One Tree Challenge: 7 inch Birch. Cordwood Challenge entry. How to cut firewood with axes.
Cordwood Challenge! I try out the mini challenge that appeals to me the most: felling, bucking, splitting and stacking a whole tree in one day! I chose a pretty small birch that was leaning, and I rarely fell larger trees than this for firewood anyway ... see how it went!

Yes, a bit, but not as much as I expected. Perhaps I’m starting to get used to the axe excercises.
Nicely done! It looks like the Calabria with the new handle did a very nice job and worked well in combination with the little splitting axe. Subbed to the new channel.

Thanks, great that you’re following me here as well. But don’t tell anyone about the worst felling cut and backcut of all times, please … I’ll do better in my next attempt. I watched you using the 2,5 pound Rinaldi America. It’s totally possible that I’ll get one myself, the 2 pound Calabria struggles on trunks larger than 5 inches … but with the new handle it’s great to work with.

Ha ha I attributed it to the awkwardness of trying to undercut under a leaning trunk but you made me go back and look at it. I liked that you switched your grip to try to make the slants line up, just have to get the back closer in height next time!@@myoutdoorways

I actually find it pretty easy to change between left and right. I can also use a hammer reasonably well with my left hand, although I wouldn’t trust it as much as my right one. My mistake on this occasion was probably that I started the felling cut uncomfortably low, and misjudged the height difference between that and the back cut when I got that started. Oh well, it came down in the end.

Yes, but I expect it to lighten gradually as I get more experience. Already the bucksplit method has done so.
