Let me add to that. 37 years old, never married, no girlfriend, no kids and I work at Walmart for a living. Got two sisters, a younger one with a ten year old and owns her own dog grooming business, and an older sister with three boys, the oldest one 14 years old, and she works from home. doing insurance for the hospital. Compared to all that I'm just running in place.

Denzel, you are the man! You set a good example for others to follow! I use to watch a lot of Hollywood movies, until God opened up my eyes from a life of denial. I can see very far! Some of these entertainers people idolize are not good people in real life. But Denzel, you have always been one of my favorite people in life. You could be poor and a nobody, from hearing you speak wisdom. You could be in the gutter and you still would be a great human-being. I am a 67 year old white man of faith, and some of my favorite people are black. May many blessings fall upon the Denzel Washington family.

Great speech!!!! This is ANOTHER reason why i know i am VEEEERY different than most!!!! All of my life, i have heard, “Bryon, you are very different,” “You are not like most i have ever encountered,” “You’re too analytical,” and my FAVORITE, “You think outside the box a lot.” Denzel talking about Reggie Jackson striking out the most in Major League Baseball history, but people mainly remember his triumphant home runs!!!! There, like myself, UNLIKE MOST people in everyday life, on jobs when i was a Supervisor, i cared most about my workers achievements, NOT what they can do now!!!! At 51-years-old, i ALWAYS hear people talking about what someone can do now and just forgetting all about their many prior achievements 🤦🏾‍♂️!!!! During my law classes, two professors would tell me of the years they’ve been in law, things i brought forth (outside the box), it never dawned on them!!!!

This is going to help me achieve my goals, in life.

If Denzel Washington is not at the tippy top.if the list of people you admire, you need to rethink your list and your life. I use his examples (and yes, I give him.the credit for his words) whenever possible speaking to my children and their friends and they ALWAYS pay attention, learn and benefit from his thoughts. I'd give both arms just to shake the man's hand and my eyes just to look him in his and say "THANK YOU FOR CARING AND PASSING ON YOUR BLESSINGS"

Here is a truly wise man and an honest man . He is a '' movie star '' but that is not what he strives for because he has a goal to reach before he leaves this earth . He wishes to be remembered as a man who truly loved and was loved by those fellow human beings that shared the same small space he once occupied on earth . He doesn't want the ghosts of unfulfilled hopes , ideas and dreams following him into the grave with him . The only marker of the time he walked the earth , he would desire , is to have loved and been loved . I heard him say this in a few interviews and then always adds , '' and i'm still working on that and will continue until I no longer continue . I have the utmost respect for Mr. Denzel Washington and not just for his talent . I respect him because he does what he's telling these graduates to do . In his many successes he has ''reached back '' and pulled others up beside him and prayed for them to surpass him if that is a dream of theirs .

I really wish we could get past the past. As long as we keep looking back, we will NEVER see what is in front of us! Nobody is going to give us anything. We are not owed nothing. OK, so our people were lynched, raped, displaced. Let us unite together, build our own...... TOGETHER!!!!! Let us lock arms together, hold, build one another up, people!
