Lol so true, I did everything right. I set a schedule, set goals, prepared a specific place to learn and for 3 weeks I was exactly on target. But then I began to slip, cousin came over to visit so I missed a day, got a headache so I missed another day, then I was frustrated that I was 2 days behind so I missed a 3rd day and it kept on getting worse.

Lot's of people are staying at home or off campus this tear so I think that already helps reduce cost. Aside from that I guess it is true that the operation budget of universities should be a lot less since there's no events to hold and less staff necessary. I get that most people don't sign up for college just to end up having online school, but maybe they could take a gap year or some alternative instead

Online doesn’t mean the teachers are working less, or tutors are working less, marking assignments working less, and all the people working behind the scenes being paid remotely, aren’t working less... all this would do is give universities permission to cut costs, which means cutting staff. Let’s not deprive people of jobs.

Tip adding to your "breaking up the day": do housechores as study breaks. I always clean the house when I'm tired from working in front of my screen. Wiping the walls, greasing the sofas, and washing the carpets can be a real workout and you'll feel more productive than just walking up and down the stairs.

Online classes are a double edged sword: It is convenient to attend them from home but it is so easy to get distracted. I'm just hoping that libraries are open again next semester. I found out that it is super hard for me to get to work on things when I basically don't really leave my home. And I only have 1 room + the bathroom so I can't even go to another room. And because I don't really leave my room much, I kinda loose my sense of time and get up at around 10am. It sucks. I want to change this. Breaking up my day is a great start.

For isolation, I play Study With Me youtube videos which essentially mimic the silent study companionship or "work calls" without having your Webcam on (for those who are anxious about being on conference video). The ASMR of Study With Me videos can be really helpful for me, especially if the videos were filmed in a library or cafe, which I LOVE working in, but can't go to right now. So a KZread video of someone studying can be really helpful to play while studying and working to promote focus and productivity. :)

Super important point about online classes, especially if you're starting a new program/course and haven't met (and won't meet) any of your new classmates in real life: **It is really, really lonely.** Making connections, both social and academic, with your classmates and the faculty is going to be *super* hard. Especially for students in transition periods, this disconnect could potentially lead to a much higher dropout rate than normal. Make an effort to connect with your classmates! Find them on social media and make a group where you can share your notes and post memes, play some Jackbox games or something with them, anything you can think of. You aren't going to get any freebie social interaction this semester between classes (or heck, in class). *You* have to make the effort to get to feel like you belong in your course, because you do.

I do almost everything you say, even taking notes on Notion and having folders in folders per class. And it was going alright for me even though I was self-quarantined for 14 days, communicating with nobody physically. Now, everything is falling apart. I feel like I'm sitting on the desk for the whole day and end up nothing achieved. I don't even remember what we did during the last session and I start forgetting about the assignments even though I stick notes everywhere and set alarms for everything... I think I'll try to watch online classes outside maybe sitting in a cafe or somewhere quiet and healthy. Or I'll end up doing nothing but sitting at the same spot for the entire day... And study groups sound fun! I'll try and find people who may wanna join. Thanks for the advice!

how do you manage to keep your sense of time, for me i have been stuck in lockdown for over 5 months. i feel like i have lost all structure in my day, and just feel aimless, time just blends into itself, and it can be really hard to stay motivated to do anything. even when i sit down to study, it just feels like an endless blur of study time, everyday when i wake up in the same tiny room, and sit at the same desk, it just feels like and endless expanse of time, without any direction or structure to guide me, or keep my focused on a goal.

  • @shaddjimenez4524

Live The Future This will sound weird, and I’m trying different methods because there’s some problems with it. However, it worked for me over quarantine. Alarms on my phone. Instead of a calendar where it’s an abstract time structure that could be lenient, I wanted something that forced structure into my day when in quarantine. So I plan out my entire day with alarms, and it’s obviously a lot harder to ignore even if you’re in a rut. Like I said before though, it being on my phone is problematic because having a phone while working is asking to be distracted. However, alarms did force a sense of urgency and a sense of time, and I feel I get more work done. When you hear your alarm in the morning, whether you roll out of bed or jump out, you always get up to at least hit snooze. It’s a lot harder to lose structure in your day. This only worked for me and I’ve never heard of this method anywhere else, but keep trying different methods to get your sense of time back.
