I know we can see the cards but this is a fold. AQ is only a bluffcatcher on that board and garrett is smart enough to know he has at least an Ace there. Doubt hed try to bluff him in this spot

thought airball had it there especially for half pot, but he is easily capable of having dust there. This is another reason to check back turn, loses a lot less that way.

Would it be bad to bet around pot or over on the river if you’re Brad? It doesn’t induce any bluffs but if ur opponent has full house or nut flush then they still probably raise, and maybe you get some sort of top pair hero call or bluff catcher out of Mariano

Wow, this helped a lot.. In a 6 month down swing and was starting to feel sorry for myself but this reminded me that it doesn’t matter how well I play, I don’t deserve the win. Thank you!🙏🏽

He could have very very easily had a pair of 5s and she would have gladly bet into him the same exact way. She didn't even consider that, as she was dead set on bullying through. Good for him!

Jonathan, out of curiosity - what do you think is the future of online poker? with the drastic increase in AI and processing, people can just set up cameras that scan their screens and tell the player what to do - without poker rooms being able to track that behaviour.

It's possible to fold a set. To say never fold a set is ignorant. Also, folding pairs to every Cbet on the flop is not a +EV play either. If you called with your pair to set mine, and the flop brings all overs, and your opponent Cbets, then your fold or call should depend on your knowledge of your opponents Cbet frequency, their expected range, and what is on the board. There are probably more than 30% of times you should either call or raise your opponent's Cbet. Again, raising is very opponent dependent, I.E. what do you think their fold frequency is, and does the board provide added fold equity to the play.

Arghh you distracted me with the no capture rooks idea. On my to do list to modify a chess engine with this rule and see how I'd fair with it set on God level. Tbh I'd fancy my chances against even Magnus with him crippled like this. It would be a race to get my castles in the game, surely a line where you just push the rook pawns up the board would be hard to beat?

Man, did you just light my fire. I know this is what I'm supposed to be doing because I do at a low frequency, but now I'm going to increase my frequency. Thanks, Jonathan. I'm not going to be a maniac, but I definitely comprehend what you're saying.

"Our range is more nut heavy but a little bit weaker" at 11:58. This is confusing to me, how is our range weaker but at the same time more nut heavy? Doesn't nut heavy mean our range is more likely to have hands containing and/or blocking the nuts?

I was going to say Playing suited connectors when your not very deep. They lose a lot of value when stacks aren't deep. The implied odds are where suited connectors get a TON of value. Also I love playing med-low suited connectors vs aggressive opponents. When they raise PF I just call. Then if I connect well with the flop. I play them according to how I think my opponent will react. I've stacked a lot of people playing hands like 65s or T9s.

Partially agree with your opinion on satellites. I play 4 of them max on one screen and 6 tournaments on another screen. Sats are tight survival mode, wait for opportunities and don't move into flips or speculative hands, especially when i have a decent stack built. In tournaments it's a more aggressive style poker where you need to take risks to build your stack to run deep. If you can't make the distinction in playing styles(when playing) then you should definitely just play tournaments.

watched this video, and for the first time in ages made it to the final table. Didn't realize how tight of a player I was. just a few well timed bluffs and 3 bets (and some luck at showdowns) and it was surprisingly successful. Thanks!

In theory it’s all fine. In practice certain things tend to bother me. The repetition on a short period of time of some specific unavoidable situations. 3 tournaments 2 different sites, across 4 hours, 6 times KK lost 3 times against AA, once against AKo and twice against AJo. Twice on the bubble. After this spitfire run, I have to silently scream and softly violently bang my desk and curse with nice words all the gods and people. The sharkscope and huds made it worse since I can see that every single time I lost against loosing fishes. Still picking myself up, study a little more and move on hoping one day the starts will align for me as they align forever these losing fishes :)

Johnathan, these charts are handy but unrealistic to use. How can anyone remember 80+ different charts? Each spot vs the other. When you add in the post flop and preflop you're adding another 150+ charts.

I think a lot of us recognize bad variance but attribute good variance to skill. This past weekend I experienced extremely good variance when I got to a final table with almost no chips, was all-in a dozen times, and survived them all. It was ridiculous. I “should” have been out 10th. I ended up finishing 3rd. If you recognize it goes both ways, the downswings are much easier.

You have 15% premium hands then you need roughly 30% draws right? There’s a slide towards the end where hero has 17% premium hands but Jonathan says you can have max 25% draws in this spot… why wouldn’t we want more draw in our range then for the 1:2 ratio?

Nik normally likes to apply max pressure with his bluffs with overbets. I don't think he would take this line and only leave half pot bluff at the end. Looks very value heavy. Very hard to get away from vs airball, but that's what you get for bloating the pot
