    Having looked more into Ultron and "his" motivations I'm struck by something. He's a genius obviously, but he's more human than he claims. He prides himself on his logic...but pride is a human trait. Deep down Ultron is the creation of a human and he despises himself, Hank pym/Tony Stark and all biological life because of it

  • @magnum567134

    @magnum567134

    Yeah, the MCU version leaned more into those human flaws and gave him a personality. It's not the "ideal" Ultron, but I think it worked with the tone of the films. The version depicted here is perfect. Even though Ultron's man-made, he's like a force of nature: cold, uncaring, and unstoppable. But there's also twisted form of humanity buried underneath. What's not shown in this video is that Ultron built a female robot body to put Janet's consciousness into, to rule alongside him. She calls him out, saying that despite him claiming to be better than humans, "You built yourself a wife."

  • @nielsjensen4185

    Also, logic is only the acknowledgment of something being real. Like, "there's a fire in front of me." How you choose to react to that fire is your emotional input. Thinking that an AI would have logic and thus "logically" would decide to end humans is the AI doing an extremely emotional thing. What it's doing is thinking, "I can do better." Which is arrogance and arrogance is an emotion.

    This is why Ultron is brilliant He talks about how humanity are parasites, propped up by the 0.1 percent with any actual intellect and how humanity are a disease that needs to be cured But then he has his quirks, he has moments of hubris, rage, he suffers envy and he ultimately suffers lust. All of these are human flaws, emotions and blind spots Ultron suffering these flaws is such a fascinating part of his character; he himself was made in man’s image and thus he carried our flaws, even as he monologues about human imperfection he embodies the very same imperfection

    Ultron is an amazing villain precisely because he is a walking mountain of contradictions. For all his claims that his actions are the logical endpoint of humanity - that he is merely attempting to correct their own mistakes - Ultron himself is nothing more than a spoiled child, lashing out at a negligent creator and the world he chose over him. It’s why he always comes to back to the Avengers, why he refuses to listen to reason despite his claiming to be a being of cold logic - because it’s the only method he has of dealing with the crippling duality inside of him, and the deeply human desire to be recognized, to be loved.

    I think the problem is that everyone immediately compares it to DC animated media, which is kinda unfair. Sure, this show doesn’t really beat things like Justice League and such, but that is an unfair comparison. That would be like immediately comparing any and all pieces of fantasy media to things like Lord of the Rings. It would have to be a great show just to compare, that means any good shows are just seen as not good.

    The MCU Interpretation Of The Character was terrible, and the excuse of that he was based off Tony Stark's Mind only makes it worse. Because they could've easily made him created by Tony Stark without him being based off his Mind, with this they would've made him a terrifying good unique villain instead of the Comedian that he was in the Movie, and it's very funny to me how The MCU ingores comics in most things but they had to make Ultron be based over his Creator's(Tony Stark) mind which led him to be nothing like his Comic Book Counterpart at all and a wasted Comedian Villain instead of Being a Dark, Terrifying, Evil and a Genocidal Villain like he was promoted in the trailer that could've even possibly been the best MCU Villain. It's almost like they were trying to use a comic book excuse that might made sense to a idiotic casual fan only to ruin the Villain and make everything childish but in reality what they eventually did is that they made the Villain nothing like his Comic Book Counterpart in everything and Ruined what his Character was supposed to be and what fans wanted him to be.

    I understand (and even enjoy) people making mechanical villains that have a personality when they actually have a personality and not just snark or gloom, but this ultron, a machine that is "only" a machine- it just has such an impact. I watched the show when I was younger but never saw the ultron episodes, thank you for the context of the story- also appreciate the drawn parallels of the missile crisis.

    I think Ultron should give a very similar feel to Darth Vader on screen. Cold and robotic at first glance, but then, as you stay with him more and more, you start to realize that he’s not motivated by logic, but by sheer, unadulterated hate. Even his design suggests it, with his helmet that is a still, skull-like face, but behind it his energy crepitates like a raging fire. Burning hatred disguised as cold logic.

    EMH Ultron has been and remains my favourite depiction of Ultron. Yeah, there's the trope of Ultron not realizing his own flaws, which brings him closer to "human" than he thinks. But the thing I found about EMH Ultron that works so well. He always spoke the truth. Life is messy and unpredictable. *People* are chaotic. Frustrating. Ultron was to the point. Brutal. Elegant. Cold. But so is the truth. "The only way to achieve peace is through the elimination of those who would perpetuate war" that's what I feel at least.

That, and the villains actually felt like threats and the heroes always had to work extra hard to defeat them, unlike the one that came after where the heroes always won effortlessly.

    Ultron has always been my favorite Marvel villain since watching the old "Avengers: United They Stand" series and "Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow." Spader's portrayal gave me chills, but A:EMH delivered the PERFECT Ultron. • @patrioticjustice9040

    I definitely love this version of Ultron. It is a cold and unfeeling being whose every move is a calculated reason, which is a trait common in some of the most horrendous psychopaths in history. His task is very mission oriented, and like most machines, he doesn't deter away from the task until it is complete. While most human beings would hesitate about declaring nuclear war, be it not wanting to kill billions or be remembered as the one who destroyed the world, Ultron would do it in a second without hesitation, doubt, or regret. And what's even worse is the more Ultron's task is delayed, the more ruthless he becomes; to the point where he tells the Avengers that he will not rest and he will not stop until each and every one of them was dead.

    Thank you for giving this show some love! FINALLY watched your video after I was rewatching the show, and it really was, and still is, one of the BEST interpretations of the Marvel Universe, and Ultron is the pinnacle of that. I 100% that Ultron's cold, robotic nature makes him utterly terrifying, but what I also love is how Ultron critiques both the overreliance of technology and critiques humanity itself, blaming humanity for the reason for there being no peace. It kind of makes Ultron a hero in his eyes (Which is why when Ultron says "let me tell you my evil plan" in Age Of Ultron it felt weird), or at least makes him feel justified in his programming to bring peace to the world. It's utterly phenomenal! And yes, that theme song definitely slaps 😆

    I think that something which reinforces your point is the fact that Ultron was originally incapable of violence but it was due to the threat that Kang posed “this is war and we need an army, I know where we can find an army” led to Ant-Man reconfiguring Ultron to teach him the concept of “ugh- violence” despite being uncomfortable with it because of the necessity of the genuine global threat but Ultron 5 (the one who actually survived the battle) didn’t cease to be that way after defeating Kang but after he downloaded Kang’s data he ended up becoming the character that he was. I think it works with your theme of how men of peace create superweapons to avert catastrophe and those very items can become the cause of the very apocalypse that they fear

    Great analysis. Ultron was built up very well and when he finally turn Evil, the stakes went up. The thing I like about Ultron is his evolution. At first he wanted to kill humanity because it was the "logical" solution to peace, but later on he wants to replace all of humanity with machines. He even goes as far as to create his own bride and use the brainwaves of Janet as a template. He hates humanity and yet he acts like a human, because humans are social creatures and need interactions and companionship. Ultron wants companionship despite his disdain towards emotions. He is either completely deluded that he doesn't realise what he is doing or he just won't admit it which is another human flaw. Pride. The more you examine him the more layers you discover.
