One Trick Pony

How to video on making a 3D wooden horse from my pattern.
I did the last cut wrong… Just before the last cut you can see me clearing out the material at the back inside neck of the horse. I usually then back the blade out, turn the horse around, back the blade back into the cut, and then cut my way out. I try to always cut, in such away as to not get my blade trapped behind loose material.

Thank You for letting us "look over your shoulder" while you were 'horsing around'. I have seen the results before, but never the process. You do cut a might fine horse (or unicorn, or whatever your imagination would wish. I appreciate the time and thought you used in doing the video. as a 'newby,' all the efforts of the many people that do the videowsis an enormous gift. thanks again...

Enjoyed your presentation, very artful and masterful pattern work with the saw., not breaking the blade...the thin side-pieces could be put on a board for decor a coat rack or towel or anything, children's furniture, a catchy phrase with the trick ponies for decoration...really liked the simplicity of technique, fun and rewarding...thx🖒👍

I saw you on LumberJocks! I have ordered the carter stabilizer guide and am happy to see it being used. I looks like it does well. On 3D patterns I sand my sides that are considered wastes and make 'fragile' hanging ornaments. Thanks for posting this video and sharing. ~Suzanne

Just got new band saw 14 inch bench top. I make toy lorries what a tool ! Brother that was a brilliant vid. A tadge advanced for me at present every time I use the saw I seem to discover and learn something Great fun. The grain on those horses at the end was brilliant, pine ? But what an item to make and take advantage such a pronounced grain. Thanks very much. Happy days.

Thank you, I tried the nails, liked the tape better. I couldn't stop at just 2 nails, and the doug fir grain would push the nails in the wrong direction. I ended up cutting through a few nails. They were soft nails from a small nail gun. So they really didn't do lot damage to the band saw blade. But they weren't good for it either.

Great video. I cut a few 3D items myself. I have never tried the tape method. I usually cut top to middle and than bottom to middle leaving a small but significant section uncut on the pattern, I do this for both sides. I then flip to the front patterns and cut all the way through. Once complete I take my cut offs realign and finish the small sections I left uncut. Not sure if that makes sense.

I can see where that might work better on some patterns. But I think everyone uses what works best for them. I started out using nails. Wasn't real happy with that. I saw some people in the scroll saw forms using packing tape. So I tried it and it works for me.
