One Piece has NO right to be this GOOD! - One Piece Live Action Review

Hello my fellow content seekers, I am the Culture Crusader, and today I am finally talking about something I've been wanting to review for weeks: Netflix's Live Action adaptation of One Piece.
This show is absolutely incredible, and I cannot praise it highly enough. I absolutely love it.

"Monkey" is Luffy's surname, not his first name. When they say Monkey D. Luffy it's last name first... with another example being Monkey D. Garp.

Luffy isn't a "Hero" btw. He's portrayed "western friendly" for an American audience but it should be noted that Luffy doesn't see himself as a Hero nor is he trying to be one.

The biological fathers in "One Piece" are all jerks. I can give you 5 examples. And then the adoptive fathers are always nice, I can give you 10 examples.

Zoro, actually hates chocolate. But he still ate the food, being stepped on and all, because he recognizes the effort of the girl (in the anime, its better shown)

About the backstory with Bellemere, it was revealed that the only way for Nami and Nojiko to survive without paying money was to escape on a raft since the town would pretty much be patrolled by Arlong's men on a daily basis-- but Arlong foresaw that happening and destroyed all the rafts. Bellemere predicted Arlong would do that because she was a former marine and understood how pirates thought. Nami and Nojiko would've been killed if she hadn't given herself up. Not only that but Bellemere didn't want her girls to live out on sea as fugitives.

Whats crazier about namis back story in the manga is that the villagers knows what shes doing all along and they keep being mean to her so that she would stop working for arlong and stop carrying the burden by herself. But nami keeps doing it and that shows how strong willed she is

Luffy putting his hat on Nami is particularly telling. He is showing her how valuable she is and how much he trusts her by allowing her to control his most valuable treasure. He has at that moment embodied all the goodness and strength that Shanks has shown him. He is no longer the optimistic fool and has become a force of nature in his wrath.

Having just suffered through 8 episodes of Ahsoka, I was completely blown away by how good One Piece is! I was brought to tears a few times, especially Sanji’s goodbye to Zeff, and when Luffy placed his treasured hat on Namiks head, both scenes were powerful! Everything from writing to directing to acting, One piece just exposed how bad the Disney + shows have been !

Fun fact - Last year, One piece became the 2nd best selling comics of all time beating batman and behind Superman. But if you consider comic books written by a single author, One piece is number 1.

It is nice to see how many non-anime/manga viewers the live action show has had. There are lots of reasons not to start the anime/manga when looking at it from the outside, so glad the live action was able to open the door for so many people.

It was revealed by Oda that Zoro also hates chocolate. It makes that scene even better

I love One Piece's theme of Found family and how they reimagine what it means to be a Pirate. The choice of becoming a Pirate in the world of One Piece means that you've essentially shirk off the constraints of society choosing to live outside world law and instead forging your own path and creating your own way of life. And forming a pirate crew means that you've found a group of people willing to share in these values. In other words, you've found friends willing to accept for who you are and who will fight for your way of life. This the concept of "Nakama" that is so pervasive throught One Piece, which translates to roughly to Friend-Comrade-Crewmat, or as the One Piece fans has come to consider it, Someone who is closer than family.

One piece can be as childish as it gets and as dark as it gets. You see stupid jokes all the time but it also covers every dark/complex theme you can think of (some examples, religion, racism, slavery, human trafficking, sex slaves, drugs, human experiments, genocide, corruption, tyranny, canibalism, weapons of mass destruction, etc).

The One Piece author has a clause that allows him to shoot down any change he disapproves of.

She didnt swallow her pride by asking for help, nami was completely going through life alone because she fears losing the people she loves. which is why she pushed everyone away. Nami's big scene in the LA is great not because shes a weak woman finally realizing shes weak and turning to her friends for help.

I should say about Usopp, his spineless and cowardly nature persists for basically the entire series, because while it isn't traditionally honorable, it's not inherently a bad thing. His lies also don't stop either but they change somewhat. An examples is Usopp's introduction in the anime, he tries to warn the village of Kuro's pirates attacking, but they don't believe him. He then decides to fight them himself to protect the village's peace of mind, they believe that this is just another lie, and if Usopp repels the attack before it reaches them, they will continue to believe that and be blissfully unaware. Usopp also heavily strives to live up to his lies and tall tales, it's not who he IS but rather who he WANTS to be and he joins the straw hats in the hopes that he WILL BE a brave warrior, even if he's not there quite yet. His cowardice is also understandable considering he's a normal person surrounded be people way out of his league, Luffy can fight Arlong sure, but I wouldn't want to.

As someone who is a really good cook, someone who cooks a lot and is a complete nerd about it (I am an Engineer), I can say that a tasty chocolate covered rice ball is a kinda hard thing to pull. The way I would make it is to cook the rice with sweetened condensed milk and coconut milk, maybe some shreded coconut, maybe some nutmeg or cinnamon.....making a good tasty sweet rice base that could synergize well with the chocolate.
