Besançon - What to Know Before you Go

Deep in France is this absolute gem of a place. River on three sides with a magnificent citadel on the fourth. This video is designed to show you around and give you an idea of what to expect.

I've just come back from Besançon, it is a lovely place and your video was a very helpful guide. We found ourselves walking in your footsteps at times! The Resistance Museum reopened on (appropriately Besançon liberation day) 8 September and is excellent. Also, very useful to know that for €1.40 you can go on all local public transport for an hour, just tap in as you get on the bus or tram.

Hey great video ! For you knowkledge, the stone which house of the inner town made of, was quarried directly on the Citadel place. And the Citadel was made with the same stone. The place where the Citadel is, used to be the top of the moutain. The inner Citdel ground floor is the limit where the stone was mined.

You certainly find some off the tourist trail spots! Hotel de ville in France means town hall so the VIC must be in former town (or city) hall. How many km did you walk in one day!

1:36 why would it be in English ? It's not a touristic place, and it's Franche-comté, people are not that familiar with English, the imperialism I swear lol. There's not much tourist from "outside"... most of the time is cultural tourism from people around France and mostly Franche-Comté itself, also Museum is not just about archeology but also painting and more... you'll find some english and german in Zoo and Museum tho. But nice to see your curiosity is not just Paris or big cities in France. To answer the question about the zoo, here some insight from the official website : "the Parc zoologique of besançon is involved in 53 conservation programs to date, including 6 reintroduction projects. Nearly 90% of the species presented here are bred as part of European and international breeding programs." It's also a good way for people to study or have references (art) close to them, I guess too.

@technite5360 If you listen to what I am saying at that point in the video, you will realise that I am simply explaining that, unlike Paris, many signs in this town are not translated. I am merely making a statement for the benefit of those overseas who may wish to visit one day. This is nothing to do with imperialism.

@@shellebelle53 yes it was a rude and quite bizarre. His attitude seems to be that a person must learn the language of a country before they visit it. He clearly doesn't do much travelling - if he did he would know what the real world is like. Anyway, glad yo enjoyed this one. Was wonderful to see a town so few Australians even know exists.
