It's a lot less than I expected, but I think it's more about how difficult it is to grow a channel rather than the amount you get paid per view. The best example is the daily videos you did - I expected the growth to continue a lot longer after that, and not decline so rapidly. I suppose I expected the passive effect to be greater. Very interesting video as always. Hopefully you can hit 100k subscribers next year :)

More than I expected to be honest, especially in the early days. We have KZread Premium so we don't see the ads, not sure how that works for channels. Happy to donate a few quid every so often, its just payment for good content! Started following you when you were in Ireland.

I've followed you since you reached Ireland & binge watched all your Scotland videos at that same time for double bubble and I've been hooked ever since! You should never feel guilty for making money on KZread and putting mid roll ads. You bring so much joy to your viewers, I guarantee none of your subscribers mind a mid roll ad. It’s a strange thing I felt exactly the same with my videos when I first started putting mid roll ads.

You're right, don't get caught up in all of the analytics, although sometimes it's really hard not to when the video you just spent a week on putting together is ranking #10 out of the last 10 videos uploaded. Great summary Tom, glad to see you're making it work so well although I can imagine the budget is pretty tight. I think you're right not to worry too much about future financial requirements at the moment, sure saving and investing for the future is great for those who can afford it but seeing how hard you guys are prepared to work, and clearly how bright and capable you both are, there will always be good earning opportunities out there for you you if and when you decide to make earning big money a priority. In the meantime keep enjoying the travelling and each others company and thanks for sharing some of it 👍

Well done on being totally transparent about your earnings as a KZreadr. It's something I, and I'm sure others wondered about, and I don't know anyone else that has been this up front about KZread earnings.... Bravo 👏👏. Hopefully your income can grow exponentially. Btw, I do think you should be more up front and regular in advertising where subscribers can donate to help you. It's because they like you, that they want to help you. So there is no need to feel guilty or embarrassed. Simples 😊.

I’m looking at starting up making some content myself, so this was super helpful. For me the channels I subscribe to are because I feel they’re authentic, the people are the real reason I watch, the destinations help, but the natural enthusiasm always shines through! I also think being a couple helps, I personally like the dynamic of a couple travellling and experiencing this type of life together, looking at my subscriptions (yours included!) there are 10 out of 22 channels that are travelling couples. Well done with your content and keep up the good work!

Thank you. Yeah I agree travel is a backdrop for the human interactions. I think being in a couple has it’s advantages, but also makes it harder if you have a vision of how you want a video to be ext. it is also harder to meet local people. The solo travellers I follow all tend to speak to locals more than the couples. Glad you’re enjoying the videos, and good luck with your channel

Thank you. This was informing. I also like your channel and videos in general. I got like 400 subscribers after I just put up a video of a band I like because of their great stage performance. (Think I had 60-70 subscriptions originally.) I’m a musician myself (or use to be) so have tried for 10-15 years to get people interested in what I do. Have made several different KZread channels for over a decade. Never been able to get more than like 20-40 subs on any of them before this happened. I don’t really know where to go from here or if I want/should. I can still play some songs and have been live-streaming from street gigs couple of times. But it’s been less views than my other channels with much less subs. I almost had a break in music over ten years ago and had a lot of eyes on me, but at that time people I knew, wasn’t on KZread. I think my music time is ending because my hearing is getting bad (hearing aid,) …so I think my KZread will be a little of this and a little of that. At the same time if I have had suddenly 400 subs like today ..5 or ten years ago, I would of course try to make something out of it.

Its amazing how much effort you have to put in to make a modest income. If in theory you ever reached a point where you exceed the UK personal tax allowance would a youtuber have to pay an income tax on earnings if based in the uk? I guess this doesn't apply if you don't spend the majority of your time in the UK? It would be a big consideration before starting youtube I think. Anyway, keep up the good work guys, love the channel and really appreciate all your hard work x

Everyone has to have a tax residence. So if they weren’t tax resident in the UK, they would be in another country where they would have the same issue of paying income tax.

I came on board the Transit bus in Ireland, I'm staying for the ride! There's plenty of time to get a full stamp in to get a state pension (think it's 37 years at the mo??) Likewise, plenty of time to do a 9-5 to tick the boxes if this journey runs the course. I think as long you're happy to share your lives with us and we watch, it'll work. Flip this on its head, if you were both back in Cornwall and had normo lives and rented a house, would you be much better off after all the bills. I've done a fag packet calculation and reckon not, so let's get on with the journey!

This was very interesting! I am curious……do you get income if only part of the mid video ad is watched? Or only if the entire ad is watched……I get very impatient with ads but sometimes I just let it run and it’s easy to get sucked in and start watching. If I had watched 50% of an ad, then I may as well watch it all, if I knew it was going to have a positive impact on the KZreadr.
