I've been listening to k-pop for ten years and have come to know great singers through Immortal Songs 2, nevertheless, Onew is still my favorite singer. I could listen to him all day. When I listen to him, I feel something melting within me. His voice cracks at times, and his technique needs a lot of improvement. He needs to avoid straining his vocal chords, and take good care of them so that he can continue melting me with his effortless emotion, which I believe is a gift many far superior singers lack. Thank you for the time and effort you have put in assembling these videos and analysis.

Onew received treatment for a vocal polyp something and it seems like he can now comfortably sing without straining his voice. Someone from his company also said that his vocal range got wider because of this. I am hoping for an updated vocal range compilation of his after their comeback :) Thanks!

Remielle Sy If he does showcase more range and if he does indeed have improved technique, then everything shall be updated. As in both his vocal analysis and his vocal range, although I highly doubt he will mix higher than C5/C#5, sing lower than G2 and head voice higher than Bb5. They always say things like that when people practice or get surgery, it doesn't always mean much. I do hope he will be able to improve his technique, since I love Onew.

Yeah I really do pray that he got better and improve his singing skills. I'm very worried before that the surgery might affect his beautiful voice, hopefully not, though, since I don't want Onew's voice to be ruined :) Anyways, thanks for this video :)

KitsuneMale (KpopVocalAnalysis) I believe he has improved his technique (2017 now and I listen to more recent performances) and his singing has become cleaner and less strain on his vocal chords but his range hasn't changed I believe. Just effortless singing which is healthier. :)

Onew's vocal technique/skills is not the best compared to other vocalists but surely his voice is soooo beautiful.. tbh, i prefer his voice compared to someone with better techniques. Onew's voice color is the most beautiful thing i've ever heard..

he does have good technique tho, he supports his head voice up to e5 which is very impressive for a tenor imo

I don't know atbt this terms but all I can say is that Jinki has one of the most rich and unique voice ever. Everyone has their own preference abt who sing better or not but for me, the one who sings effortlessly no matter how high the song is, is the better XD

Ikr, omg I love his voice and I feel he is so underrated compared to other singers or even Jonghyun....when his voice itself has a lot more color... :3

I like his voice very much, he reminds me of Daesung a bit(they even look a bit similar?). I just have a hard time liking the songs that he sings in. I like him in Rock of Ages quite a lot though; strained or not, he sounds godly. Anyway, nice video.

It seems to me F#5 and above are more like mixed voice. I don't know since my music knowledge is limited but after listening to them several times, they sound more like mixed voices. However, this is a good showcase of Onew's vocal :)

No doubt, his technique is different compared to Jjong, Jjong has a stable range throughout but his mix can be very pushed, and Onew's is just pushed all the way, but his lower range is just a bit too.....thin, however I find that his G#2 was actually quite good, so his tessitura can be that low, or Bb2, somewhere lower can be a problem, I think G#2 or Bb2 to Bb4 and depending on the day a lil higher or lower lol

Awesome video :) He does have a good voice. It's just that his technique needs work. Judging from this video, I think his tessitura lies somewhere from 3rd octave to 4th, like C3-B4, lol idk. The heady mixed notes (above F#5) are quite messy and unstable though.

It's actually a head voice with a hard onset that he uses to push his voice out, so he can go that high, it's rather unhealthy actually, but it'd be hard for him to sing head until F#5 then go back to mix ....mix shouldn't have that gap, I also wondered if when I went that high, I was using mix, but it's not using enough chest voice muscles for that to be the case and thank you :3

lol I can't speak chinese at all, so his accent doesn't bother me since I love his voice lol but I feel your pain, I can at least hear their accent when singing in japanese and in english, it's actually quite bothersome, they sometimes are so strong it's hard to understand why....it's like SunYe in English, and even BoA has an accent in japanese even after all these years! I hope you didn't take my first message offensively. Also I hope you don't really believe I judge someone based on their vocal range, because if so then I'd consider Onew to be great because he has a 3.2 vocal range. I rely on what a vocalist is capable of to judge them precisely, straining, their intonation, their skills in musicality and musicianship. Emotions is something not everybody feels, it's subjective because not everybody will get the same emotion from the same singer.

I think D3 suit his voice very well.

KitsuneMale to be honest, i guessed those are notes, it was logical, but i don't know anything else (what each of them represents etc etc). and i wasn't just being sweet. in order to do this video, you had to listen to many songs, to choose the proper parts of the songs, then to make the video itself. it's been a long process, that's for sure. and very kind of you to answer! PS: did you take music classes or studied any instrument? just being curious, hope u don't mind it.

cucu cu It literally represents a note, I mean the G2 is a G2, it's in the line of the song he's singing, in one of those lines he hits a G, Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do, C D E F G A B C, he hits a G/Sol on the second octave of the piano up to a Bb/Sib (which means B flat # = sharp) on the fifth octave of the piano~ Awww no I mean it'd be faster if I did a live version video lol I didn't know that till I did my Park Bom vocal analysis video~ It was indeed long so thank you! Awww well if you were to look at my other videos, you would see me singing lol Of course, only if you're interested.
