HUD is not allowed in Nevada... I used one seemingly forever on Poker Stars before Black Friday. Since players from New Jersey can play on the site too, it is irritating that they CAN use a HUD... I don't know if it works, but suspect it does on the Nevada site.

The average person might play poker at a casino since they are there, why not. Also, the average person probably will not take the time nor risk of playing online. When you play online, you play much much more hands and get much more experience. Plying live poker takes more time. The dealer needs to shuffle the cards every single time and online it’s, well, kinda automatic.

  • @AltCTRLF8

@@DanielVargas-tt9ch poker isn’t one of those games at the casino that someone can quickly jump into like slots or blackjack. oftentimes there’s a wait list for especially for lower limits tables. also, live and physical tells are more significant than online tells. lastly it’s a lot easier to leave a table and switch to another if you find yourself outmatched at a live table.

However, I've consistently sat at ACR in fairly low stake 6 max games, only to later learn that ALL of the other 5 players are bots, colluders AND both--then they are in fact rigged. The problem is that ACR may be "innocent" but PROFIT from bad people. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Probably the best video I've seen on internet poker. Because you gave the best warning about not trusting internet poker sites. I've never played on the so called lagitament sites. I've played on 4 sites and they all have crooked software. Now you could make the argument that I'm not that good. True I'm not. But I still know a crooked software when I see one. I played on pureplay my first tournament I won a tournament with 300 people. My friend is the worst poker player in the world and won after 5 tries. So what's my point. The legit sites can't stand it if they think they can make more money with software that let's people win in the beginning. There just greedy. Full Tilt was making millions off the rake but they still wanted to steal. Nobody regulates the software. Nobody regulates the sites. My guess is you can't trust any internet site.

@Mikie Jones I have never used huds, but I understand the concept. I have seen players post in chatrooms that some huds work on ignition, but they are of limited value because players are anonymous. I also saw in some forums that some regulars were outraged when the site first went anonymous because they used huds and they lost their big edge. The main reason I play exclusively on Ignition is because anonymous players means playing against pros is extremely unlikely if you stick to low stakes. I am a rec player who started with $100 when the site was Bodog, have cashed out about 5 times for average $500 and have never deposited. I play for fun and my trajectory has not always been straight up, but its a great way to learn how to play while earning a little spending money.

I am not sure what specifically you are referring to. He is completely incorrect about the legality of running unlicensed/unregulated games in America. The only question is if the US government will do anything about it, and who they will go after. My insider info tells me that if they do anything, the people in Costa Rica are impossible to touch, but any representative/sponsored players in America are fair game to be prosecuted. Feel free to ask questions.

You play many more hands, resulting in the winners and losers being much more clear, resulting in the losers quitting, making the lesser "winning" players become losers, etc. This happens exponentially due to being able to play 8x hands per hour or so, resulting in online being much more difficult.

I don't think that playing online poker would teach you how to play live poker! The two methods are planets apart... It would, however teach you the poker structure... Online poker is seriously flawed in the first place... How do I know this? I tried to set up and run my own poker site... Right from the very start of designing and constructing poker software, it is impossible for it not to be seriously flawed! RNG does not exist, cannot be done within poker software... What would be more truthful is to call it CSP... "Card selection process" Apart from the fact that any so called RNG is gated to 52 cards! I learnt very early on in my online poker hobby that AAAA beaten on the river with a royal flush was a billions to one shot! Something was very wrong ... Take no notice of sites telling you we deal millions of hands a day... Odds and percentages remain the same, new table, new deck... Has nothing to do with the other tables that are playing... I could say much more but, here are a few fundamental thoughts for you to chew over! Play online poker by all means, but be very prepared to be ripped off or scammed... One other thing guys... Ever heard the guy that have said "Iv'e won thousands and cashed out thousand of dollars" ... Well this may well be true, and if it is true, Then many thousands of dollars have been lost by other players... Are you one of those players that lost? Enter a tournament with, say, a thousand runners, then your odds of winning are 1000/1... would you bet on a horse winning at a 1000/1 shot? Anyway... Play, but be very careful guys... Frank...
