One of the most beautiful cities in France: Dole
Bonjour!
In this video I am taking you to a city that isn't as well known as some others in our region but we were so pleasantly surprised by its beauty! I am taking you along with me as my family and I visit Dole, in the French Jura. I am also sharing an exciting update about my upcoming cookbook!
Hope you enjoy this one, see you next week!

What a lovely city. France's countryside continues to amaze me...stunning architecture, ruins..well-preserved for history, gardens, grass, flowers..all essentials for nature's beauty...and, thanks, Dole, for one M. Louis Pasteur. Waiting anxiously for your book!

Wow!!!! I’m not even halfway through the video & this underground spring has got me obsessed! I get my own spring water regularly & I’ve always been obsessed with France’s springs, but this is by far the most beautiful one I’ve seen! I wouldn’t even be able to leave! 🥰😍

If you go again, in better weather (and earlier in the year when more flowers are blooming), I can heartily recommend wandering along the canals that head out of town. The old path where the animals towing the barges used to walk is public access (or was 30 years ago), and the glimpses into the lovely gardens of country homes is charming, plus fields with beautiful horses, etc. And the occasional locks provide bridges, so that you can walk back to town on the other side. We didn’t use a self guided tour (it might not have existed then), but the old town is small enough and self-contained enough to allow you to wander without a map, just taking in what you find, and easily orient yourself to find your way back when it’s time to go. We took the train, and the timing of the morning and afternoon train (again, it may have changed now) gave us the perfect amount of time to explore. Enough to see quite a lot, but wishing we had more time (without feeling rushed); not wondering how to kill time until our return trip. We were there on a weekday, and could peer into artisan shops to see stone carvers, etc. in the act of creation. And it seemed that every window and bridge or canal railing had flower boxes bursting with color, softening even further the old stone buildings. 30 years later, I and the friend I traveled with on that vacation still say it was most memorable and beautiful day of our trip - simply magical.

Oh, what a beautiful place. Dole seemed so quiet and peaceful on an autumn day when everything was closed, but I can imagine how busy it can be. Everything is so neat and well kept. I’ll be watching for your book.

Another great vlog! Thank you for the shot of the yellow leaf on the rain soaked pavement. It unlocked an old memory/feeling (I'm sure there's a word for it) of my time in Bordeaux. Looking forward to the book!

These small towns that dot the countryside in France are All so Beautiful and well preserved. Wasn’t there fighting in these areas during WWII? Were many rebuilt? The pictures from that time showed such destruction that I’m amazed how well taken care of they all are❤

Dole is located in East of France near the Swiss border. This was not an area of fighting during WW2

That was a beautiful village that you went to see. I enjoyed watching it. Congratulations on your cookbook. I love the way you narrate your videos. Your voice is so pleasing. I do have a curious questions. Does your husband speak French to and has your children adapted well to the French culture and language. Thanks

Thanks! Happy to hear you liked the video! Our boys have adapted really well to the French culture and were fluent in French in only a couple of months! Olav learned to speak French while living here and is doing really well! He’s more fluent when the conversation is about building and renovating 😂

Why were all the shops closed on a Monday?
@FrenchCountryLife
9 ай бұрын
That is often the case in France’s smaller cities. Same in Beaune! I like that, it is part of the French culture to rest. On Sunday’s here in the countryside everything is closed. People have a life and don’t prioritize work or being able to make extra money. Even in the busy month of August many restaurant and shop owners I know tsja two weeks or more off to enjoy summer holidays. I feel it’s a good antidote to the hustle 24/7 culture!
Significant, yet another round of important refund information
