I think its bcos Onew himself does not assert his vocal abilities even if he is gifted with exceptional vocal color. In SHINee, jonghyun holds the main vocal position, and onew used to say he couldnt hit the high notes thats supposed to be jonghyun's in why so serious era. I think he can he was just being humble. Now due to jjong's absence, onew has to fill in that role of being the main vocal

@@amagudgurl1000 its universally agreed that jjong has the widest range in shinee - and onew actually couldn't hit as high notes in his chest/mix as jjong (to clarify onew can hit high notes but he flips to falsetto at a lower point than what jjong would need to. which is why i would guess taemin would cover jjongs high notes because they are more in his range - regardless jjongs vocal lines are incredibly difficult anyway). which is why before don't call me came out and him and taem mentioned taking vocal lessons - It was one of the things he mentioned that he wanted to work on. AND BOY DID IT PAY OFF he sounds even better than before (who knew it was possible?!). oh and i agree he both has pride and super humble about his vocal abilities though the entire industry respects his vocal ability and colour (if i got an rnb vibe vocal album from onew i would melt into a puddle)

Same with Exo Chen. Sadly the good singers are always underrated will not be appreciated like they deserve it. Music industry is all about selling yourself good so people with colorful personality get more famous than good voices🤷‍♀️

And that's what makes SHINee so unique. You can easily distinguish their voices. Each member's voice is different and unique. I tried listening to other groups but I can boldly say there's none compared to them.

It's funny you say that. Once I was watching kpop fails or something and one part wad onew having his voice crack while trying to do high notes, the next video I watched was longest notes by kpop idols, while watching it I guess a few members if shinee will make the list but there's no way onew is on this list....... he ends up being number one by a long shot, I think he held the note for like a minute or longer. But yep, never doubted him after that.

I so agree with you. Onew's voice is one of my favorites in the entirety of K-Pop, and there's so many more with great talent. When Onew sings, my heart just opens up. He seems to be a very kind person, as well.

It's just like when Minho drop "I'm home" and people out there start saying that "oh!The boy can sing" or "He has a good voice!" I mean... did they ever listen, really listen, to SHINee songs or what?

Don't worry. There's hope. I discovered SHINee and how amazing they all are thru Taemin. What he said in previous interview about his solo being one of the ways to introduce SHINee to new fans are working. I know of many who became fans thru Taemin's solo work. Same with Jonghyun, Key, Onew and Minho. Each of them bring new Shawols with their solo activities.

@@teresahowells4879 Thank you. I found Taemin last year thru a reaction video. It just took one video to make me searched for all his works. I wasn't planning to follow SHINee too, but I love music and SHINee for me has the best music that I've heard so far in KPop. I honestly can't believe that I'll be a 2-year old Shawol next April :) They make me happy. Love everything about them!

Fun fact, he had to relearn how to sing (somewhere between 2014-2016 can’t remember) due to having a vocal chord issue where he had to have surgery. There was only a 50% chance he would get his voice back and even then the chances of getting back up to how it was was little. I’m glad he’s beaten the odds! Rainy blue was actually written by a man who had the same condition as onew but never recovered his voice, the reason he cried during the performance was because he could sing again!

I'm not even a Shawol but Oh my god. The moment I heard his voice in "Don't Call me" I absoluetly had to listen more to his voice... And Now I can affirm that for me his vocals are clearly at another level. I listen to a lot of different groups (not stanning them) but his voice is truly the best. He's incredible.

Onew can sing in a chorus and I will still recognise his voice. His voice is so unique and easy to spot. His voice is relaxing and powerful depending on how he controls it. He’s like Taeyeon, both experts in control and emotions. Ugh I miss him singing!

A few months ago, I came across Onew's "Blue." I didn't know who he was or what he was saying, but I felt every bit of emotion that he was expressing. Then I found "Rainy Blue" and his duet with Jonghyun "Please Don't Go." Wow. I bought his "Voice" album that day. I hope there is more to come from him. Happy birthday, gentle Onew!

It's 2024 now and before 2023 ends onew's full album rank 1st in billboard Korea top 25 kpop album 2023.. I was crying while reading the article. And so thankful to billboard for recognizing quality over popular artist..

The Nessun Dorma opera stage got me in tears. I've been a classical musician for 9 years and a kpop stan for 2 and my worlds clashed. He has one of the smoothest, softest vocal tones I've ever heard and is my favourite vocalist in SHINee.

Onew’s vocals and how he controls the notes is absolutely phenomenal a truly talented singer I Iove his voice it’s so unique 💎💙

I’m gonna hurt some feelings but ONEW is the most powerful vocalist in Kpop HISTORY. Period. No one will ever get on his level or hit his bars. It’s the way it is and will always be

Strangely enough, people always associate SHINee main vocalist as Jonghyun. No diss to him, but it's sad that Onew is not put on the same sentence, while in actuality both vocalists are very much on the same level.

@@kamuigrey4597 agree! I always picked them both as equals. In fact when I heard Lucifer (which was my 1st SHINee song) I thought Onew had the most unique & strong vocal! I love JJong & his voice. But Onew is also the Lead Vocal of SHINee not just Jonghyun. I don’t want anyone to think Onew’s the lead vocal now he’s gone. He was the leader & the lead vocal always.

Dear new ppl, Onew is NOT underrated, he was the most hyped up vocal in the early years and the most popular member prior to Move/Super M. He had the most solo gigs with variety appearances and musicals, but then he decided to take it easier on himself. He works when he wants, he's not about fame for fame's sake. He released his solo under his own conditions, and was even allowed to not promote it cos he didnt want to. Hope that clears things up💚💎

He became quiet, head down, little interaction w the other members, also the rumors.. He bounced back in 2013 and did a series, and was supposed to do a musical, but then the surgery.. Anyway, he's a senior artist now - he can do what he likes. And his fans are faithful. The most important thing for me is his mental state💚

The second clip is just beyond amazing having to move from one scale then to another. It shows so much discipline and control. Both Jonghyun and Onew are amazing and it shows how comfortable they are together.

I had been clueless for more than 10 years as not knowing the one who sang the first verse for stand by me is actually onew. I actually fall in love with that voice since 2010 but never for once I search for that voice until I come across with their live singing that song💆

I want to say THANK YOUx100000000 to you to make a video like that. I'm so tired of people just making videos about how cute he is or his condition or him being a meme or whatever and that makes me feel sad because yes he is cute but there are plenty of images of him being sexy as fuck and nobody is talking about it, and yes he had some moments but he is capble of spining anything using one finger, his takkbam is a killer and he use to be the clever one in Shows like Star Bell (craking the jokes, being funny as hell, being savage, being the one who knows all the answers). I mean I don't know when exactly people started to distort his image and turning him as a simple cutie, dumbfunded old man, wich is exactly the exactly oposite that I think about him. I don't know about other Shawols but I love all the members and truly admire them as the brilliant artists that they are. I love all their voice colors, all five of them. Yes they're cute and funny but I became a fan because I was so impressed with their live singing and beautiful choreography. I fell in love with their music.

I loved Kpop because of of Jonghyun and then I found out Onew's voice and now 10 years has passed with kpop. And my fav Onew song is in your eyes I really love this song and that drama.

Jinki, I will always recognize your voice in a heartbeat...anytime anywhere ♡

Onew sits on a very small list of singers who hold a note and for him a high note can be hit for the 45 seconds. NOT ONE OTHER KPOP SINGER SITS ON THE LIST.

his lower register is severely under-utilised 😭 his upper register is beautiful but bc the key in shinee music is always so high we miss out on hearing more of his honey timbre. i hope one day he can release r&b or jazz songs that could highlight this more 💕

Thank you for this compilation. I started watching SHINee just recently, and im really attracted to Onew's vocal tone, and also his personality. He is very lowkey and humble. shinee NEVER gets the respect they deserve when it comes to their vocalists. Four of its members are superb main vocalists level and Minho could be a great lead vocalist everywhere else, he is the backbone of the low notes of the group.

Onew's vocals can singlehandedly make me cry and scream with excitement at the drop of a hat. I still am blown away by his Opera performance each time. It shows how versatile he is but still manages to keep his voice as his own.

This is one of the many reason why Jinki have a special place in my heart for 10 years even though it's very impossible to have a bias in almost evey kpop group specially SHINee,

My favorite voice in kpop. Obviously followed by the rest of SHINee (his just happens to be a tiny bit more of my fave lol) but in all honesty, I find his vocal tone to be soothing. It's not just unique, but he's able to do such a good job at relying the emotion needed for each of the songs he sings. He makes you feel them and that is something many vocalist lack that Onew is so good at.
