A even more lazy way is to just throw a can of cream of mushroom soup and add some milk and maybe some flour and then add the cooked chicken to infuse the flavor of the mushrooms into the chicken or bake the chicken with the soup in a baking pan in the oven.

Oh, so tasty..since everyone's personalising this dish to their own requirements, with respect allow me to do so...lol Once Chickens cooked in Garlic Oil with plenty of black Pepper, shred it with a grater.. Set shredded Chicken aside a moment, fry lots of red or white sliced Onions in same Chicken infused Oil...add some Salt once Onions turning golden yellow / brown..add lots of Mushrooms to the almost cooked Onions..fry lightly & add double cream - cooking cream - enough for ample sauce. Do not boil, only light simmer, once steady simmer is reached add pre-cooked, shredded Chicken back into pan & cook together until sauce thickens... serve on a hot plate, all done around 20mins approx. Portions = number of people?? Tbc. Enjoy.

I'm sure this is tasty, but instead of building a mushroom sauce from scratch, try using a can of mushroom soup with the same can filled with half and half cream. You can add fresh chopped mushrooms to this as well. Now add your browned chicken pieces, my wife will use just breasts and thighs, but you can use a whole chopped chicken if you like. Be sure to brown and cook all pieces. Cook the chicken on a Low simmer for at least 1-1-1/2 hours stirring occasionally. At one hour she'll add dumplings to cook on top as well. Once the dumplings have cooked and fluffed up on top, the dish is ready to serve. This is the best creamed chicken you'll ever eat!

any healthier substitute for heavy cream please??

+No One you could use flour to thicken with a knob of butter - 3 tbs and just add the stock. Add cheese over the top only if you want.
