Each arc in OP is a play on a different genre, Buggy's and Kuro's arcs are examples of how One Piece generally is. So rather than Kuro/Usopp arc standing out, it actually really fits in, so get ready for more pacing rollercoasters in Season 2 and so on.

yes, and the fact that Kuro dont really kill everyone when he's able, is just like real Cat where they dont really kill their prey asap, instead toying with them (and possibly fail at it later) is also the hidden theme people might miss. Some changes are noticeable for manga fans, but clearly these changes have gone some serious thoughts process.

I agree about Usopp hesitating before declaring his dream. It’s relatable for people who are not sure about their dreams. Usopp is the representation of those who need more courage and dedication but still try their best to keep up with others who already know their goals and started their journey.

Because I've watched the anime and read the manga, I feel like I was able to appreciate it even more because of that fact. Sure they took out a few things and changed others that I really wanted to see, but with their 8 episode limit and their limited budget, I feel like they struck a near perfect balance for staying close to the source material and changing what they needed. Very proud of the team. You can really tell the creator was behind this show

The live action Kuro arc seems to be very divisive. Either people hate it or love it. Personally, I loved it. I love the set and I think the actor for Kuro did a magnificent job. I like the air of mystery and suspense in the building after they were locked in. The fight scene with Zoro was incredible, though Kuro's henchmen were pretty cheesy. With that being said, I absolutely loved the banter between the henchmen. Sure, the planning part was sort of Saturday morning cartoonish with tons of holes, but One Piece is literally a Saturday morning cartoon.

Just to let you know that the Zoro vs Mihawk anime fight you saw was actually from a recap episode for East Blue and was far more rushed than the live action hence the lack of emotion. They also did really good tweaking the story in a way thay works with their time limit while keeping true to the major story beats. The Live action sparked my love for an anime i havent watched since middle school and got me to start it up again. It feels like something that can stand on its own but also serves as a good introduction to the story. Its fun to watch, fun to explore the characters, but also lets you know that theres so much more to the world that you wont know about unless you really dive in.

Another great video Johnny! I haven't seen the live action One Piece yet, but after watching your video I feel much more motivated to do so! I only watched the 4Kids dub early on, so I never really got into One Piece. This show could help attract a more casual fanbase to experience One Piece for the first time, who otherwise wouldn't have. Especially because there are so many episodes of the anime, this live action can serve as a new entry point to beginners. Captain Kuro is my favorite; I find a deadly pirate who faked his own execution and who is now plotting to kill a rich girl in secret, under the pretext of being her butler so intriguing. I'm really happy you included snippets of him in your video, it was actually the first time I saw him in the live action and now I'm more excited to watch the show AFTER your video as opposed to beforehand. Keep up the fantastic work, Capt'n!

because they want to bridge garp's regrets on the marineford to be more sense. and if you watch luffy childhood, garp always angry all the time. but its always shown in comical way that the anime manga fan brush it off easily. and if you Know how Luffy's Dad and "Brothers" end up is. isn't strange that garp is so easy going without explanation? like when he able to made peace with his family situation. and then Marinford happen, suddenly he has regret to not to force his grandkids more? I always see garp at the marineford is so jarring with garp before and after. like the happy go lucky and the seriousness is too far a part. LA Garp is more sense, especially when the marineford happen.

Having a nonchalant laughing 60 year old admiral marine trying to save his grandson from the dangers of the world would come off weird and unrealistic in a realistic live action world. No father would act that way in real life. Both garps are grandfathers that love their son and are dedicated to justice that’s all that matters.

@@pertamanakprimaindra3928 but then why is luffy still a pirate? Marineford Garp nakes sense to me because there he's regreting not being more serious, perhaps not forcing Luffy and Ace to be marines, which makes sense with his bubbly personality, but LA Garp feels like he wouldn't even let it get to that point, you know? Which to me is weirder

1:02 I haven't heard anyone complaining and saying "That's not the same" , or "that's not really what happened". One Piece fans are not idiots. They know the live action was just 8 episodes so obviously it's impossible to expect it to be a one on one copy of the manga or anime.

I wish they kept the original scenes with Sanji and Nanmi leaving their "home". How Zeff and everyone at the restaurant picked on Sanji after the fight so the he would really storm out the door, and with Sanji knowing their intention and crying as he board Luffy's ship, thanking everyone for everything. And how Nanmi steals everyone's purse as she runs through the crowd, showing her sister and everyone at the village that they don't have to worry about her and she can handle herself. Every member of the straw hat pirate had a touching scene when they joined up (well...maybe except Zoro), they should have kept that.

As a long time fan of One Piece, I personally like the live action adaptation. I like that they aren't 100% true to how the story is told on the manga/anime. Not everything works in a live adaptation and they managed to bring forth the essence and spirit of One Piece. I think that having Eiichiro Oda part of the production and casting process, is what makes it work so much better. It's hard to make something so silly, wacky and crazy as One Piece look real and great, but they did much better than I thought they would. Even though the live action characters aren't exactly like they are in the manga/anime, they still have the core values and personality trait of the original characters. They made it work perfectly for a live adaptation. My bf tried to watch One Piece anime, but it neve managed to captivate him. We watched the live action together and he actually likes it. So, I think that the live action will be able to reach an audience that the manga and anime couldn't, as the style is so different, but the essence and spirit of One Piece are present. The changes they made was to make it work as a live action, without compromising the underlying story, essence and spirit of the original work. That's why I like the live action. Oh and the live action actually made me like Sanji, as I don't like manga/anime Sanji. 😆

The close-ups never really bugged me.. it felt very anime-ish to me. I loved the overall camerawork in the show. Now watching the anime after this show and it has insane close ups that linger lol like eyes or one eye closeups for too long but they make me laugh 😂 maybe it changes in later seasons, idk yet. Zoro and Sanji look really cool and I adore them and always thought they would be my favorite characters at first glance and I guess they still are, it's hard to really have a favorite tbh but I still gotta say.. my favorite is Luffy. Which is very shocking to me, knowing me.. haha even still as I watch the anime tho I'm only 20 episodes in. Idk what it is.. he's endearing. Especially Iñaki... which I'm seeing more and more how much he fits the role.

As a longtime manga and anime One Piece fan, I was thrilled with the adaptation. While events aren’t 1:1, they aren’t supposed to be. It’s called an adaptation for a reason. They successfully put their own spin on the story while still being very faithful to the source material’s themes, tone, messages, and character direction. They did a fantastic job with casting, acting, and set design. As strange as it is to say, the most important character in the world of One Piece is the world itself. One Piece is a world building show. It’s the best there is at world building, and the adaptation did the world of One Piece such Justice. I was so happy with the set design. It stole the show for me.

The Live Action was an abbreviated version of the East Blue saga (most of it ) so far. Now an abbreviated version well told of a great story is still a great story. And nobody is saying you are not allowed to enjoy just the live action But you did get a speedrun version of the story. And some corners they cut off make a lot of sense and others cut off more important parts. For example Usopp and Sanji are much more just side characters in the live action. And if I asked you why they should be Strawhats you would not have an answer because the live action didn't really show why they belong.

  • @jacobwatson5484

The live action wasnt perfect but they did a great job adapting one of the hardest stories imaginable to adapt into live action. You can tell people making it have true appreciation for the source material and that is vital into making a successful adaptation. Too often these days adaptations or remakes are made by those who don't care for or have out right disdain for the source material. Its hugely refreshing to have a series made by those who love One Piece as much as the fans.
