Those pesky flys ! We literally just had the same experience, so for me next year every onion, garlic 🧄 & leek in covered up & so are my brassicas this year because I can’t hand 🖐 pick the eggs & hundreds of thousands of caterpillars 🐛 🐛 🐛 🐛 this year 😅! Good luck 😁👍🏼

In the end i figured it out i used few fly traps around and in middle of onion beds and cut 95% of flies no onion damage detected after two month i think i got it .

Interesting, did you use yellow stick traps or just the sticky ones.

Can we use BT soaked into the soil?

There is a type of BT that works on grubs so check the type for grub control.

Tried the fabric, and it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

They often will perpetuate in the soil near by so rotate the crop to other spots each year and use a good insect screen. Keep them contained under the screen without holes where they can get in and dont open it until harvest just water through the screen.

Sygenta-Eforia or Bayer-Hunter can solve that problems ;)
