The 60's, 70's and 80's are what I personally call the Golden Age of Recorded Music.
the seventies and the early nineties were my favorite eras for rock
The 70’s rocked 👍🏻👍🏻
my fave modern rock band is MGMT. they are 100% psychedelic rock, with 4 great albums so far. their psychedelic masterpiece is Siberian Breaks. my favorite era is the 70s, and MGMT wants to be like the 70s of today they say lol
It's hard to deny that the 70s were halcyon years for rock
You don't ever have to justify your reactions to me. I just enjoy watching you and anyone else, especially young people who weren't there, come to appreciate the music we grew up with and loved.
There is no color to music. If it moves you it moves you.
I love rock. The 70's, 80's and 90's até the best in rock n roll. Sweet child o mine is my fav. Memories!!! ❤️
1975 - Queen 2005 - Weezer ❤️❤️
that one from 2012, "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" its a great song, you should react it, it has that old school psychedelic vibe

Dude yes
Never heard of 8 of the last bands.
I had low expectations for such a tiny sample, but it actually seemed to work for me.
was happy to see Fleetwood Mac The Chain from 1977 make the list. If you don’t know it, check it out ✌️
For me, the mid to late 60's and then the 70's were the most creative years for rock music. All the musicians and vocalists had distinctive sounds. Now, I feel that you can't distinguish one from the other. They sound like clones of one another. There's a lack of melody that the older bands had. It's just all riffing and screaming till their heads explode, lol. But that's just my opinion. The newest band that did catch my attention in this list though, was the same as you Pope, ie. Tame Impala. I'll check them out and see what happens!. Peace.
I have a pretty shallow understanding of rock music myself, but based on what I heard, all the heavyweights were in the 70’s, then soft rock ballady types trended in the 80’s, started to pick up again in the 90’s, then I don’t know much about 2000s rock music 😂 haven’t kept up. All my favorite bands are in the 90’s as I grew up in that era, but I can certainly understand why most people argue it is the 70’s when rock was at its peak.
Man your cool. I love you. I love rap too. Tech 9, Fat Tone, Beastie Boys, Outkast ect. I'm from KC btw
1969, Ten Years After "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock; 1970, Child In time by Deep purple from "Deep Purple In Rock", 1971, July Morning from Uriah Heep's "Look At Yourself" album, 1972, Smoke On The Water from DeepPurple's "Machine Head" album, 1973, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from Black Sabbath's album of the same name, 1974, Run Of The Mill from Judas Priest's "Rocka Rolla" album, 1975, In My Time Of Dying from Led Zeppelin's "Physical Gaffiti" album, 1976, 2112 from Rush's "2112" album, 1977, Dissident Agressor; from Judas Priest's "Sin After Sin" album, 1978, Roll With The Changes from REO Speedwagon's "You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna fish" album, 1979, Overkill from Motorhead's "Overkill" album, 1980, I Don't Know from Ozzy's "Blizzard of Ozz" album, 1981, Outlaw from Riot's "Fire Down Under" album, 1982, Hallowed Be Thy Name from Iron Maiden's "The Number Of The Beast" album, 1983; Secret Of Steel from Manowar's "Into Glory Ride" album, 1984, Creeping Death from Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" album. And I'll give you the next fifteen years when I'm sober again.
I knew them all from 1954 to around 1990, then you lost me.
These songs are clearly not the biggest hits of their respective years. Somebody just picked a song from that year that they decided that they liked!
Agree with John Andrews. Fav band of all time: Queen and CSNY. Love the protest songs like Ohio, Chicago, Fortunate Son, The Fish Cheer. Loved Joplin
Hey Hey erebody
If I did a compilation of a song a year for 70 years, it would be a much different selection to represent the time passed.
It hasn't been good since the early 2000's, and that was still sub par to the classic shit.
It was good up to about 2003 !

They missed out ratm
Am I the only one that saw how they put a whole different group for shinedown 😭
Lots of obscure psychedelia on my channel. 67 to 73 USA CANADA EUROPE.
Third Eye Blind over Radiohead's OK Computer ? OY. After the 90's, there's a couple of bands i enjoy, some very good songs, but overall it brings nothing new to the table. So i won't say rock is dead, but it does feel like it ain't interested in trying anything new.
They should have included YES in that group somewhere, the greatest band in the history of rock and roll, even if they were Prog Rock. Maybe 'Roundabout' or 'Heart of the Sunrise'.
Ouuuh so many good songs here ! I'm 57 years old and I don't agree with those who say "that was better before". There was good music, and there is still good music. We just have greater choice (and there is a lot of "bad" music, lol)... Thank you ! 🥰
I just realized I know nothing about any songs or bands over the last 12 years.
Did I see a double take at 6:47 ? lol Looking through your vids I don't see any System of a Down yet. lol you should stop depriving yourself immediately... (Chop Suey, Toxicity, Aerials, byob, hypnotize). Highly recommend them. Great video, once again!
Foo Fighters are awesome and Deftones
2:52 They can't fool me. Everybody knows that Michael J. Fox, I mean Marty McFly, performed that song 😎😛😃🙂
'58 or '59 should've been Buddy Holly. 1994 should have been Green Day. Clearly this list wanted to work in Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains after Nirvana in '91.
Please do Floyd's studio recording of "Let There Be More Light" and check out the lyrics. To me, psych and especially prog were the artistic pinnacles of rock. Yes, there are great bands doing both today, and more, but the halcyon period was the late 60s through maybe the first 1/2 of the 80s. So many lines converged to make it that way and diverged since & yeah I admit bias. To me, the stuff from the mid-90s onwards sounds more formulaic. Lots of bands went after the same sound. Metal (ish) distorted guitar, aggressive snarly vocals with a simple straight beat. Dynamics on the records flattened to mostly all loud. There was a study... The dynamic range of music from the 60s - 80s tends to be wider... more variety, peaks, and valleys in a song. Before the 60s there was barely good HiFi and most people didn't have access to good sound. After the 90s - just flat LOUD. I hope there is a rebirth of huge numbers of super creative groups like then but I'm not holding my breath.

100% agree on "Let There Be More Light" .
2005/2006 - Artic Monkeys first album was way better than their later album choice here
The quality of songs starts declining in this list by the very late 80s...but still good gems since 1990
The Kinks is a bit psychedelic at times
Not sure where the idea that Rock & Roll is a "white thing" came from. African-American music is basically where Rock originated, Jazz and Blues are the fathers of rock. For some reason though, it seems that black people drifted away from the genre, specially when Rap and Hip Hop became really popular in the 80's-90's.
Just so you know Pope this 65yr old white stud thinks your cool and maybe one day we'll have a beer, a doobie while listening to Yes
Hendrix, Morrison. ACDC. To me, rock today has no message or purpose. Classic rock commented on the environmental movement, race, Vietnam, political corruption, women's rights. The passion is gone.
This was a really horrible list...
