Want to see the guts of the brand new OnePlus 3 android smartphone? Lets open it up. This phone is surprisingly easy to open. There is no glue, so you wont need a heat gun. Just a screwdriver with a small Philips head and a T2 head. Once the One Plus 3 is opened up, almost everything inside can be replaced. The phone is pretty modular. The USB C charging port can be swapped out, along with the black battery (Its not red :-( sad day.)
The 16mp rear camera and the 8mp front camera can be replaced as well. The SIM card tray can not be replaced. That is soldered onto the main board.

I own oneplus 3, but sadly already cracked the screen. Slipped out of my pocket. It wasn't that big of an impact and the screen is now KO. It cracked in two places. All that with original case and screen protector. So be careful, its quite easy to damage it. Luckily, OnePlus charged me just 90 Euro for screen replacement with labour, DHL express shipping and everything else included. Not that bad considering new screen alone is selling for 115 Euro on ebay.

The problem is though that I bought it from a third party retailer, so I will have to send it to the retailer, who then contacts OnePlus, yadda yadda yadda and it will be a pain in the ass. I need to get my phone fixed though, I have spiderwebs covering up 50% of the screen, so it is very difficult to read text etc. I guess I'll just have to fork out the cash to pay for it...

Very interesting design compared to the previous phones. Especially all(most) of the components connected to the screen portion leaving the aluminum mostly bare. Also like how the charging is very easy to remove. Great detailed video, as usual. Can't wait for the phone in the video to arrive at my door step ;) and if anything goes wrong I can refer to this video.

Thx for the video. This is a major reason for me to buy this phone. I can repair most parts by my self. Replacing the battery is very easy!

That thing you said about corrosion on the physical button pads or in the buttons themselves caused by water just happened to me. After 2 years of ownership, the vol buttons started to work half the time and a year later I replaced them. Even though my phone has never been around water to my knowledge, I saw some stains that water leaves behind when evaporates around the buttons and especially the sim card tray inside the phone when I opened it. Most likely normal daily usage results in that because of environmental humidity, human sweat etc. So what you suggested is a very likely scenario for the 3T. Despite this, I am glad though that the phone isn't waterproof as it is very easy to repair.

I completely agree on the nice touch a little color gives, even if it's just on the inside. That's one of the charms I liked about BlackBerry phones. Made all those necessary battery pulls exciting lolol. They upped the ante when they started adding different colors to the labels under the battery covers a few years ago. Like the Bold 9900 had an orange sim tray, I believe? And the battery had a bright green stripe. It was the equivalent to wearing neon underwear under a business suit, I loved it haha

Thanks for this video! I am upset that so few manufacturers have replaceable batteries these days. It is not so much the convenience in going from 0 to 100% charge in seconds by swapping the battery (although that is nice), but more being able to increase longevity when the battery capacity decreases in a year or two. This video shows that it only takes about 5 minutes to do this. That combined with an unlockable bootloader and good support on XDA means I will be placing an order for a OP3T the day it is released.

Hi Jerry, thumbs up for the video. I've got one question, explain me a bit more on the replacement of the front glass panel. (at 3.24 you mention that replacing would kill the screen) Let me explain it a bit more in case you need. I got my glass cracked but the screen and all touch functions work totally fine. If the broken glass parts are removed from the screen can I replace it with a OEM Front Glass Panel without damaging the digitizer and crucial parts of the screen ? Thanks.

Zack, Thank You for the awesome review of yours ! For me personally is much more important the internal design, "Functionality" placement of the buttons and est., than the look. So obviously OnePlus have done their job again. I'm sorry for colorless battery too. After your Teardown, it's a "Must have situation" ! Appreciate your work :-) Tank you again, Zack.

This is really interesting to see how easy it is to easily separate the back panel from all the other parts of the phone... Makes it really easy to safely do a full respray, whereas on my iPhone 5 it took me about an hour to take it apart without breaking anything (we aren't all as quick as you :P)
