    Mary Shelley travelled along the river Rhine in Germany in 1815 which was only a few miles away from Frankenstein Castle, where, two centuries before, an alchemist had engaged in experiments. She then journeyed to the region of Geneva, Switzerland, where much of the story takes place. Galvanism and occult ideas were topics of conversation for her companions. Then in 1816, Mary, her husband Percy, and Lord Byron had a competition to see who wrote the best horror story. Shelley was inspired to write Frankenstein after imagining a scientist who created life and was horrified by what he had made.

    @epicchess2021 Yep! Some people tell the story that way and reference her having this dream before visiting Europe in 1815. Others say her dream happened when she spent days thinking of what to write for the contest. I can't find a great source but I like the tale!

    the movie Gothic with Julian Sands (P. Shelley) and Gabriel Byrne (Lord Byrion) from 1986 portrays a compilation of ideas surrounding what could have happened with Mary. On that night in Byrons self-exiled estate at Lake Geneva these minds, all heavily drug induced through Absinth, conjure up a night(mare) to remember. Very surreal stuff, watch an 18th century mansion come to life.

    2:29 That pawn move is intended to lock the entire queenside out of the game(in combination with thr bishops), and completely clamps down on the c4 outpost for the knight. Also blocks the queen activation. Interesting move, even if no one is finding that without cheating or at least engine prep

    Fascinating how the holy spirit suddenly connects with Niemann. In fact, you can follow the holy spirit leaving Giri and entering Niemann. Not a great investment, that extra minute that Niemann spent in the tank, but the outcome is a 3 second window out of which all of his moves come oozing. Even if Giri is Dutch, I love it when Niemann wins.

    1:05 "Take toward center...especially when forced to!" 🤔🤭 So poignant. Also, every best-practice in chess has an exception. The exception being...forced moves! 🤗 Finally, everything in moderation. Except moderation itself. 👍 Shelley's Frankenstein can be traced to our serious efforts to understand electricity in the latter half of the 18th century. Once Ben Franklin developed his insights, he hustled over to Europe to discuss the details with other intellectuals. A few years later, Italian Luigi Galvani made a dead frog "come back to life" by shocking its leg muscles (1780) . And, understandably, peeps freaked tf out. Frankenstein is considered the beginning of science fiction as a separate genre.

  • @abstuli1490

    @abstuli1490

    Ай бұрын

    It's easy to cheat when you play online without any supervision. Fabiano Caruana assumed that over half of all Titled Tuesday players cheat occasionally. That means they use the chess engine during the match to look at the position and use the chess engine two to three times during a match to find the best critical move they considered. This is enough for a good player to play at a much higher level than without help from the chess engine. I might also mention that Hans has been caught cheating four times in previous Titled Tuesdays by using the chess engine so much that it detected the cheating. This will not happen again because all good players now know how to cheat without getting caught.
